This trip was amazing! We just returned from the American River 2 day, South Fork/Middle Fork rafting trip and can't wait to return. OARS does a wonderful job of offering an exciting adventure along the river. We had an absolute blast. Tom was our guide and he really did a great job of getting to know us and understanding our comfort levels. We had some adrenaline junkies and some anxious first timers (me!) in our group of 6. We all felt extremely safe under his guidance. Day one on the South Fork was a nice introduction and great way to hone our skills. It started out fairly calm and by the end of the day we were rafting Class III rapids. Day two on the Middle Fork started out fast and furious. It was great that we had the same guide both days (Yay Tom!) and we were ready to hit the rapids immediately. The Middle Fork was an experience I won't forget any time soon. I highly recommend choosing OARS (and Tom!) for your rafting experience. We are all ready planning our next OARS adventure!

I went with my son and my brother on the South Fork Gorge trip. It's a mellow trip with some super fun Class III at the end. We had an absolute blast! Highlights were the beautiful river, the excellent lunch spread, and our guide Willa. She is one of the best guides I've ever had on an adventure trip - she was very kind and patient with my teenaged autistic son. I was very touched when she personally escorted him to the top of the jumping cliff on the lake at the end, and everyone was cheering for him to go for it! I highly recommend OARS and will definitely look into doing more trips with them.

From Start to Finish we had the Most EXCELLENT Adventure w/ Adam as our instructor & guide at OARS down the Merced River Yosemite. Friendly people (yes Live people) answered questions before we booked. Informative videos, instructions & paperwork were all provided on line in advance, so we were well prepared. Wet suits, jackets (the water is Cold!) & safety equipment were provided on site. Adam provided information about the area, use of safety equipment, river safety & paddling directions (patiently). Rafting was a BLAST - a perfect balance of exhilarating waves & calm areas where Adam shared information about the area, we chatted & he prepped us for the next named water challenge. Adam was skilled (NO Involuntary swimmers / no one fell out of the boat), knowledgeable, friendly & Very Patient!! Oh & Riverside Lunch was perfectly Delicious!! Stopping where we could make a timely "pit stop" was nice too. We've done other rafting adventures & OARS on the Merced River with ADAM was one of the BEST!!

Highly Recommend!! Rafting the Merced River outside of Yosemite was an incredible experience. The water was high, but never felt unsafe or unmanageable, especially with the fantastic OARS guides leading the way.
Our fantastic guide was Gordon. He was so knowledgable, easy going, and comfortable on the water which made us feel extra safe, while still having the thrilling experience of conquering some major waves and rapids.
If you've never been rafting, I would equate the experience to a lesser version of tubing on a lake, mixed with a water ride at a theme park. It is absolutely manageable for most able-bodied people and a MUST for anybody who loves a thrill, without being a proper thrill-seeker.

We had a blast. We were on the South Fork of the American River. The river was really high from all the snow melt and it was moving pretty fast (~7000 cfs), so some of us were a little worried about the speed and difficulty of the trip and if we'd be involuntarily swimming or not. In the booking process, Oars was very clear that we might end up in the river, but the only time anyone went in was when we jumped in ourselves. Any worries or concerns were unfounded. There were to other girls (early 20s) in a different raft who both ended up in the river, but they got pulled back in quickly by their guide and both had huge smiles on their faces. My two boys (21 & 23) thought it was a lot of fun, honestly, they probably would have liked it to be a little more adventurous, but we rafted through many class 3 and a few class 3+ and it was plenty of fun (my wife and I are in our early 50s). We all were hoping for a couple of class 4, and we are not overly experienced, only been on a similar rafting trip once about 2-3 years ago.
Garrett was our guide - he was great. Very knowledgeable about the river and ensured everyone was safe - he also was a wealth of information and stories that were really fun to hear. Great bantering back and forth all-day, joking with each other, and just having fun (give that guy a raise!). If you enjoy a bit of a rush and can follow basic oaring instructions, you'll love it.
Lunch was simple, but it was really good. Sandwiches may seem like no big deal, but they had a nice spread with 3 or 4 different meats and cheese, avocado, pickles, tomatoes, etc. Three different types of mustard to boot! A cooler of cold drinks at the end was a nice touch too.
We are all thinking about going back later in the summer to take on the middle fork, which is more challenging and will for sure book with Oars if we do.

Our tour guides from ROAM were truly exceptional and so well prepared with equipment,( including tarps for rain), served truly 5 star meals (think eggs benedict, steak, lamb, pecan crusted halibut, french toast, banana pancakes), and gave us so much history and great stories about the Tatshenshini River and the Yukon, British Columbia, Alaska area. They went above and beyond to accomodate everyone. We saw bears, moose bones and tracks and although we knew the animals were around, we never felt unsafe. Ashley, owner and lead guide was incredibly organized and a great leader for Whitney, Kyler, and Grace. I fell in love with all of them!!!! A real trip of a lifetime for me.

The experience with OARS on the American River is incredibly well done. The booking process was streamlined and easy. All pertinent information to have a comfortable and fun rafting experience was communicated in a timely manner. With so many different outfitters on the river you can see that OARS clearly provides the best experience. Our guide Jose the self proclaimed River God was just hands down a lovely human being who made our day special. He ensured everyone felt safe and knew the right balance of seriousness as well as humor throughout the day. He constantly checked in with everyone to make sure we were all comfortable and having fun. Being on the river is an incredible experience to begin with but OARS really makes it special.

An exceptionally well organized trip. Maddy did a phenomenal job as the trip leader, though all the guides were thoroughly professional, knowledgeable, and fun to be with – thank you Zack, Garth, Maggy, Max and Travis! As a team, they worked exceedingly well together, which really made for a suburb trip. Guest safety was clearly paramount, and handled very well indeed. The meals were varied, filling, nutritious and delicious, and the equipment was all first-rate. OARS is polished and thorough in their execution, and having led various wilderness trips myself, I can thoroughly recommend them without any reservations whatsoever.

From the awesome guides to the rafting, camping, food, it was an unforgettable trip. We loved everything about it. I would highly recommend this, even for someone who isn’t a fan of the outdoors. This trip will blow you away!
