Very small museum, aimed at German speakers (most placards are in German). Some natural history items (shells, birds). Some artifacts from Namibian people groups (San ostrich egg canteens).
Actual history is rather thin, limited to very faded photographs. There is nothing at all about Shark Island or the concentration camp there, which is definitely an oversight, whether intentionally sanitizing or not.

There are a lot of items in the museum. It could be improved by taking away the less interesting items and to focus on those who are more interesting and present these on more modern way. Anyway if you are in Luderlitz and interested in it history,nature, culture and mining visiting the musuem is highly recommended.

Oh dear, this place hasnt been updated in about 40 years! The lady manning the desk was smoking and the whole place is tired and dull. Worth popping in but you dont need more than 10 minutes!

Dieses Museum liegt im Mitten des Herzens Lüderitz. Es ist sehr klein und in einer Stunde gut zu durchgehen. Eintritt ist günstig.

The museum was very near to the lodging, and my kids and I decided to go to the museum. I paid N$15, and entrance fee seemed free for kids. I thought it was a small place to be named the museum at first, but afterward, I changed my mind first impression of this place, and we had an amazing staff who was very efficient and willing to share his informative information with us. My kids learned a lot by his explanation, and even I was following him to get more information out of his knowledge. Even though it was small, it was well organized as its historical stages. I was glad that we went there with my kids.

If you consider a town that is fallen oon hard times with 56% unemployment. Industries that are on the decline, if found the pictorial part of the Museum fascinating. Pictures going back to the 1800 showing the whaling, fishing and diamond mining were the best part of the Museum.

A very interesting little museum in the wonderful town of Lüderitz. A lot of history and the owner seems to be a great guide and story teller as well as I just joined in when he was taking a small group of local children around. I enjoyed this visit a lot.
