Toraja in south Sulawesi is an incredible are to visit in indonesia,its customs is really unique which is rarely seen elsewhere such as: the funeral ceremony,a ma'nene ritual,their traditional graves with statues on the rockcliff,the traditional livestock market and also Toraja has beautiful nature with friendly people.

We spent 2 days together with mr. Usman who guided us on a tour to discover the Toraja culture. He accompanied us a funeral ceremony, and to visit the main and less touristic places of worship of the cona. He is a very attentive person as he provided us with sarongs for the ceremony and knowing many local people we took part in the ceremony together with family members.
He speaks excellent Italian is very nice and prepared.We were lucky to have him as a guide!

Toraja in sulawesi indonesia is a wonderful area to visit for the cultural tours and trekking trip because they have an amazing and unique culture with stunning views and villages.
We did 3 days cultural tours by using a car with a really great and reliable guide Mr.Arru and exploring toraja countryside by trekking trip 2 days and stayed in the traditional house with the family and locals.we defenitely enjoyed both the trips in this region.
Highly recommend to visit Toraja.

5 sublime days in Toraja country, supervised by Martino, our French-speaking Toraja guide, commissioned by the Archipel 360 agency. A gem that made us discover his country, its culture up close with the inhabitants. Magnificent Pats where tradition prevails over everything.

Pak Ucok is my driver and also guide in Toraja. He is super caring guide and has a lot of story to tell. You could contact Rosalina Homestay in Rantepao Toraja to reach him. Better to bring rupiah from Makassar, less option for money changer in Toraja

Nous partons 3 semaines à Bali et souhaitions passer 1-2 jours à Tana Toraja surtout pour voir les rites funéraires.
Nous partirions de Bali et irons jusqu'à Makassar aller retour juste pour cet endroit.
Est ce que vous pourriez nous confirmer que cela vaut le détour ? est on sur de voir la culture locale et les rites (ou attrape touristes?)

We go this summer 3 weeks in Bali and plan to spend 1-2 days in Tana Toraja especially to discover the funeral ceremonies.
We would leave from Bali and go to Makassar go and back just to see that place.
Could you confirm that the trip desserves it just to sthat place ?
are we sure to see some ceremonies and be inspired by culture or its just a fake stuffs for tourists ?

Franchement il y a beaucoup de belles choses a voir a Bali et je ne comprend Pas comment on a envie d'aller Voir un enterrement. Mon épouse est Balinese et meme si Les cremations semblent festives, ayant vecu ca, je peux vous assurer qu'un deces dans la famille est loin d'etre festif.

Drove from the capital to Toraja - took around 6-7 hours. Fly in is maybe possible now, but was not an option 1 yr ago. The air strip is present but as far as understood not actively used.

Plenty of guides arround and you will have no issues to organise when over there. So no need to di this upfront yr arrival. You will be able to compare when at location, which is good for your wallet anyway. Enjoy Toraga, like we did 👍

We plan to arrive in Makassar from Flores in the afternoon of May 15, 2017. Do you recommend going to the bus terminal to take the evening bus or staying overnight in Makassar and taking the morning bus? We plan to stay 3 full days, is that sufficient time? Will we get to see a funeral procession in May? Also I've read that some hotels were noisy, do people recommend a homestay or hotel in rantepao? My husband and I both like good beds, not too hard or soft so wondering if homestay beds would work.Want to return to Makassar on Friday, has anyone taken the plane, if so, are they safe? Any names of guides in the area are welcomed too.

I would head to Rantepao right away, not stay in Makassar. 3 days are OK, we stayed 4 full days and it was just the right amount.
for a private guide, send me a PM.
The accommodation in Rantepao is sketchy, we stayed at Rosalinas, it was noisy, but good beds and the owner is a former guide, so he was able to advise us on many sights etc.
