On July 8th 2023 my family and I which we were 12 of us, 5 adults and 7 children are 1st time at the park, we were having a great time enjoyed the Zoo and the rides. We get to the last ride were my son in law and my granddaughter were going to get on, I'm not sure the name of the ride but it was a go cart that rides 2 people. Well when it was there turn to get on the girl that was in charge of the ride said my granddaughter could not get on due to her having sandals on but yet there was 3 girls ahead of them that were able to get on and they wearing sandals. The staff running the rides need to be fair with everyone that are going to ride the rides regardless of there race or need to be trained again.

We've been to this amusement park and zoo more than a dozen times and I highly recommend it for those with children 2-4 years. It's been update over the last few years. There are lots of amusement rides which that age group can ride, a giant playground, digging for dinosaur bones, farm animals, and some other zoo animals like a jaguar, crocodile, and lemurs.
I wouldn't recommend it for adults without young children. They don't have larger animals like elephants, tigers, etc and depending on the time of day you go you might not find many of the animals out much if its hot.
For those with young children plan on at least 2-3 hours on the low end. It's more a matter of how much your child can handle rather than the park having enough activities. The park gets crowded late morning, but calms down in the afternoon. Even when it's crowded though the wait times aren't really too long for most rides.
There is a fee for parking. Some further lots around Kelley Park can cost less, but it's probably not worth it since you're bringing littles and you want to spend more time in the park anyway.
I'd recommend going to the back of the park to ride the dragon train when the park opens as that ride's line can get long. For older children, the train mini roller coaster on the right side of the park can also can get pretty popular and is one of my favorites to ride even for adults.
You should verify the details, but a variety of food is sold in the park, and you can bring snacks in the park but not cooked food from a restaurant or pizza place. There are lots of places to sit for a picnic.
Really everything in the park is enjoyable.
Also nearby and free is History Park and the Japanese Tea Garden (Open but flooding has drained the water for now). Parking outside History Park is also free so you could repark after the zoo. There is also a beignet place and bubble tea places not far as well.

Way over-priced with what is offered for those visiting without children. It seems that two-thirds of the property is devoted to a playground, while the last third is the zoo. On the day my husband and I visited, several zoo exhibits were closed, so we were able to view only about a dozen animals. Not worth the high admission price and parking fee!

The zoo was charming. There was a good variety of interesting animals, and part of the zoo was more of a park, with kids' rides and climbing structures. Many of the sights have a whimsical tone. The cafe food was pretty good, and not overpriced.
The historic park is a separate venue, and worth visiting. Volunteers do a good job of reenacting the homeowners, describing the lifestyles of old. The historic structures have been gathered from various parts of San Jose and moved here. We were very pleased that they have been thus preserved.
Zoo admission was $17.25 per person, but the historic park was free. In between the two is a nice picnic ground shaded by redwoods.
We walked a lot, but felt that it was worth it!

My 15-month old LOVES THE GOATS. Right now it's all about the goats, but soon I hope we'll be enjoying some rides too. Pro tip: AVOID MIDDAY SUMMER, there is NO shade.

Came on a weekend with a toddler under one. Bought tickets online and saved time by doing so. Lots of walking and decent activities. Shortage of animals (no zebras, lions, etc.) but the live attraction makes up for it as you can pet and feed sheep. Lots of rides for the kiddos. Very clean park.

After all the major league rides available at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, this amusement park was more user-friendly for the twelve and under players. There are two parts: A park with rides and a small zoo.
The rides were great for the grandchildren although the roller coaster was tame compared to the Giant Dipper. They could even raise their arms on the downhill. There were no long waiting lines.
This combined zoo and amusement park is ideal for the pre-puberty child.

More than a year ago. My family has a membership card for this place. But the kid loves to play with the animals here, they can get close to them. There are also many interesting and dynamic games for the kids. And adults can also walk along the park. It is very cool in the summer. I highly recommend this place as it is not too big and very close to our home.

I was a member here when my son was 2 and 3 years old, this is the perfect age range for this place. There isn't much of a zoo here, just a few animals. But there are lots of toddler-friendly rides! My son loved running around with his friends (pre-pandemic, he's 4.5 yrs old now) and riding all the rides with them. Then we'd bring lunch and picnic together. We have spent HOURSSSS here! You can buy a parking permit that makes parking "free" (it pays for itself after just a few visits and you can use it at other parks!) and there is a fun bridge for the kids to run on.

Is the admission includes the rides too or the rides need to pay separately?

Basing my best guess off of this calendar of operations from their website:
Jan 1, 2017 falls on a Sunday. They are open almost every Sunday with only a couple exceptions (like Christmas). They were also not closed on Jan 1, 2016, albeit on a weekday.
That they were open last New Year's Day combined with them being open on most every Sunday, I would guess that they are in fact going to be open on New Year's Day 2017.
That said, ducka62 has the right idea. Definitely a good idea to contact them ahead of time.
