I took two classes during my 3 day stay in Idyllwild, and enjoyed them very much. The teachers are truly passionate artist who are willing to customize everyone’s learning experience even when it involves much more time, work and cleaning for them. They are very knowledgable, and have high aesthetics standards. This is not a cheesy ‘art’ class where you look at some tacky examples and mess around with paint and clay for a souvenir. Take your kids or friends here to express themself creatively, experience the atmosphere of a true artist studio, and deepen their visual culture. Thank you Helen and Jason for all your patience and great work that you do.

My sister recently treated me to an afternoon at Mountain Pottery for my birthday, along with several friends. There were five of us in our group, and there were five potter's wheels, so we could all work on our projects simultaneously. Jason, the proprietor, first showed us how to get the air bubbles out of the ball of clay, and then he demonstrated how to do each step of the process of making a small bowl or dish. He was there each step of the way to offer encouragement and to answer any questions that we had. Even though I had never used a potter's wheel before, Jason's instructions and demonstrations were so clear that we had no trouble following them. I eventually produced a small, nicely shaped bowl that will be used as a pretty candy dish, or something similar. We left our projects with Jason to be glazed and fired and will pick them up when they are ready. After we had finished our projects, we left the studio and sat at a picnic table in the yard to have birthday cupcakes and ice cream. The afternoon was a great deal of fun, and I got to try something new that I really enjoyed. I plan on returning to the studio to learn more about making pottery and to develop my skills in this area. It is truly a lot of fun!

I was in Idyllwild and chanced upon Mountain Pottery. Helen (the owner) and Terryann (the Manager) convinced me to pottery give it a try. I’m so glad I did! Helen and Terryann are nurturing, positive and encouraging. The first piece I made was probably awful by artistic standards, but it felt like a masterpiece to me.
This is not just one of those ceramics shops that lets you pick a pre-made piece and paint it. I learned how to bring a lump of clay to life. It was delightful!

I took a weekend workshop at Mountain Pottery with Helen and Terryann and had a great time! We made leaf dishes. I have no pottery experience to speak of but Helen and Terryann made it fun and easy for me. This would be a great activity for friends, couples or for parents and kids. I got to pick my clay, my leaf mold and my glaze. The dishes came out so well! They also have pottery for sale at very reasonable prices, and they have wheel classes and projects. Thank you Helen and Terryann!

A group of us were up for the weekend for a relaxing bachelorette weekend (really!) and Lucy and Terryann’s class was by far the highlight! They guided us through two projects, one wheel and one hand-built so everyone got to try a bit of everything. Both were extremely knowledgeable and supportive, and everyone was delighted with how well their projects turned out. The studio is as beautiful as the mountain location itself; there’s hardly a better place to spend some quality time with friends. They were extremely accommodating with our group—even decorating for the occasion—I can’t recommend them enough!

Our friend had her birthday party at Mountain Pottery. We had a great time! Lucy and Terryann showed us how to craft pottery bowls. We decorated them, and then came back a few days later to glaze them. It was a great birthday activity. Lucy and Terryann are kind to beginners like me, but can show others with some experience how to get the most out of their pottery.
