A bag cost like 250$!!! Beautifull but not worth at all! I am living here for two months, a piece of leather cost you like 25000 tsh, a fundi cost you another 25000 tsh to make it, in total a 25$. It seems like somebody wants to earn a lot of money on the heads of the locals.

Hard to find, outside city center, but worth the search. Small handicraft center with shop selling leather purses from small to medium size. Women center.

On an unassuming street just outside the bustle of Moshi, there is the most amazing African design business. In a single storey town house local women produce iconic designer hand bags and accessories which epitomise 'ethnic cool'. These are designed in-house by a young American designer using traditional African fabrics, leather and brassware. The bags make perfect lifetime gifts and great mementoes . They sell for justifiably high prices in the US and elsewhere, but if you stop by the workshop in Moshi you can pick one up at a bargain local price. When I was there the small showroom was bursting with beautiful bags large and small. The variety of fabrics and colours was amazing, but every item is undeniably Kauli. If you like fashion and like to be different , make sure you make a visit if you're in Moshi.

The Kauli shop not only sells beautiful and well designed bags, but it is also beautiful in itself, filled with amazing people. It is a great social enterprise that empowers women by giving them skills and market. I haven't had the chance to buy a bag yet... there is so much choice and if I could I would buy them all... My dream is to buy one very soon. Great place to stop with a very nice garden where you can sit and relax.

I absolutely loved the Kauli shop. They make beautiful bags from traditional African fabrics and leather. Locally made by Tanzanian women who are paid fair wages. The styles and colors are gorgeous. You can go home with a work of art hand bag for less than the cost of a mass produced generic designer bag made in China. I own 2 Kauli bags and everywhere I go people stop me and ask about them.
