This is a nice walk that gives you a glimpse of how the Mexican people hustle.
There's a lot of souvenir shops where you find hand crafted goods such as bags, shoes and toys. Not to mention the history that you can get on this street.
Although it's a nice stroll, it was a short walk and left me wanted for more.
But overall it was a good experience !

The street is neat with restaurants and shops but the area outside of the street isn’t safe. There are many homeless camps and mental health/addiction persons. We were warned about downtown LA and still went. We felt safe at this street but once we left this street - even in the daylight - it was not ok!!

This is where the first settlers set up camp- very cool. Gives you great insight into the history of Los Angeles. Definitely visit the Museum of Chinese American History when you are in the neighborhood.

I remember it being more lively and crowded and it seemed like a lot of vendors weren't there, which I found odd for a Saturday. Maybe it's more fun on a holiday/holiday weekend?

Well worth a visit when visiting Los Angeles especially on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon with much to do for all.
The streets are vibrant, the entertainment is special, the shopping is fun and the atmosphere is buzzing.

Visited Olvera street with the family for a fun spring break outing. While it is definitely "touristy", it is also historical with many beautiful historical buildings and churches. Kept very clean and is nicely located to union station (right across the street). Without dining you could spend about an hour here, add in dining and it could be a 2 hour trip. Which they offered entertainment or something to make the visit longer. Mainly just shopping, food and the historical buildings.

Definitely go there for Dia de Los Muertos, the people who did the performances when I was there were fantastic. Very much in the spirit of the event.

Lots of items on sale right now, shoes were a great buy. The restaurants are open, and everyone has a great menu. Beware of the homeless and keep your high price items close to your body. I you drive use the public parking lot.

Can you walk to Olvera Street from Union Station? It like to be about a third of a mile away but cannot tell if you can walk there due to the freeway being right there...so it sure if pedestrian friendly. Thanks!

Gee, I looked up their events, and they had the Blessing of the Animals yesterday, March 31, but I see nothing listed for today. The street may be open, but the shops may be closed for Easter. I wish there was a phone number to call but it's not like that. Sorry about that. Chinatown is right there too, if Olvera Street is locked up, you can stroll Chinatown which should be open. They have a GREAT shopping mall where everything is soooooooo inexpensive. All from China, not an "American" mall. And many stalls on the shopping street. All along Broadway.

Hello! Planning out vacation in the area and bringing our small dog. Is this place pet friendly? If not, I usually put her in a doggie bag, is that okay? Any pet friendly places we can visit in that area?

Olvera Street is usually crowded - but a small dog in a bag would probably be no problem. There are patio restaurants there.
Many restaurants around town now allow dogs on the patios, even furnish water bowls, etc...
