Beautiful Estate, Good Food, Average Wines

Just down the road from the main 'drag' in Murphys is Ironstone Winery featuring a large estate containing an outdoor amphitheater, indoor/outdoor food service and banquet rooms large enough for business or wedding receptions, and a fascinating museum to enjoy. But, to our tastes, less than spectacular wines. Drink what you like, right? Plenty of people were impressed as we saw boxes on dollys rolling out to cars. (We like quite a few of the wines we discovered in Murphys and a great destination for 3 or 4 days.) We did enjoy our meals and to walk around the grounds was very impressive. This would be a great place for a wedding. Accommodations for the most part are down the road a few minutes consisting of average motels. Fine for weddings with staggered arrival times of guests, but, the traffic to get to this location for a major concert event, well, leave a lot of time to arrive and leave. Ample parking once you arrive though. For an afternoon visit, definitely check it out.

The place for dinner in Murphys!

Enjoyed the tour of the museum, but we were shocked at the quality of the food and service at dinner later that night. I had the duck, and it was fantastic. The wine recommended by the server was spot on and delicious! We had people in Murphys telling us that there wasn't dinner service. Glad we didn't listen!

Wonderful Tasting Room and Restaurant!

Another wonderful find in Murphys. We visited the tasting room and had dinner at the restaurant downstairs. Even joined the wine club! Would have loved to sit outside but there was concerns about the meat bees. But, food was excellent, large portions and great service. Will definitely be back.

Hot and not so hospitable.

July is warm. Friends had said Ironstone was a "must"visit because it is pretty and because of the museum. The AC in the museum was barely working. The vault was so stifling that after 2 attempts I gave up trying to see the gold nugget. I asked where I could get water and a bench. The fountains are turned off but I could walk to the tasting room and buy water. I am not sure where the bench was. I left. Not feeling the need to go back.

Good have been a better experience

A beautiful day for wine tasting...the flowers were gorgeous however the wine tasting hour was not what we anticipated. I had made reservations weeks in advance for the wine tasting. When we arrived we were told there a table was not available for tasting so we had to stand at one of the small bistro tables. Our server would disappear for an extended time then come back with another wine without any description etc. on what we were tasting. We kept being told that a table would become available soon. We only had 1 hr. before they closed and eventually we finally got a table with 15 mins. to spare. After I complained that we did have reservations and why a table was not available....we were told....do you expect us to kick the people out? With limited capacity everywhere, I would expect some time limits to be placed on tables so everyone that they took reservations from could anticipate a good experience with the wine tasting. The next day we had reservations at Bella Grace winery in Sutter Creek and had a wonderful experience with a table outside and a server who cared about her customers.

Beautiful floral display

We took a road trip here on a nice sunny day. We miss our "annual venture" to Daffodil Hill which closed within the last two years because of all the vehicle traffic it created.  On a suggestion from one of my wife's friend who loves flowers suggested a visit to this place.  This place was amazing in all of it's variety of "spring" flowers and manicured grounds.  They have an amazing museum which tells about the history and some amazing petrified stone wood dating millions of years ago.  The restaurant was well priced and the staff friendly. On this outing we didn't participate in wine tasting but to enjoy the flowers around the property.

Overall we had a great time.

A must see destination!

Ironstone is a destination unto itself!! We were visiting the California Gold Rush towns and were told to check out Ironstone vineyards. We signed up for the tour and were greatly rewarded! Our guide was a half hour late, so they offered wine to my wife and I while they chatted with us as we waited. We were the only two on the tour until a couple joined us half way through. Anyway Conrad was a magnificent guide and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the stories and details of history that he rattled off nonstop!! The tour was supposed to be an hour, but we pestered Conrad with questions and he just kept on going for almost 2 hours - totally relaxing and enjoyable. The estate is phenomenal, the outdoor amphitheater is spectacular, and the museum pieces including the world record chunk of gold from a local mine (another long story!) are must see items! We had lunch in the bistro along with a flight of wines that our server, Clarissa, recommended. We ended up taking home several bottles!

Referred by our timeshare we went tasting and lunching at Ironstone Vineyards on a lovely Fall day. The grounds are impressive, the staff in the tasting room, and the food in the Bistro were excellent. The two of us tasted 10 different Ironstone's wines and learned a great deal about the business, sources of the grapes and so forth. Well worth spending a few hours on site.

Excellent brunch

We love Ironstone and belong to the winery. We find that the wines (and their prices!) are very good. Last night we enjoyed watching "Beetlejuice" at the winery: they have a classic film on the outdoor screen 4 times a year. And today (Sunday) we drove up for the brunch: it was just superb! I highly recommend this place to anyone!

Beautiful Winery

I spent the weekend alone and decided to do some wine tastings. This location is surrounded by such beautiful grounds. The wines were really nice and very reasonably priced. I picked up a couple of bottles to take home and share with my husband.
