This was, for me, an experience of a lifetime. I was a bit apprehensive at first- I do love an adventure but going up in a balloon?! What if I fell out?!
I was reassured that the balloons are made by a quality balloon maker in the UK and then shipped out.
Now I can't wait to do my next ride, and it's going to be in Myanmar AGAIN with this same company- maybe at Inle or even Bagan again.
Everything was so perfectly organised, from the pre-departure details, to the bus ride, the coffee set-up and safety briefing, to the landing with champagne at the end! Every single detail was so well-thought out and PERFECT.
The balloon pilot, Gavin, gave the most clear and thorough briefing- you can tell he's done this hundreds of times and absolutely LOVES what he does.
There were many staff to help (I mean, you need a lot to set this up) and everyone knew exactly what to do. Half the excitement was watching them "blow the balloon up." All of us were instantly excited and we all took about a million photos and videos.
Gavin told us exactly what would happen, and very clearly (I used to teach tourists to scuba dive so I understand what it means to be clear and ready for anything).
Going up was a lot smoother that I imagined- I thought I would freak out but it just felt so natural and easy.
Seeing all the temples below was magical- on the way down we could even see the monks walking around the temples it was so amazing.
When we landed, the wind just happened to be perfect for us to land on the river bank (I think maybe this is normally not possible). Gavin was communicating to the people on the ground so that when we landed, EVERYTHING was ready for us, even champagne and fruit!!! It was a perfect end to a perfect experience.

Awful experience. The pilot is condescending. The flying process is scary. It flies so high that can't see the temples clearly or take nice pictures. You can take much better pictures in the hills close to the temples. It contains 17 people, super crowed and uncomfortable. The landing is dangerous. The staff is unprofessional. Please avoid this operator and take STT or Oriental Balloons instead.

Es war perfekt organisiert - von der Abholung am Hotel mit Nostalgie-Bus über die Einweisung bei Kaffee und Plätzchen, Flug, sanfte Landung, Sektfrühstück und Rückehr. Vor allem aber war der Flug (ungefähr von Norden nach Süden) traumhaft schön, der Sonnenaufgang, die Morgennebel (oder war es Rauch von kleinen Feuern?) die zig Pagoden im frühmorgendlichen Sonnenlicht, die winkenden Kinder in einem Dorf, das wir überflogen. Auch die Mitreisenden (ich war der einzige ausländische Passagier) waren höflich, freundlich und lärmten nicht, so daß sich auch die Stille genießen ließ. Ein unvergeßliches Erlebnis.

The Pilots, how wonderful and friendly they were as well as hillarious making us all feel relaxed before we boarded. The whole experience after that was pure magic.

I found myself in beautiful Bagan, Myanmar over the Christmas holidays, and because I am a solo traveller, I had organized to participate in a hot air balloon ride with Balloons over Bagan on Christmas morning! The trip didn't disappoint, and sure made for a terrific Christmas Day!
I booked the Classic balloon ride trip (which had been discounted to $200 USD on booking), which included: hotel pick-up and drop-off service, pre-departure tea, coffee and cookies, free in flight photos, a champagne breakfast on landing, with fresh fruits and pastries, and a certificate of flight.
First off, this company is highly professional and a real pleasure to communicate with. Throughout the booking process, office staff were attentive and highly responsive to emails and inquiries. Helping also to resolve international payment issues, and facilitate payment with a Canadian-based Visa. Pre-departure, office staff were exceptional at coordinating hotel pick-up times, and arranged the registration process directly with my hotel. This was appreciated, since I was out exploring the beautiful temples much of the day, and didn't want to bother with administrative procedures.
The balloon flight was nothing short of spectacular! Because it was Christmas morning, the pilots and crew were in full Christmas spirit, which put a big smile on my face! I was picked up from my hotel at the exact time I was communicated. We proceeded to pick up the remaining passengers, and we were on our way. Balloons depart/launch from the Bagan Golf Club a short 20 minute drive away. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the pilot and ground crew and were directed to our respective balloons. We were given souvenir red "BB" ball caps to wear and take home! We enjoyed coffee/tea and little butter cookies while they filled the balloon with cold air. The pilot introduced himself, and gave a very detailed safety and landing briefing, preparing us for what to expect. We also practiced the landing position. The pilot was extremely professional and instilled the utmost confidence in guests. I felt in good hands - the pilot and ground crew were first and foremost concerned with the safe passage of guests, and this was demonstrated throughout.
Once the balloon was full of air, they proceeded to heat the air. We were allowed to watch and take pictures of the process which was highly interesting! Once the balloon stops vertical, we were instructed to board one-by-one, and we were shortly in air!
The views from the hot air balloon were just incredible! Seeing the vast, misty landscape from above, spotted with heritage temples was truly a sight! About mid flight, we witnessed the sunrise, and it was breathtaking - it brought glow over Bagan. The pilot made sure to point out major temples and other points of interest, such as Mt. Poppa! The flight experience lasted well over an hour, and it was indeed the highlight of my trip in Bagan!
The pilot landed smoothly in a grass field, and once safe, we were permitted to disembark. We watched the process of deflating the balloon and packaging it away into a tight (and heavy!) bundle, which was fascinating to watch!
We enjoyed post-flight champagne, with fresh fruits and banana bread for breakfast, while they handed out certificates of flight to guests! The champagne breakfast was a really nice touch, and made my Christmas morning! A short while later, I was dropped off at my hotel, to enjoy the rest of my day!
The pilot and ground crew were exceptionally professional, friendly and clearly loved what they did! This was demonstrated in all guest interactions! The office staff, pilots and all of the ground crew were a real pleasure to interact with and worked as a team to provide a seamless experience for guests!
Highly recommend Balloons over Bagan! They were the first company to start offering balloon rides in Myanmar, and as they get ready to celebrate their 20th anniversary, they are still one of the best operators to choose from! Thank you very much for such a wonderful Christmas morning hot air balloon ride, I really enjoyed my experience!

Fue una perfecta decisión de volar en globo en Bagan, las vistas fueron maravillas e inolvidables.
El profesionalismo de la empresa fue espectacular. Nos vinieron a recoger en un autobús vintage, posteriormente tomamos un pequeño desayuno y empezamos esta maravillosa aventura para finalizar con una copa de champagne con delicioso fruta, croissant y otros.
Andy fue nuestro guía y cuidó cada detalle para que nuestro vuelo fuera perfecto, además destaco el profesionalismo y ayuda de todo el equipo restante que cuidaron cada detalle para que este día fuera inolvidable para nosotros.

Balloons Over Bagan was the highlight of our trip to Myanmar. We had never been in a hot air balloon given the price. It is one of those things you must do while in Bagan. The pilot was from Europe and has flown all over the world. He was professional and rotated the balloon slowly through the flight so everyone got a view. The flight was extremely smooth and was almost like you where watching a movie screen below you. Our basket consisted of four compartments each with four people. It was slightly crowded and not practical to changes places in your compartment during flight. Our balloon was largely filled by a photography tour group. Baggage on the flight was limited to a small bag, in which I carried a camera and a couple camera lenses. I checked the bag size a day ahead of time with their office in town and it was at the size limit. Given the limited space in the basket it was difficult to change lens and it would not be practical to change lens more than a couple times during the flight. Next time, I would book the premium experience, which has two people in each compartment and only costs $100 more. Four people in each compartment slightly limited the enjoyment and how many pictures you could take. Overall, I would recommend Balloons Over Bagan even given the price of the balloon ride.

1 year old baby allowed in hot air balloon ?
Hi - the age limit to fly in a balloon in Myanmar is 8 years old, for safety and insurance reasons. The general rule is as well that the child has to be able to see over the edge of the basket.

For safety reasons there are age and height restrictions. We set a minimum age of 8 years old, but as a general rule, all passengers must be able to see over the basket.
Our rates are per person as the restrictions on how many persons can fly in a basket is limited. Therefore a child takes one space in the balloon. Rates are per person, so for adults and children the same.

Is it possible for a 4-year-old girl to experience an air-balloon trip in Bagan?
Hi, the minimum age to fly in a balloon in Bagan is for safety and insurance reasons the age of 8 years. Unfortunately younger children are not possible to fly.
