Iceland is an amazing country with countless natural wonders, including Silfra which is a crack between the tectonic plates that separates North America from Eurasia. It is located in Thingvellir National Park. This geographical wonder is an attraction for divers and snorkelers, but I do not dive, even so it is possible to get close to observe. The dives are safe and made with professionals. Access to the park is free, but parking is paid.

This was pretty much on the top of my list of things I wanted to do while visiting Iceland. And it did not disappoint!
We chose to do a day trip out of Reykjavík, but you could go on your own if you have a car rental. We did the day trip with Arctic Adventures that combined Silfra snorkeling with the Colden Circle tour.
Ricardo was our snorkeling guide, and he was amazing!
It was quite exhilarating to feel the cold water (I think it was 2C or 3C), even with the wetsuit.
They take lots of pictures for you under water, so you do not need to bring your own underwater camera. All the photos are posted on a weblink afterwards.
The water is so incredibly clear, and I was not expecting the vibrant colors of green and orange algae, in contrast to the blue water.

Another unique feature in Iceland due to meeting (separating) of American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Here, at Silfra you can dive between them.
Have in mind you can do that only with a tour operator.

Pay parking in a gigantic parking lot. Find the information area and they will direct you to this place located beside the lake. The actual walk into the gorge is free and you are right up close. As well, there are a number of hiking trails you can take in many directions. How often can you be in a tectonic plate? Washrooms and lots of other interesting things to do here. Definitely recommend.

You could snorkel between the europe and America tectonic plates. Its the only place in the world where you could do something like that. You should arrange your your with some licensed operators here. They give you proper instructions and training and the required gear to do this adventure.

Vi snorkede i Silfra imellem i to graders gletchervand imellem de to kontinentplader. Området er vanvittig flot og bestemt ikke minde interesant når man også ser det under vandoverfladen i det klareste vand.

Snorkeling en combinaison étanche réalisé fin octobre entre amis.
L'expérience en elle même est à faire car c'est un endroit unique au monde et les tons de bleu sont vraiment beaux.
Franche partie de rigolade au moment de l'équipement : c'est difficile ça serre beaucoup au niveau du cou notamment , ce qui peut poser problème à certaines personnes.
L'eau est froide mais c'est très supportable ( si votre combinaison ne prend pas l'eau...)
Je ne regrette pas de l'avoir fait mais je ne le referai pas : c'est très cher (trop cher) et c'est trop rapide.
Je trouve le rapport qualité prix mauvais.
Le parc national et les alentours sont superbes, faites attention aux contrôles de police.

Schnorcheln in der Sifraspalte war eine interessante Erfahrung. Es gab zwar nicht übermäßig viel zu sehen, aber schon zu wissen wo man da schnorchelt, hat etwas. Das Wasser ist glasklar, so daß man bis auf den Grund sehen kann, aber schon etwas kühl (ca 3 Grad)
