A memorable vineyard visit!

Far from polished, we had a great time at this family-run winery. The setting has an unusual old-time industrial vibe, the patio was sweet, and the lone staff member was friendly and willing to answer our many questions. Above all, the wine was decent! The old vines were impressive, great to see. The setting right on the San Andreas Fault was an feature, and the gorgeous drive through the Hollister Hills was dramatic.
One downside: no non-alcohol beverages were available for underage and non-drinking members of our party. Given the heat at the time, ice water or lemonade would have added to the sense of hospitality!

Family operated winery with super good wine.

We stopped by the first time about a year ago and were very impressed with their wines. People we were with also liked them, and they are kind of picky. We joined the wine club and have not been disappointed. This is a family run winery. Family members are really nice. The setting is down to earth and industrial, which creates a unique vibe, and the patio is nice. Their Chilean wines are especially yummy. I bought the last case of the Alchemy Angel. (Yeah!) nHeard their events are amazing and sell out fast but haven't been able to make it to one yet.

Some very nice wines, a worthy visit if you're buying.

Truth be told, this place isn't sexy on any level, just a large space with an industrial vibe. But, that's not the reason you should visit because the wines are the star here. Our tasting server knew his stuff, but came across as uncomfortably arrogant. Nevertheless, we walked out with some great wine!

Great DeRose Wine Tasting Experience

We went out to DeRose for some wine tasting with our neighbors. It’s been a while since were there last. Al was there serving the tastings so we had a great visit and wine tasting. We had several tastings and was able to revisit some of the wines. We had a great time. We won’t wait so long till we go next time.

Very good red/white wines in large winery near Hollister, CA

DeRose is housed in a huge building that includes all aspects of the winery. Large list of tasting for only $10/person and you can purchase bottles or become a wine member. Worth a stop while on Route 25 thru the winding hills near Hollister, CA.

stopped on a whim, not disappointed at all. Tasted some very delicious wines, left with a case and joined the wine club.

lots of wines, older winery

The good part about the visit is that there are lots of wines to try, although it's hard to know what is grown and made in any given place. The staff was chatty and kept our attention. The winery itself is older, and not 100% updated but it's a National Register property because there is a crack in it from the San Andreas Fault. Because of that historical designation, I'm not sure how much of the "oldness" feeling is due to restrictions on what they can or can't do, or whether they just haven't invested as much in the property itself. It doesn't detract from the visit, just something to know in advance. I wish the old car museum had been open when we went. It sounds pretty cool, but I think they said it's only open one Saturday a month or something like that.

Worse attitude ever. How can I score 0?

We ventured into DeRose, after a beautiful 20 minutes countryside drive from Hollister. The place was empty. Except for us and the young employee manning the tasting bar. We went through the first glass, which was a non-descript white. As it became clear that the next wine would be tasted in the same glass, we asked the employee for a new glass as there was a bit of the first tasting we wanted to keep in the current glass to revisit once other wines had been poured. He told us this was not something he could accommodate because that would mean he'd have 5 glasses to wash instead of one.

Yup. Real story.

There was no one else in the winery. And there were at least 50 clean glasses on the counter behind him.

We walked out at that moment.

Make yourselves a favor - try the Paso Robles wineries instead as they did not seem to suffer from the same unjustified arrogance and misplaced self-entitlement we got from DeRose.

Best on the trail

DeRose is a place that I take all of my visiting friends and family. They have a wonderful wine selection that you will not be disappointed with. They always have very friendly and informed staff to help answer questions and give history. The tasting room is very unique and a fun place to hang out. This is also the least expensive place to taste. It's always a great time and remains my favorite on the trial!

Had Second throughts

From the road, this winery looks less than inviting, it looks like an old warehouse. Once inside, the story is different. Good wines and definitely worth the visit. Wide range of wines to taste.
