I would like to explain what happened on the trail ride of April 15, 2024. I am the guide that led that ride. First of all Brianna failed to mention that I first took out her mother and father on their own hour and a half trail ride. They loved it, took many photos and they told me all about Minneapolis. Upon returning to the ranch, I let the horses rehydrate, got the daughter, Brianna and her boyfriend Tanner mounted, adjusted their stirrups and off we went. They loved it as well, and just before the end of the trail, where we turn around we head down in the wash. This is where we heard the rattle of a snake. We never saw him, only heard him. Now we usually don’t see any snakes until June, so this was completely unexpected. I guess they are probably trying to soak up the warmth of the sun on all these rocks we have now from a huge storm we had about 5 months ago. It rained for three days straight, no it poured for three days straight. We had terrible flooding that has now exposed an enormous amount of rock in our wash so that is why the snakes are here early this year. Anyways, I was riding our newly rescued horse who is very young and not accustomed to our wildlife here at the high desert so he spooked. And because mine spooked, Brianna’s horse spooked as well. Well, we went sideways, we went up and we went around and around and just as I was trying to calm him down, my reins broke and I had no control of him so down I went. Brianna fell as well. And just as I hit the ground I let out a big scream and off they went. Mine got caught in barb wire and ripped his neck, Tanner was on the phone calling Georgia and anybody else that would listen. Well Georgia jumped in her truck and by the time she was heading down her driveway, the horses were running up the driveway. Now mine is a big white horse but by the time he got back to the ranch he was a bright red mess with blood pouring out of his neck. She didn’t slow down, she didn’t stop, she actually stepped on the gas she was so worried about us. She reached us in minutes , well we could see her on the other side of the wash but couldn’t get to us due to all the exposed rock. So she went to our neighbor and good friend who owns ATC and just like that there they were, getting us out of there. Now I understand that everyone beats to a different drum and everyone has their own point of view but I am fine, no broken bones, the horse is fine, he healed very quickly and we are back in the saddle again

What an amazing place
Went on a 2 hour ride with 3 of my friends. It was breathtaking! The Ranch is clean the rescue horses were perfect on trail I would highly recommend Cottonwood Canyon Ranch. The whole crew is friendly the stories on how some of these horses got rescued.
You can certainly tell how loved these horses are. You do have to sign a waiver and to note horses can be unpredictable been riding for a while horses can tell if your scared that’s for sure one of my friends was a beginner and she did great !!

I have come here to ride more than a dozen times and every time has been amazing, it’s a true wildlife experience with mountains and canyons and very rural , it’s not the normal horse stable rides. And then the only Ranch to be found with horses that ride with a gate, and not an old plug horse with no energy.
I have to comment on a review I just read from “Climber” because I was there to help with that incident that she talks about but only wish the truth would have been told and not her own story let me explain. She claims the owner hung up on her boyfriend when called but little does she know I was there talking with her parents who could not get ahold of them by phone even though the call came thru once Before a short time before but it’s a hit or miss because of how rural it is. At that moment there was the two horses that came back in a run without the riders and one horse covered with blood , ( which later found out it got tangled up with some Bob Wire fencing after the Snake ordeal ) while her parents trying again to call I tried a friend on the canyon and got thru and had him tell me the proximity of the where abouts by drone so I could go quickly to the location and off I departed .
Even though she says the owners cared more for the horses, I never stopped first to help the bleeding horse before departing , my concern was the people bucked off, and I would like to Thank her Mother for loosening the Cinches on the saddled horses etc… because I did not take the time to do it myself. I went up the canyons while the owner took the 4 wheel drive truck up and around to the top of the mountain. We met together after finding everyone and the owner felt she should ride the horse back herself that the boyfriend was on and he was uninjured. I now had the truck and ATV, and asked the boyfriend if he wouldn’t mind driving the ATV back to the ranch following my friend with the drone on his own ATV, he replied sure not a problem. After getting the wrangler in the truck , I wanted to and offered to take the injured girl back also in the truck but she refused to leave her boyfriend for 15 min to take the better ride back to the ranch, so why blame anyone for the bumpy ride back on the ATV and pain you were feeling . We were all sorry for this situation as we talked all together before the goodbyes and earlier I should mention the Parents had a great ride on the same horses. I did go back out and found your shoe which seems to be fairly New and if you reach out to us with an address we would be happy to mail it back to you. We are sorry once again for this unforeseen incident of nature you had to experience and wish you well.

Please consider reading this before booking a ride here:
I don't leave reviews very much, but I just need to process what happened to my boyfriend and I today here at Cottonwood Canyon Ranch, and I want it to serve as a warning to everyone before considering riding here. I'm not here to scare anyone off, but I think everyone should be aware of what could happen.
My boyfriend, myself, and our guide were out on a trail ride. It was really great up until we got into a clearing where the 2 horses in front (mine and our guide's) heard a rattlesnake and got spooked. Immediately myself and the guide were bucked off of our horses and fell to the ground. The horses ran off immediately, except for my boyfriend's horse. I landed on my hip mostly, and was wearing a helmet, so I wasn't injured as much. Our guide, however, was flung about 10 feet away from her horse and majorly injured her foot and leg. We think it was broken. She couldn't walk. Luckily, one of us had a cell phone and by some miracle, my boyfriend, who hadn't been bucked off because he had been about 10 yards back from us and the rattlesnake, was able to get reception and call the owner for help. However, she actually hung up on him when he called (and this was not a lack of reception, as he still had 2 bars). I helped the guide to her feet, and held her up while we waited in the sun, and to be honest, I really thought we were going to get bit by the same rattlesnake while we were waiting, as there was brush and snake holes all around on the ground. I won't go into many details on the rescue process, but it took about 45 minutes for the owner and a guy they knew who lived on the cliffside to find us, and when they did, they were really concerned with finding the rattlesnake and finding my shoe, which had been flung off my foot when I was bucked off. My boyfriend, the guide, and I, weren't concerned about this at all. Obviously we all just wanted to go home. The guide was in so much pain, I don't know how she wasn't bawling. The only one comforting her was me. When we finally made it out of the canyon, we still had to drive back to the ranch, and for some reason, not wanting to leave their ATV vehicles behind, my boyfriend had to drive us back on one while our guide was taken in the truck. I was bawling the entire ride back since every bump hurt, and I had held it together during the rescue to distract our guide from the pain and hold her up physically and mentally. I'm not saying anything definitive, but it felt like the owners cared more about their vehicles and horses than they did about us as people (I care a lot about horses too, but I would have prioritized things differently, myself).
I write this as I'm laying in bed at our hotel, just trying to process what honestly was a life or death situation, in a lot of pain as my adrenaline has warn off. We got to the ranch at 1pm, and didn't leave until about 6pm due to this emergency situation. We didn't really get much of an apology either. We all understood the risks of riding, and didn't necessarily expect a refund for this, but a little more compassion and maybe not leaving us to drive back on an ATV by ourselves after I had been injured, would have been nice. I want to warn everyone about what could happen to you on a trail ride, and how honestly unprepared these people were for an emergency. There were so many things done wrong, and I'm honestly really thankful that we're all safe now, including the horses, and that no one was actually bit by the rattlesnake, but before you go, please ask how they handle an emergency, especially one like this, which could happen to anyone.
I do wish everyone at the ranch well, especially the guide and the horses, since they are rescue horses.
I don't blame the horses for getting spooked or running off at all, and I don't blame the guide. I do blame the careless response to an emergency and major injury, as well as just the apathetic response to the situation by the owners. Please, use caution here, ask questions, be diligent, and please be safe, above all else.

Had an awful experience. Owner called to confirm the ride and made the comment "I hope the horses are not too rambunctious. They haven't been ridden in 5 days". We found out that there was a movie shoot prior to that.
We were on the horses and being oriented in the ring. The Wrangler was instructing us and the horses were not responding well to what were instructed to do. One horse, an Appaloosa, that was quite feisty. It was picking fights with another horse and seemed jumpy. We started the ride and the horse behind the Wrangler wanted to go a different route and would not turn back to the original route. The Wrangler had to get in front of it again.
The appaloosa tried to dart a couple times when we got onto the trail. It wanted to throw my son off. We were about 15 minutes into the ride and it tried again to take off. My son said he wanted to get off. The Wrangler said no. We said we are ending the ride. Wrangler agreed and we turned around. The appaloosa yet again, got jumpy and out of control. My son jumped off and got banged up in the process.
My other son and I got ahead on the way back to the barn. The moment we got to the road, the horses we were on started running full speed down the road. We had no control. They would not react to any commands. They ran into the barn and stopped. We nearly hit our heads on the top of the barn door frame. Thankfully we both ducked. It was terrifying.
The Wrangler called the owner and had the speaker phone on. The owner admonished her for not "running the s... out of the appaloosa first" The Wrangler said that horse should be shot. She also said the saddle was loose. We agreed to half of our money back. It is a cash only, up front business. Beware, no recourse.
We left and calmed down a bit and realized the danger we were in. Called her back and she agreed to pay the rest back to us if we didn't write a bad review.
Long story short, we have never received our balance. Lots of excuses. Husband is in the hospital, etc. Georgia also claimed she fired the Wrangler. After my last call she sent me a text meant for someone else saying that a hole is texting her again and to tell the Wrangler, the fired one, about the next ride.
The owner is not truthful and the place feels poorly run.

DONT GO HERE, ITS NOT SAFE
TL;DR:
This place is dangerous. The horses are out of control.
My brothers horse bucked him off. My dad and I’s horses ran full speed to the barn, we had to duck so that we didn’t get decapitated by the roof. The owner accidentally sent my dad a text referring to him as an “assh*le” after she agreed to give us a refund (which she never gave us).
Went horseback riding for the first time here with my family right after Christmas week. The owner told my dad on the phone as we were arriving that “the horses are little rambunctious after the holiday.” That was the first red flag. When we got there, they immediately asked for the payment up front as we signed waivers agreeing that the ranch wasn’t at fault for any injuries. Assuming this was just standard procedure, we followed instructions and mounted the horses. We were then given a brief lesson in the pen on how to control the horses. Even in the pen it felt like the horses weren’t responding to any of the commands we were taught to give them. But the wrangler insisted we start the journey up the creek. Immediately once we left the pen, my horse starts moving pretty fast and won’t go in the direction that the wrangler is trying to steer us in, so she says “it’s ok, we’ll just take this route then.” It was beginning to feel like we really had no control over these horses. Once we got onto the trail (which is barely even a trail, and more so an empty, jagged, uphill creek), my brothers horse is acting erratically, randomly jumping and running, and he can’t seem to get it to calm down. Eventually he falls off the horse and the horse goes running. The wrangler apologizes and says it looks like the saddle wasn’t tight enough. We obviously decide the horseback ride is over and we start going back down the hill. The wrangler says we have to remain on our horses the entire way back, even though we aren’t feeling safe on them (except for my brother, who walked back after the fall). My dad and I end up a ways ahead of my mom, my brother, and the wrangler, and by the time we get to the bottom of the hill, our horses start running at full speed. We’re doing everything we were taught to get them to stop but they just keep accelerating. They’re running towards the barn, and they’re only getting faster, we have no time to jump off, so we hold on for dear life. We end up having to duck as they run full speed into the barn, so as not to get decapitated by the roof. It was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. The owner tells my dad that they’d been filming a movie the week before, and that my dad and I’s horses must have been reenacting “the race to the barn scene.” My dad is able to get half of the money back, but after reflecting upon it, we realize we deserve a full refund. We communicate with the owner, who tells us she will refund the rest of the money if we agree not to leave her a negative review online. We never received the money, and she accidentally sent my dad a text, referring to him as an “assh*le.” My brother was badly bruised, but we’re lucky we weren’t seriously injured. Don’t go to this place.

I recently took my 82 year old mom here to fulfill her lifelong dream of riding a horse. Obviously we didn’t so much go riding in the sense, merely walked around so she could get the feeling of it. From the start, Georgia and her team were very accommodating and understanding to my mom’s needs. All of them happily helped my mom get on the horse, and Georgia carefully led the horse around on the grounds. My mom was beyond happy with her first experience on a horse, and can’t wait to go back for more. Next time she comes to visit from Sweden, we will be sure to take here again. My husband and I are going horseback riding there soon too. The grounds and stables are immaculate, and the horses are beautiful and extremely well taken care of. I am so thankful to Georgia and her team for helping us make my mom’s dream come true. We highly recommend this place!

I can't say enough about the owner, the wrangler, and the overall experience. Long story short we were displaced because of a fire in Temecula, a wedding we were attending cancelled (we flew in from NJ), and found ourselves with nothing to do in Palm Springs for 2 days. I called CottonWood Canyon Ranch and spoke to the owner, Georgia, asking if there was any chance she could get me and my husband out on a ride the following day. Even though we were so last minute with our requests, Georgia was quick to respond and accommodated us. We were able to go out the following day with the wrangler Sydney. She was fantastic. She gave us a wonderful tour of the Morongo Valley. We felt extremely safe, the horses were beautiful and loving. I truly don't have words, this was honestly such an amazing experience, it turned our trip around. We came from New Jersey and felt like we had flown to California for nothing after the wedding cancellation. This experience made the trip COMPLETELY worth it. I strongly recommend. You will not be disappointed in the scenery, the western experience, or the company.

I wanted to take my parents riding through the mountains, and I saw online it was a guided tour through the mountains of Palm Springs. When making the appointment through the phone, I specifically said we had only been riding 1-2 times, and it’s been a really long time since the last time (5-10 years). Through the website and the phone call, I was never told that the trails were not beginner friendly and had the impression that we were able to go on the trails- which is why I paid $130 each per person for 1.5 hours. Previously, on another vacation to Puerto Rico years ago, despite it being our first ride, we were able to go through the trails and jungles.
Instead, when we got there, they saw us ride for less than 5 minutes and told us we were going to not able to go on the trails and we’re getting a “lesson”. Instead, for a hour and a half, they just made us ride in circles in the arena. We didn’t learn how to trot, canter, anything, etc. By the hour mark, the horses were also unenthusiastic about the circles, and they would barely move unless Jerry, one of the trainers, took the lead. At the end of it, we felt very cheated during our experience and wished there was more transparency at the beginning.
Overall, while the staff were pretty nice and all the horses are rescues which is great, I wouldn’t recommend it to people who are not advanced riders. Save your money and get a lesson somewhere else.

During an extended trip across the Western US, we also came across Cottonwood Canyon Ranch. My two kids love horseback riding, so we gave it a try. We had a wonderful time thanks to Georgia and her wranglers, who made sure that Klara (8) and Johanna (13) were safe while making the most of their adventure in the desert. Thanks in particular to our wrangler Jimmy, who was very relaxed yet attentive, and made our ride special. Also: great scenery! Thanks a lot to the whole team!
