On top of everything else, Riverside Indoor Shooting Range NOW has INDOOR AXE THROWING !!!
They have added about 6 Axe Throwing Lanes outside of their shooting areas between them and their Indoor Archery area! It's brand new and well-lit and they even supply 2 types of Axes ... one for "beginners" and another for those that really want to throw some heavy metal. I can't believe it.
I've never thrown an Axe before but have seen it done on TV. And it looked fun ... if maybe a bit Cave-Man-like. Tom Reese, the owner of RISR, let me try throwing one just for the heck of it. Let's just say I need to do it again ....
$25 gets you a lane all to yourself (protected from the others) for an hour. The light above the target will turn off after an hour to remind you that your time is up. They haven't set an amount for additional use, but I'm certain they'd give you a bargain price.
OK. Let's summarize RISR: Three indoor (and separate) gun ranges (2 have 10 lanes and the 3rd has 5 lanes and is for private training or gun qualifications, like CCR), one indoor Archery area that accommodates at least 3 lanes or Archers, an education area (for a variety of purposes but I've taken my CCR training there), ammunition sales, rental guns and now this ... AXE THROWING !!!
And I have never left RISR feeling anything less than fully energized.
I'll bring my camera next time and take a few pictures. But it is really clean and well-organized, and even has its own Check In counter. I have no idea what else they could add. But RISR continues to amaze me .....

My bet is that TA kicks back this review as I have done so many on Riverside Indoor Shooting Range.
But this one has NEW information: In addition to all of the other great things that RISR offers, they ALSO HAVE GUN SMITHING ! Just try to find a Gunsmith these days that will do anything for you at a reasonable, if not bargain basement price, and you will know what I mean.
I had 2 guns serviced. They were having problems shooting properly and I asked Tom Reese to check them out. For the first gun he said all it needed was a spring tightened inside the grip ... apparently something quite common for Smith & Wesson Revolvers. NO CHARGE. (But I had no idea what it needed!)
For the second one, it also needed a new spring. Not only did Tom diagnose the problem but he also ordered the special spring (as the old one was worn out) and installed it. I'd tell you the price but I am embarrassed how low it was.
Anyway, I do not know of any other Range that has THAT TYPE of support. In addition to my targets, I was totally blown away by their gun smithing.
On an unrelated subject, my son loaned me his Glock 30 45 Caliber 10 round semi automatic. I had shot it once. But this time I videoed it. ...... SWEET !!! Check out the attached video.
Btw, I always shoot at the same targets used for Concealed Carry Qualification. It keeps me current on my skills. But with this Glock 30? Wow. I was really impressed.
Sorry, I just tried to upload a great video but TA apparently no longer supports videos. So I'll just have to show before / after pictures of my shooting. Too bad. Nothing quite as impressive as seeing holes appear in you targets at the same time you hear a bang .......

I admit that I have always been a fan of RISR. That said, I had never taken a class there. But I recently took their CCW class and was thoroughly pleased not only with the content but the manner in which it was presented.
There were about 30 people in the class. So if you are interested it taking it, make sure to check out the scheduling at least 2 weeks in advance to enroll in it. In addition to gaining insights on concealed carry, you will see extremely graphic video the likes of which you probably have never seen in your life. Having a CCW is not for the faint of heart. And as RISR presented it, the responsibilities entailed in having a CCW are enormous.
Frankly, I would suggest whether you take the class as one of the requirements for getting a CCW ... or just understanding what it entails ... I recommend taking this class if only from an educational perspective.
Everything from the type of gun you use ... to where and how you holster it ... to how you might respond to life-threatening encounter are covered. Based on what I learned during the class I actually decided not to try to quality with one of my guns.
And one of the things I most valued was the "situational awareness" aspects of avoiding problems. In actuality the best weapon you own exists between your ears. I am now more aware of my surroundings than ever before.
If you get nothing else from this review, USE YOUR 6TH SENSE TO AVOID SITUATIONS YOU "FEEL" (AND KNOW IN YOUR HEART) YOU SHOULD AVOID. And if you carry inside your home (remember the 2nd Amendment gives you that right), practice practice practice the safe handling and securing of your guns!
At the conclusion of the class lectures you walk over to the 3rd Range you typically never shoot in. It is the smaller one that only has a couple lanes that is designed for special training or exams. You can have as many of your guns qualified for CCW as you want. But you must have (and they do) the examination that the gun has not been modified illegally. Then you go into that 3rd Range Firing Line and shoot 6 rounds (or only 5 if you have something like a 5 round 38 revolver) at 3 distances (5, 10, and 15 yards). And you must put at least 14 of 18 rounds inside the target area to be able to qualify each gun and your proficiency with it has passed. Anything less that 14 inside the target area is a Fail.
For me, I can't recall when I had ever shot a target 45' away with any of my handguns. I thought it would be at 10-15 feet only. So in addition to classroom training, you must demonstrate proficiency shooting ANY gun you want to carry.
And on the Certificate RISR provides you, every gun is shown (by make, model and serial number) whether or not it, and you demonstrated proficiency shooting it, passed. You also get a Certificate of successful course completion.
Bottomline, even though I have been regularly going to a Range (not necessarily RISR) for the last 10 years, I learned a lot by taking this class. And candidly it stimulated some of the most candid life discussions with my wife in the last decade. Whether or not you actually apply for a CCW, the decision to do so is one that must (in my opinion) be one you do with your significant other's full approval and support.
I highly recommend this class to any shooting enthusiast whether or not they are considering "carrying". Btw, while you can attend on your own, I wanted my adult son to attend with me. Gaining the input and advise from a significant family member is something you will value.

Went in with a friend to get some range time before my CCW cert. I realized that the two guys working the desk were carrying. I decided to ask them some question on their preferred everyday carry and some things to know when you start to carry. I was welcomed with a snide and rude remark of, " YOU are getting a CCW?!?!" To which i confirmed and told them my exam and range time was the next day in Arizona. They then proceeded to tell me that i was wrong and that what i was saying was not the correct process. To which i told them it is in Arizona, Where I live. They then laughed and told me i dont think so. Again i confirmed and they laughed.
Because of this interaction i will not be back to this range any time i am in town.

This was the closest range to the place we were staying. The staff was very helpful. Since it was my first time in a shooting range, the beginner's class with the .9 caliber was very informative and thrilling. The instructor was very good and had a sense of humour too! The facility is good. Overall as it was my first shooting range experience, it was very good!

... because I read a RISR review that said it was a "no frills" range. I was concerned that it may have changed since I had last been there. But it hasn't. It is just as good as ever. And no frills? Hardly. While Riverside Indoor Shooting Range was customized from a previously designed facility, it was entirely made over ... wall to wall and floor to ceiling. It is spacious, clean, well air conditioned, and full service by any measure.
It consists of 4 separate bays that boasts a total of 35 shooting/archery lanes. To my knowledge there isn't another range facility like it in Southern California. It has complete gun rental accommodations, target, ammo, eye and ear protection, and even separate spotlessly clean ladies-only and gentlemen-only restroom facilities. Even my wife feels comfortable there. The air conditioning and cleanliness is better than any range I have ever been to.
It has on-site meeting and education rooms, mini refreshment areas, and even a VIP relaxation room. For those of you that would like to post notices on guns or whatever you might like to sell, there is also a notification board just to the side of the check-in area just for you. No frills? Hardly.
I'm not into Archery, but an INSIDE Archery Range? Really. I am certain that the gentleman that posted the review saying RISR was no frills was sincere. But how can one realistically make such a comment when RISR offers all these amenities?
It must be a matter of personal taste. I used to love Disneyland. But their prices went through the roof while the park has become more crowded than a sardine can. I used to love Disneyland. But I have not been there in years. Yes, RISR does not have a moving target range line. But I'm not so sure I want to be standing next to someone shooting left and right either.
With approximately 21,000 square feet of newly remodeled facilities, RISR is anything but no frills.
I was concerned that RISR might have changed. But it is still as great as ever and the management and Range Officers (that appear on an ad-hoc basis) as well as their emphasis on safety and a family-friendly sports venue make it the best value for my money.
I took a BUNCH of pictures to prove my point on this review. And as a TripAdvisor Level 6 reviewer that has now traveled, according to TripAdvisor, over 36% of the world and have the means to do so, I make it a point to try to only go to the best.
And in my opinion Riverside Indoor Shooting Range is the best indoor shooting range in the Inland Empire.

First off, I've been to several shooting ranges and Riverside Indoor Shooting Range is very much a "no frills" range. The building was not purposely built for shooting. It's a converted warehouse. It is not well lit and there's no guns, ammo, or accessories on display. So hopefully you will have brought everything we're going to need. They do offer classes. So, the facility is there for shooting and not much else. It does seem to be a pretty popular range. There was quite a few people there while I was in. Most had Semi-automatic rifles. But the best part about this particular range is they are a lot more open about the caliber of rifle you bring in. I was shooting a .50 Cal Beowulf and it wasn't an issue.

Is 9mm ammo with aluminum casings allowed?

As far as I know, aluminum cartridges are allowed. But they do not allow steel bullets. If a magnet is attracted to your ammo, don't bring it. Russian made ammo like Tull is generally a no-no.
Why don't you just call RISR and ask them? They don't bite. They just want you to be safe and have fun ... as long as what you are shooting is not potentially harmful to their facilities.

I really appreciated your response to my reply to your review. I think the primary problem is that, being from Arizona, you do not have a waiting period to buy a gun and your possession does not require a license to buy it. Welcome to California. The law makers here have placed mandatory 10 day waiting periods on getting a gun. And you have to get a concealed carry permit (almost impossible to obtain) to take one outside of your house. I'm being a little bit loose in this part of my response. They also have a limit on how many guns you can buy in a month. I understand neither of these is in Arizonan Law. But whether you are a gun store or a range, you cannot cash-and-carry a gun in anything less than 10 days. So I think your feeling about RISR being a "no frills" shooting range is unjustly critical in that aspect of your reply.
Regarding some shot out ceiling tiles ... I don't recall ever seeing any. But all ranges are subject to bad shooters or people who disrespect property. But the A/C has always been wonderful when I've been there. Yes, RISR was something else before they totally remodeled and enforced it. If you look at everything they did in making its location it was truly incredible. And while there may be a few ranges here in California that were built "from the ground up", I do not know of any nor do I understand how that leads to it being a "no frills range". There is a range in Utah (outside of Provo) that is crazy new with every bell and whistle one can imagine and even cheaper than RISR, but it is 600 miles vs 10 miles from me. But I'll bet both of us would rate it off the chart. And yes, in Utah you can buy guns and leave the store with them on the same day. My old college buddy who lives in Provo and has been to that incredible range has done it. Range Officers at RISR appear on the firing lines at random and without warning. But as far as I know there is not one on duty for each set of lines they have. Does that make it no frills? Possibly, but not in my book
I'd sure like to read your review of the range you go to that you like. But Arizona is also a drive for me. Other than that, if you are in Southern California Riverside Indoor Shooting Range is about as good as it gets. Just make sure the next time you come to California your guns are locked and stored separately from you ammo in the trunk of you car ... as I think the biggest problem you may have with RISR is due to our obnoxious California laws. You should criticize our law makers, not our gun ranges or gun stores. You happen to live in a state that respects gun-owner rights a lot more than us on "the left coast". That said, I both appreciate and thank you for clarifying your position. (Again, what was the name of the range you like??)

I spent all but 7 of my 65 years in California. I grew up in Santa Ana. In my 20's I'd shoot at the Sheriff's range in Orange and the one in Huntington Beach. And you're right, Arizona laws are much different here in Arizona than California. But my review was based on the facility, not the gun laws. I saw the difference between RISR and mine as soon as I walked through the door. I can appreciate your passion for RISR, but to me the difference is very clear. I wish you could see Insight Firearms Shooting Center in Prescott Valley, Arizona. Check out the website. Unfortunately, there are only a few pictures. But it should give you some idea of what I'm talking about. Have a great day.

RISR a "no frills" range?? I think you may be confusing it with another. You might want to check your records.
I used to go to Riverside Magnum Range. In fact Tom Reese, the owner of RISR, used to work there sometimes as a Range attendant. But he left to establish RISR, incorporating the best of everything he had learned not only at Magnum but as a qualified gun instructor at many shooting venues.
RISR is the only 4 section indoor range I have ever seen. 3 of those 10 station sections are for guns and/or rifles and 1 is just for Archery! Regarding lighting, cleanliness (including clean well-ventilated restrooms), air conditioning, ability to rent guns, buy ammo and all sorts of targets ... they are unsurpassed by any range I have ever been to. And I see lots a guys bringing their girlfriends or wives to it! I even saw one lady having her Bachelorette Party there! Nice.
And a HUGE thing (in my opinion) is that they require new shooters to demonstrate basic hands-on gun safety to one of their Range Officers as well as taking a picture of your valid ID (like your driver's license). I don't know anyone who wants to be shooting next to someone who does not demonstrate gun safety or is anonymous. Certainly not me.
Re demonstrating gun safety, it is done very professionally and respectfully. They ask what gun(s) or rifle(s) you will be shooting and then ask to show you what they expect: always keeping the gun pointed down range, chamber open, etc. I have witnessed all sorts of first time shooters, as well as people like me who has shot a lot, learn from it.
And to a one, everyone at Riverside Indoor Shooting Range is professional, polite, and like you ... a shooting/gun enthusiast.
May I respectfully ask you to review your review again to make sure we are talking about the same place? But if there is something I am missing, let me know. RISR is anything but no frills.

I certainly didn't mean any disrespect to RISR or anyone how uses that facility. You're right about the people being very freindly. It was fun getting a chance to shoot there. And I'd go again. But you need to see the range I use. Bright and clean. Excellent lighting and ventilation. It's not a converted warehouse. It was built specifically as a gun range. A fully stocked store with guns, ammo, guns safes, gun bags, holsters, parts, clothing, and a gun smith. Back ground checks for weapons purchased are done right there on the spot. I walked out with my gun and a clean back ground check in 15 minutes. I didn't see that at RISR. A separate air conditioned class room. The training classes are conducted by the owners and the Range Safety Officers. No missing ceiling tiles in the lanes like I saw at RISR. That makes the ventilation very suspect. Mine has two separate sets of lanes. One set is usually reserved for graduates of their classes like their Concealed Weapons class and their two-day Deadly Accuracy class. Like me. And we have women in there too. In the two classes I was in, there where women who never fired a hand gun before in their life, and they all passed. And as far as safety goes, I'm right there with you. At the facility I go to, you can't even enter the range until you first watch a 10 minute safety video, no matter who you are or what qualifications you have. I didn't have to watch one at RISR. And range officers are always present in the lanes at my facility. I never saw one on the lanes at RISR. And no one asked me for my ID or asked about my qualifications to shoot. Again, no disrespect intended. But mine is worthy of an ISO certification if there is one for gun ranges. Sorry if I offended you, but my review stands as written.
Do you have availability on Nov. 10 and 11th?

I am not the owner or otherwise associated with RISR. But since you submitted your question within the last month, I gather you are asking about 2016, not 2015.
Nov 10 is a Thursday ... currently RISR opens at 11AM on Thursdays.
Nov 11, 2016 is a ... currently RISR opens at 10AM on Fridays.
Regarding getting in, I have never had a problem but I suggest you arrive a few minutes before opening time to make sure any plans you have are not impacted.
RISR has 3 indoor ranges each with 10 lanes. I like to go with my son or daughter and share a lane with them so we can watch each other shoot and compare techniques. But it is the same price for you to have your own lane. Your choice.
It's a great experience and one that I always thoroughly enjoy and makes me feel invigorated. Enjoy.
Do you rent guns,if so ,how much for maybe a .38 or 9 mill, ty

I am not the owner or otherwise associated with RISR. But I recall that they do rent guns for a reasonable price. I'm certain they have both 9MM and 38 Special as well as 40 caliber (and probably 44 Magnum).
In that regard renting a gun is an excellent way for you to try out the sport as well as get a better feeling for the type of gun you would like to buy.
You can also buy ammunition there, not necessarily as cheap as at Walmart but they don't "gouge" you for it. And it's also nice to know if you run out of your own ammo you can quickly get some more at RISR.
Enjoy. It's a fun place and make sure to look at some of the pictures (and video) of me enjoying it!
