This is a huge park at 880 acres, with 5 lakes for fishing. After parking our car, we walked over to a kiosk that had a map of the park. In a slot was a 4-page information sheet (Spring, 2022, Newsletter) that had been a mailer. No park map, but pages 2 and 3 listed 30+ classes for kids and adults in the spring. Very diverse classes and a very impressive listing.
We walked north for about 45 minutes following the river. A couple of times we cut through to the river's edge. Heard red-winged blackbirds and saw swallows and mallards. There were tons of bikers.
We returned to the park the next day and walked south. This was a nicer/better walk, but not as much access to the river as the walk north.

I’ve been here before but not with a dog. You can take platte canyon road to the south area of this trail system (little further away from Carson. I took the loop around the larger reservoir area. It starts to left of water. There are dog bags (grab before hitting trail, hard to find any). Also have bathrooms if you need it before head out. I think it’s 1.5 miles roughly and most is dirt trail. Eventually you hook back to paved platte section. There are some gravel edges there too. Can hold snow for awhile so prepare for mud even if it seems like it’s been a week or more since snow.

Being from the Midwest and mainly rolling hills and flat gravel roads, I can't tell you how happy I was to find this gem for a morning run.
Nice fairly flat area with a lovely gravel path that is easier on the joints.

South Platte Park is a great place to take the family for a natural experience, close the city of Denver. There are great trails for walking or biking and fishing access along the Platte River. The Carson Nature Center has a native plant garden outside, a native animal exhibit inside, plus a water table to simulate how changes in water condition have shaped the geology and natural environment along the river. They also host education events for all ages. My family really enjoyed the visit.

The South Platte Park and Carson Nature Center are a great in the Denver south metro area. I like to call it our "Central Park". Just enjoying the seasonal change alone is great. The Carson Nature Center offers verious classes for kids and adult alike for nature lovers. I particularly enjoy the path, as I can ride my bike for miles in either direction.

We hadn't been to this area for many years and we forgot how nice it was. There is a paved trial along the river for what appeared to be mainly bikers. We tried to walk there because of knee problems but it wasn't very pleasant with all the bikes zipping by and not telling you that they were coming. There was also a gravel path beside the paved one for walkers. It was a little uneven at times. There was a really pleasant little outdoor cafe where we picked up the trail with outdoor seating and it served snacks and drinks. We veered off of the main trail several times to walk in the Preserve area. It has lots of trees and shrubs and the temperatures were much cooler there. We saw ducks, birds, cranes and blue herons on the walk. The Platte River was surprisingly clear too. The part of the trail we were on took us by the beautiful Hudson Gardens so that was an added bonus.

We park here in bike either south to Chatfield State Park or north to Downtown Denver. Lovely scenery and a wonderful bike path to enjoy without having to deal with traffic on a street. There are even great places to stop for coffee, lunch and dinner (some with music!) Put it on you "gotta do it" list! IT IS FREE!

Lots of trails from the Carson nature center. Today I did a 4 mile loop heading south of the nature center. Bathrooms are open even if the center isn’t. Decent parking, or can park by Panera. Mostly flat trails along the river. Might have to get shoes wet crossing the river in some spots. There are paved or gravel options.

I went on the full moon walk to see the owlets in connection with May’s full moon. The walk was lead by Ranger Victoria with about 12 participants. I liked the size of the group, the pace and length of the walk. Victoria was a wealth of knowledge and related to all ages in the group. She was very prepared and made the walk very pleasurable. The only thing missing was the full moon because of cloud cover. The owlets are adorable! Looking forward to the bat presentation in July.

We live close by to this park and nature preserve (not titled the later but you can see so much of the local flora and fauna it merits this description). Not my favorite place to fish because the access is so good everyone is already there doing so. But wonderful walking and biking through, to and from this stretch of the South Platte bikeway. We regularly ride this stretch from the town of Littleton out to Chatfield reservoir and back; grate fun and nice ride all up hill (barely except for the dam face) going south not enough hill going back that you still have to peddle.

I went here a couple weeks ago and had a great time! I was informed by a couple of people there that when you tube down the river it's easier to take two cars and park one at the end and the other in the beginning. We were also told it's about a two hour tube ride all the way through...where would be the best place to park if we wanted to go the full two hours down?

Since I ride my bike starting at the C470 trail and head up the Platte trail I see a lot of people starting from that parking lot next to C470. The best way to get there is off of Platte Canyon Road. The access road is across from Depew St and is an access for the RPM Motorsports complex. The street name is S. Platte Reservoir Access Road. Once you get on the access road, follow it to the parking lot and then walk to the river. There is a small boat ramp that allows for easy entrance to the water. Have fun, wear a life jacket, and be safe!
