El paseo y el paisaje es bonito, pero el interés de esta zona es más histórico que paisajístico. Lugar de acontecimientos históricos como la formación del primer parlamento del país o la declaración de la independencia. Si no tienes mucho tiempo, para mi gusto es una visita prescindible

Where the World's first Parliament sat

Icelanders are immensely proud of their history and the fact that the oldest Parliament in the World met at Thingvellir. Here the clan chieftains sat at a place where the echoes from the cliff edge produced perfect acoustics, meaning that the Law Speaker could address the assembly and recite the laws every year that all had agreed to live by.
Our Icelandic guide gave us a demonstration of the power of this place as he stood on a rock and spoke the first words ever used in Old Icelandic to open the first Parliament. Very moving.

Over rated. Historical interest, but not a huge amount to see or do

A few information boards in Icelandic and English which describe the history of the location from the earliest days of settlement in Iceland. No great evidence of that other than the information boards.

Winter paths not maintained. Extremely slippery due to number of feet polishing them. Be very, very careful.
