Julian is a one horse town at 4000 feet up in the hills. Its a great spot to spend the day. The Town Hall hosts some public restrooms and has some information about the town. You might even meet some folks that can share personal experiences about the area.

Lots of information here either by brochure or voice from the very nice staff.
There is a Town Hall inside with stage with pictures on both walls of the older Julian. Worth getting information from all areas.

Our in-keeper/host (Jim) at Eagle Nest B&B filled us in on the amazing Civil War confederate history that Julian has in its past. Who knew? Now we do! Those old confederate soldiers did not die after all. I don't have a dog in this fight so will pass on this historical issue.
However, the Town Hall (built in 1914) is anything but a seat of government. Walk up those steps, go in the doors (no admission fee) and read the info pictures on the wall. The majority of the interior space is dedicated to a stage and places where seating could be arranged for a performance.
It is enough for many of us to go to Julian on a one-day outing for that wonderful apple pie (for which they are famous) but if you spend a couple of days, there is time enough to delve into the rich lore of the area.

We were so looking forward to visiting this Victorian town,and unfortunately did so on NY day. There was a traffic jam for about 4 miles approaching the town, not a parking spot to be had. Very long queues of people at all cafes and restaurants that were open, many were not. Glad we had some snack-bars in the car. The only "supermarket" that was open is very expensive. No public toilets apart from City Hall - again long queues round the block We had contemplated staying here for 4 nights, so glad we didn't - not much to see or do. The shops sell the usual touristy nik-naks found everywhere.
Only one lady serving at one of these shops was friendly, but we could not use the restroom. We were pointed to a "porta-potti" outside the one garage - ugh.
Did not even bother to take photos. The drive to and from Temecula was lovely though.

Nice chat with local dignitaries ( also Santa sat outside) Tourist information also operates from this building and plenty of free leaflets and other information available.

I was very disappointed after driving over an hour from San Diego to see a Victorian old mining town. There is really nothing to see except shops and some restaurants. The information office was horrible. The attitude was the pamphlets are outside and in general don't bother me. If there was something to see there that was historic we were unable to find it. If you like shopping for a lot of junk, this is your place. My advice -- there are lots of better things to do in the area.

I am so sorry for your experience at Town Hall. All of us in the office enjoy talking with visitors and you'll even find us out on the porch on ocassion pointing out sights and directions.
I would like to express sincere apologies for a less than "welcoming" experience you describe.

Julian Town Hall looks nice from the outside. The building also houses the Chamber of Commerce and the Visitors Center. While we were in Julian, we stopped by the town hall to learn more about the town.
Unfortunately, the couple of folks there were not too friendly with us. They were helpful with the couple ahead of us, but the staff did not greet us at all. Guess we were not worth their time.
Oh well, the good news is that there is information available without having to ask for help. There were pamphlets and brochures available that were very helpful.

We explored the town of Julian and as part of this exploration went to the Town Hall. Its a quaint building with information on the area. This is also where one can learn about upcoming events such as the upcoming Julilan Grape Stomp.

A stroll through Julian‘s downtown is a wonderful thing to do. There’s all kind of eclectic shops and dining establishments to go in and out of. Wow I didn’t get into the Julian Townhall the fiddler outside playing music that we listen to for a while. Very fun experience.
