Beautiful lake with stunning summer views! Couldn’t find a good hiking trail but got a mile in just touring the side of the lake.

While on our drive from Ouray to Durango, we saw the sign for this campground in San Juan National Forest and decided to take a detour to have a picnic lunch. The views of the lake were beautiful with mountains and pine trees. We couldn't have chosen a better place to stop. It was so serene there.

A pleasant enough hike IF you have Alltrails downloaded in advance, to your smartphone, so that you can detect when you drift off the trail. You need that blue dot to keep you on course, since there are multiple unmarked trail intersections, and two very sharp hairpin turns that are easy to miss (we missed both). At home, I am a trail blazer and maintainer. I assess the marking of these trails to be poor. Come prepared, and you will enjoy.

We visited Haviland Lake after a horseback ride at the Rapp Corral. The lake doesn't cost anything to go to. They have a pier and a short boat launch. We just hung out and watched birds and all the people on their paddle boats and floats. Beautiful water with gorgeous scenery surrounding the lake. Saw an Osprey flying overhead and many hummingbirds there.

We love this campground! The camp hosts are always friendly and helpful and the facilities are always clean. The grounds are beautiful and many of the sites feel secluded and somewhat private for a campground. The fishing here is usually good and the lake is a no wake lake which makes it perfect for kayaking or Stand Up Paddle boarding. There is also a lot to do in close proximity to this campground - Durango, the ski area, horseback riding, hot springs, and the drive up through Molas Pass to Silverton and Ouray is breathtaking! This is our go to spot for camping!

Enjoyed camping here; the lake is beautiful! There are hiking trails all around. Great location just outside of Durango.

Took a ride to explore, had never been here. Nice quiet lake no power boats- wish we had a raft or kayak. Lots of fishing from the banks.

This was a wonderful hike I took with my daughter when she came to visit, the scenery is breath taking and the lake is very clear. Hard road in glad we had her jeep other wise we may not have made it in.

By sharing my review of this special mountain lake I run the risk of it becoming too popular and losing much of its serenity. This lake is just the right size for beginner to intermediate paddle boarders or kayakers. Easy wide launch ramps make it easy to enjoy fun on the water immediately. The views of the surrounding Hermosa Cliffs are spectacular. A great place for motor free boating, or quiet contemplation.

You can get rv's in the area but the campground closes for the winter. No power or water in the spaces but water is available in the campground
