Phenomenal Experience

Wow. What an incredible experience. This was a very pleasant surprise. My husband and I, along with my parents, are Port aficionados so when I saw a port winery outside of Fresno, we were very skeptical. Boy were we proven wrong! We showed up 30 mins before closing but not once did Denise make us feel rushed. In fact, she took the time to thoroughly explain everything to us and add in personal stories. We LOVED all of the port we tasted. The Old Vine Tinta was a fan favorite and it just got a perfect score of 100 points in the Sunset International Wine Competition!! The best part? It’s only $22! We all enjoyed our experience so much that both couples signed up for the PORTfolio Wine Club. It’s $115 biannually, which is well worth it. You get 3 bottles of their latest release along with discounts and access to special events. If you don’t live locally, they do ship for member’s bianual boxes at a $19 flat rate and you’re able to add on other bottles for that same shipping cost. Did I mention there are no tasting fees?? Please do yourself a favor and check out Ficklin, you will not be disappointed.

Hours On Website and Sign are Wrong, Maybe you have to Call?

We tried to visit Ficklin Vineyards on Saturday November 5th, but after arriving at 3PM we were turned away. The website had hours posted, the sign they have on the road had different hours posted, and we found that the actual hours were different from the sign and website. It isn't the easiest place to find and after the effort we made to get there, the best they could do was tell us to leave. No apology for the inaccurate website or sign, no please come see us another time, just "we are closed and can't help you."

No Delivery on Release of 3 I ordered and No Response to Questions on the Matter

I was a member at Ficklin for some years and have purchased various releases. This time when I went out to pick them up one of the Portfolio 3 wine releases was missing. I had not been out there and picked it up nor had it been delivered but they had charged me for it.

Now they are not returning my phone calls, emails or certified mail about this matter.

This is not the signs of a business that cares about its members

Best Tawnies and Ports

This is an awesome place to visit and taste Ports and Tawnies! We first discovered Ficklin Vineyards shortly after arriving in CA 2014. We became club members the1st time we tasted their Ports and Tawnies in August of 2017 and we were quite impressed. At the time, we really didn't know much about Ports or Tawnies. We met John, (sorry don't know his last name) a very nice and knowledgeable man. He took the time to explained the difference between the Port and the Tawnies and their aging process. My favorite are the tawnies although the Ports are also great. Every month there a new blend of Port or Tawny that is created and stored in the barrel that can be purchased and poured directly from the barrel. I love this, but my 1 complain is that most of the time is Ruby or some type of Port, where I prefer the Tawnies but nevertheless, it's been 4 years later and this is still our favorite place to come to. We were ecstatic when tasting was resumed and we had our favorite person, John attend to us. As always, he was professional and took the time to explain each port or tawny and make us feel welcomed and comfortable. It's been a hard year for us all and coming to Flicklin and enjoying our time this past Thursday was awesome. I would like for John to be recognize for his skills in his presentations for each tasting. He is a great, wonderful and valuable employee, and a gem of a person and we appreciate his excellent customer service.

Such a satisfactory stop!

Dashed to Fresno from L.A. to 'hit' couple of wineries b4 endofday. Easily found Ficklin but were eager to find a second one harder to find. The sales manager was so effective, interesting and pleasant we hated to 'drink and run'. Having been to Puerto Portugal twice we were fascinated to find the connection here in our home state ( though we r living now in Tampa) due to Portugese VINES! I've bought Ficklin ports in Bermuda and in Florida and now will continue to. Bought 3 pack of their scrumny flavored ports w/ thought of sharing w/ son&wife and catsitter but we r keeping these ALL 2 OURSELVES😁. Top it off, fellow saw to it we got to Solitary JUST in time b4 tgey closed!!! DO make this stop and buy their reasonably priced port!

We’ve been to this vineyard three times. The port wines that they make are the best I’ve ever had. The flavors are so unique and it makes a tasting session very fun!

We absolutely love visiting this winery. The port wines that are created and served at this winery are beyond amazing. They offer a very distinct and unique blend of brandy wine mixtures. They are just exquisite. A very cute, beautiful, and intimate winery experience.

Great Port

Great little winery hidden away in the vineyard. They have some of the best port wine in the world. They people are real nice and more than willing to "tell you the story".

History in a Bottle

Our guide to ports was a charmer while also being a historian and gentleman. He managed our group of three plus another group of three easily. He gave us the history of the vineyard, what constitutes a good port, and what the unique qualities of their ports are. The tasting was free for the 4 featured varieties, but he let us try the dessert flavors line and the 15 year to compare to the 10 year (of which we bought two bottles, and I, as a local, will likely be back for more).

Their ambiance was organic, a warehouse full of barrels with a simple but cozy tasting area and string lights throughout. I also stunned and curious by the *many* varieties additionally available. Tasting is free. Bottles tend to be more expensive than most low/mid wines, but for locals (and people flying who want a VERY secure bottle) they sell growlers ($25) with a relatively inexpensive refill cost ($25ish).

Locals, this is a place you can go to events or multiple tastings and not be bored (as long as you like wine mixed with brandy; i don't normally do dark liquors, but their brandy is soooo good).Go to their events like their grape stomping. Get a growler and refill that for you and your friends that love sweet wines.
Visitors, this is a must see. The ambiance and sweet ports will warm you up but also teach you about the region. Other wineries on the Madera Wine trail recommend this place (after you've already sampled their wares ;-) If you tell them you are flying, they can wrap the tops extra to prevent leaking.

Downsides: Needs seats/chairs. A person in our group was already worn out from the last winery without seating (we visited 4 in one day), and since no one does physical therapy on vacation, she was very uncomfortable, and we probably would have bought more if we could have stayed longer.
