What an amazing place.
Let me first say that the place is MASSIVE....if you enter from the South gate, its a full 10 minute drive to make it to the visitors center.
As for the visitors center....its rather small, but free, and you MUST watch the 20 something minute video about the Experience of a Cadet. Afterwards, my wife and I both agreed that if we were in highschool, we'd be ready to run through a brick wall to sign up.
Out 3 kids, (ages 9-15) however, thought they would NEVER want to attend! (They yell at you so much! They are mean! They wake you up super early in a mean way! They are too strict and rude!.....American Youth in 2023: what can you do?).
Anyway, the overall campus, barracks, football stadium, visitors center, etc. was amazing.
ONE BAD THING....the legendary Chapel is still closed for renovation. So we missed out on that.

My father was in the Air Force, and we were looking forward to visiting the Academy. All the cars in front of us passed through the security gate quickly and without incident. Unfortunately, the guard at the gate, did not like the looks of my wife and I. He took our IDs and held them, and made us roll down all our windows and open our trunk so they could do a thorough inspection of our car. They held on to our IDs for several minutes while they apparently did a thorough background check. The line of cars behind us became quite long, I could not see where it ended in my rear view mirror. Finally, they gave us our IDs back and let us go. It was an unpleasant experience, and I will never return to the Academy again. Be ready for a thorough inspection if you are planning to go.
Also, the Air Force Chapel is closed until 2027. It is "boxed off" so you can't see any of it.

ich war schon einige Male in Colorado Springs und wollte Ende September 2022 erstmals die Kadetten-Kapelle auf dem Gelände der Air-Force-Academy besuchen. Mir war bekannt, dass sie zur Zeit (bis 2025) renoviert wird; was mir nicht bekannt war, dass sie für die Renovierungsarbeiten total verhüllt ist - ähnlich den Werken des Verpackungskünstlers Christo.
Nichts desto trotz bietet das Gelände der Air-Force-Academy noch weitere Sehenswürdigkeiten.

besides the tour of the academy, it is good to go to the observation area which is an overlook accessible from the highway. There are explanatory notes there as well as opportunity to view small training aircraft.

Very beautiful campus and so much to see. Attended the falcons football game and it was exciting. Very comfortable stadium.

I was only there for the game and watched a good one as both academies do perform well against each other. People were very friendly. The only thing I will say that was a black mark was the men's rest room was very disgusting. water all over the place.

They tell you the walk is not too strenuous but if you are not used to the thin air, the walk is steady uphill although the docent does stop so you can catch your breath.
Docent was very interesting and covered many aspects of the academy. I wish when I was teaching I could have visited- it was very eye opening and so very interesting.
It makes you admire the students and personnel at the academy.
The walk back to the parking lot is at your own pace and it is a little difficult, but you can take your time.
So very worth the time it takes visit.

Watching that 21 minute movie about a year in the life was eye-opening. I knew all these kids were special getting in but wow...what they have to go through to graduate. Beautiful facilities and surroundings. The chapel is under construction for a long time, but that shouldn't prevent you from coming to experience the academy. So much respect for all that have gone through here.

We stopped in on 9/11. They didn’t do anything special, which was disappointing.
They have a nice Visitor Center. It has a nice little movie, and some displays.
There are things to see around the grounds.
Unfortunately, the Chapel was covered because it was under renovation.

What I read was that it would close at the end of this year and remain closed for about 3 years. It is to be restored to it’s original splendor.😊

Never. The project has been canceled because the money was diverted to repairing Tyndall AFB in Florida from hurricane damage.

Yes, it is handicap accessible through the North end of the Chapel. There is a ramp to an elevator that can get you inside to all levels.

Prima di andare al Visitor Center. C'è abbondanza di parcheggio lì. Quindi proseguire per l'entrata dell'Accademia. L'Air Force Academy la visita è gratuita.
