The views were amazing and there were many lookout points! The terain is a mix of uphill climbs, roots, dry ground, downhill and muddy spots.

If you want a lot of bang for your buck this trail is definitely worth it! It is challenging at times and the biggest challenge is the length. It is a day excursion so make sure you pack enough snacks and water for that. Highly recommend! Did it with two kiddos and they were fine. Some parts were wet and slushy but wore trail shoes and was fine.

This was a highlight experience for me when visiting Algonquin Park along Route 60. I followed another reviewer's advice and did the trail in reverse. I did this so I could experience the 'highlight' view right away, without the 'selfie invaders' around. This strategy worked, as we were the only ones there.
As we made our way to the final quarter of the hike, we passed quite a few people on their way to the 'postcard view.'
It took us 4 hours to do the trail.
If I were to go again, I would try to time it with the fall colours. If you go to the Algonquin Park website, they have a live cam at their visitor center, which gives you an idea of how the fall leaves look on any given day (although this is a separate location on Hwy 60).

For our 22nd wedding anniversary I decided that I wanted to hike, something we can do while we are still physically able (late 40's here). I picked centennial ridges as recommended by majority on social media. It did not disappoint! Where we are in Ontario we don't really have mountains so I did not expect it to be steep climb. There are some hills enough to keep your blood pumping and a good 11 km hike.Very busy that day but the area is big enough to share with everyone we didn't feel crowded. There are so many places where you can stop to eat, drink and enjoy the view. It took us a little under 4 hours from start to finish with all the stops. It was a nice hike it satisfied my 'hike cravings'.
There was a lot of "I" because the hike was mainly my idea. My husband and son were forced to do it with me. But at the end they were glad they hiked it too.

We did this trail as a reasonably fit couple on a warm sunny day during a visit to Algonquin. The hike took us 4 hours 20 mins, we didn't stop much and walked at a reasonable pace. The views were worth the hard work!! Marker 10 was definitely the best view, absolutely breathtaking! We saw lots of chipmunks and squirrels, and a couple of birds. There were lots of other people on the trail too, but in the main it was a peaceful hike. Challenging in places but so plessed we did it for the views!

I did this trail a few times in the past 10 years during spring, summer and fall time. Summer hikes can be quite challenging due to heath, humidity and mosquitoes. During the mosquito and black fly season it is crucial
to cover yourself properly (long sleeves cotton shirt and long cotton pants, along with hat and head net) as well as plenty of bug spray and water to be hydrated (4-5 small bottles is what I usually bring). This combination might not be the most appealing solution during hot sunny days and in that case you might have to pick a different season. During spring time trail can be muddy.
The views are amazing, specially the one at points 10 and 11, which is the last ridge on the trail (unless you start the hike in the opposite direction). Many sections of the trail have steep ascents and descents, exposed tree roots and rocks. It is not recommended for someone with low physical fitness. There are many nice points on the trail for breaks and pictures and you should take your time if you get tired. Keep in mind that it can take anywhere between 3-6 hrs to complete this trail, so arrive early to ensure you have enough time.
I have never seen much wildlife on this trail
except for a few chipmunks and birds. It is a popular trail, so you will not be alone mainly in the summer time.

Long trail with many elevation changes, certainly need to start early and come prepared with water and likely food. Other option is to just go part way for great views and then return on same route. Trail can be muddy but the views are spectacular on the ridge, not to be missed during fall colours.

Great, long hike with epic views!
From parking lot it was 13.48 kilns and not flat! It took us 3 hrs and 49 minutes with picture stops and a lunch stop.
Plus I recently sprained my ankle and was a little slower as I can't afford to reinjure it!
The only negative is the flies but because of the reviews I was prepared with bug spray but honestly netting would have been better.
I didn't see a lot of wildlife either, a few birds lots of chipmunks and millions of dragon flies.
Glad we did it, great exercise and great views!

This is a longer trail, about 10 km in total. It is rated difficult, and that is mostly because of the many ups and downs, as well as the many rocks and roots that seem to be everywhere. We also went after a rainy day, and there were a lot of muddy areas to go around (or through!). So it can be challenging, but it was worth it.
There are several scenic look-outs, including two main ridges with spectacular views of the woods and lakes. We went in September when the leaves were starting to turn, the crowds were down and the bugs non-existent. Perfect!

This was easily the most beautiful hike we have done in Ontario. It is moderately challenging with lots of ascents and descents. Each of the ascents rewards you with a spectacular view from along the ridge. There are 12 marked viewpoints but each one of the viewpoints along the ridge (there are at least 4 that I recall) actually has multiple viewpoints. When you arrive on top of the ridge there is no need to congregate with everyone, just walk ahead and you will find several other spots, each more beautiful than the last. On top of the ridge are sweeping views over the tree canopy and the lakes below. We timed our visit (Sept 26) around the peak viewing season for maples and the canopy was a sea of red, orange and yellow. The trail was full of colourful maples and poplars, contrasted by beautiful white birch trees.
None of this 10 km hike is flat or smooth - it is winding and narrow (single file for much of it) and you are hiking over rocks, rock face, tree roots and mud. Wear hiking shoes or you will regret it.
There are no washrooms except for an outhouse in the parking lot. Go early - we arrived around 10:30am and had to park on the side of the road 1/2 km from the parking lot (by the time we got back cars were parked nearly 2km out). The last two viewpoints of the 12 were a slow go because of all the people entering the park and just doing those last few viewpoints in reverse direction instead of the full loop. The full 10km loop took us 4 hours including 1/2 hour picnic lunch, tons of photos, and the painfully slow last few kilometres when the trail got crowded.

Hi everyone - could you tell me if there is a lot of rocks in there?
I'm traveling with two dogs, and walking on hot stones/rocks in June might not be most pleasant for their paws... but I would really love to do this hike!
Any advice would be very helpful - would you suggest this trail to dogs?

Hi, I'd like to do this hike Sat 18 Nov. Is it feasible to drive in from Toronto, do the hike and then drive back at all?

Where is the best place to go for seniors to view the fall colors. We plan to drive there tmorrow.

Hi there. This response may be a bit too late since I just saw the message now. My parents (70 and 66) recently completed a few of the shorter trails in Algonquin, one of which was the Lookout Trail which is about 2 km in length but fairly steep. The view over the park from that trail is lovely and would be fantastic for the Fall colours, but you didn't say anything about how active you want to be. I've met plenty of seniors who are in better shape than I am so I don't want to make assumptions! The easiest trail in the park is the Spruce Bog which is a boardwalk trail and about 1.5 km long. It is also a nice trail and not challenging - it's actually wheelchair accessible. There are also plenty of other short trails that would be less challenging than Lookout and more challenging than Spruce Bog. You can see the trail descriptions at the Visitors Centre at either gate and I'm sure they could also make recommendations. There is also the Logging Museum and other attractions along Hwy 60 that wouldn't require a lot of walking. I really think you could enjoy the colours from anywhere in the park - even from your car, but getting onto a trail, even a short one helps add to the experience. Hope you enjoy your day!
