We opted for a trip to Cowtown and walked back along the East shore of the lake. It was a bit of a crap day and we were (unsurprisingly) the only three passengers on the boat, but it went anyway and we were told it would have gone even if there was nobody! The crew were very helpful and informative and the boat itself was charming even if the weather was not great. THere is an electric car charging point in the carpark just by the ticket office but if you plan to use it allow yourself a hour or four to get the charger to work.

Enjoyable one-way trip on historic Ullswater steamer marred by expensive parking fee.

There was nothing wrong with the ferry in itself but the £12 parking fee - in addition to the ticket price for a one-way trip across Ullswater - is typical of the cynical exploitation now endemic within the UK tourist industry. When we last used this ferry some two years ago, our recollection is that there was a concessionary parking fee for passengers. Our understanding from the website is that this no longer applies which is disappointing and which makes for an expensive day out.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us some valuable feedback. I'm pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time onboard, and hope that you will be returning to experience the beauty of the Ullswater valley from the unique vantage points on offer from our heritage fleet. There are multiple tariffs on offer at our car park at Glenridding Pier, of which the £12 option is the most expensive. This entitles you to a full 12 hours, whilst other options exist for 3 hours and 5 hours respectively. Charges are in line with the other pay and display car parks in the area. In my 15 years here, we have never offered concessionary fees for passengers. During the height of the recent pandemic, we did give the option of booking a parking space online, though this has been removed due to the logistical difficulties presented by increased activity in Lake District car parks since the lifting of restrictions. The UK tourist industry has been faced with a wide range of challenges, with reduced footfall and increased costs over recent years. Though undesirable, it is inevitable that some of this cost is passed on to our customers - as is the case in any industry where overheads rise.

Super helpful staff, enjoyable boat ride.

First impressions were great, the lady at the till was very helpful and went out of her way to work out the best option to charge for our fair which was a large group, 6 adults and 6 children. The trip work out at good value with my added blue light discount.
We enjoyed our picnic on the boat on our way across.
On the way back the children were given activity books to do which were a hit!
Staff were chirpy and welcoming aboard the boat and also assisted in getting the wheelchair for one of our party.

Boat ride

£22 each for a round trip, the staff are friendly and helpful, the journey is calm and peaceful. There was a discount for 4 people but no concession for disabled. However I think that it is value for money.

Nice trip up the lake

Although the steamers were not running a full service the staff were excellent and because we had come a long way the manager gave us a cup of tea which was very nice of him Lovely trip up the lake

Very enjoyable boat trip!

Despite the weather it was a really good trip. Was quite a windy morning and the staff were very helpful in keeping us informed of conditions and if our boat was running or not. Ended up managing to sail and we had such a lovely time on the water. Great to see The Lakes from a lake, would definitely recommend this as the views were stunning even in the drizzle!

60th birthday treat with all the family and assorted pooches

We are a large family and made the trip to glenridding from pooley bridge as part of my 60th birthday celebrations. Parking is plentiful at pooley bridge but take change !! Very busy on the pier but staff very friendly. And efficient. We sat downstairs with assorted dogs as the rain on the upper deck was horizontal!! We disembarked at glenridding, climbed a mountain still in horizontal rain and we were very grateful to get shelter back inside the cosy cabin of the boat for our return journey

Pleasant trip

We had a walk on, £22 return from glenridding to Pooley Bridge. The booking was easy, and trips fairly regular. It was a breezey day on the lake, the journey was smooth and about 1 hour. You can vary the journey by getting on and off at other stops.

Despite the weather, very enjoyable trip on The Lady of the Lake from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge return. The views were fantastic and there was some interesting tour guide information provided along the trip. Small bar on board provided a variety of beverages. Nice friendly staff who made you feel very welcome on board.

We travelled from Glenridding to pooley bridge, which was a nice trip, albeit rather pricey. When they announced that we were approaching pooley bridge we moved upstairs (as is standard on other boats like Thames clipper). We couldn't hear anything in the announcement saying to stay seated. A few minutes later the announcement said rudely "to those people standing up, you were warned. If you get hurt it's your fault". Of course we understand that safety is of importance and we would have stayed seated had we heard it, but we had heard no such warning and it could have been said politely. There was no need to be rude.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. It's pleasing to hear that you enjoyed the journey, albeit disappointing to read that you had an issue with the given announcements. I believe this is the result of a misunderstanding, which could have been clarified at the time had you chosen to speak to a member of the crew. Standard practice at Ullswater 'Steamers' is to announce our arrivals at the piers once the boat is safely alongside. This practice is sometimes adapted in windy conditions, when announcements may be made on approach as a precaution, warning people of the potential for minor bumps at the pier (which tend not to happen, thanks to the professionalism and skills of our skippers). When these announcements are made, it is always with the recommendation that our passengers remain seated until the landing is complete. No further announcement is made until the boat is safely alongside, at which point people are advised to leave the vessel in the appropriate fashion (via the gangplank on the upper deck). Given that the second announcement (as stated in the review, 'a few minutes later') only takes place after the completion of the landing (at which point the recommendation to remain seated is no longer necessary), it would seem that an attempt at humour has been mistaken as bad manners, which is unfortunate to say the least. Our skippers and crew pride themselves on providing an efficient and good natured service, and I am certain that this is an unfortunate case of misinterpretation. Having recently enjoyed multiple journeys on the Thames Clippers (a very efficient transport service), I can say that they have a different approach to their announcements, informing passengers of their imminent arrival and (on each occasion I was on board) informing them of which of their multiple exit points will be used to facilitate disembarkation. This is not our practice, largely due to our vessels using the same entry/exit point at every pier, as well as the different nature of our boarding planks which require some space around the exit gates. There are many differences between the ultramodern catamarans plying the Thames and the historic vessels we pride ourselves in operating on Ullswater, hence the differing methods of boarding and disembarkation. I hope this explanation helps to clarify the situation, and that we can look forward to welcoming you back on board in future.
