We always swing by for a visit and usually can find something to buy when in San Clemente. Great prices, mostly more current selection of books. Range of selection varies, based on what has been donated. I find it worth the time to stop by. Never certain what I will find. Found 4 books to purchase last trip and minimal cost.

Not a big room. Small selection. Fine for locals but I went from the airport and wasred a trip. Hate to say anything bad about friends of the library.

This unknown gem is a small room on the first floor of the Library on Avocado. The reason that it deserves its own listing is that it offers donated books of all varieties for sale at an incredible price. It is like Fahrenheit 451, in reverse, they put out the books in a fire sale and you get to take them home and read them!!! Bradbury is grinning.
Most smaller paperbacks are 2 for $1 and others are $1. These are for current works, Children's books, classic works. Including James Patterson, Tom Clancy, Shakespeare and lots of others. Then there are the non-fiction books in all topics, including Autos, Boats, Gardens, Cooking, Pets, History, Hobbies, etc, etc. I cannot list the entire catalog in this review.
Then there are the hardback versions, starting at $1 and going up, depending on the subject/title/age/quality. I bought the Harry Potter series in hard bound, with every volume being pristine, and the most expensive one was $6, the least was $1. I found an art book of Impressionist Paintings in Winter, I don't think it had been read, retail on the internet was about $90, and it was priced at $12.
If this does not whet the Bibliophile's palate, they have semi-annual sales where they haul out boxes of books and sell them for $2 a bag. I got 4 hardbound and 1 soft cover for $2.
If you are shopping for books, this is worth a visit, however, please understand these are donated books so the selection can vary from time to time, and what you want may not be there if you only visit once. If you are fairly local and can return, you are sure to find lots to your liking. We try to go once a month, but they have lots of turnover in between our visits.
Not all books are like new, I have seen several "First Editions" in glass cases. These rare books are pricier, and I am not an expert, but I believe that the prices are far lower than any other bookstore.
Of course, if you are surgically attached to your Kindle or other electronic book reader, this may not be for you. Personally, we love the romance of holding our very own book in hand and believe that a physical library is a treasure. There is something about turning a page..
All the proceeds go to support the Newport Beach Public Libraries. The Workers at the store are volunteers.
The Store takes credit cards and cash.
The big problem with the store is the "Kid in the Candy Store" syndrome and you may find you are walking out with 2 shopping bags (or more) of books.
