Klasse Zeugnis der griechischen Hochkultur. Die Erklärungen hätten etwas ausführlicher geschrieben sein können. Es ist ein schöner Spaziergang zu den Ausgrabungen und ein klasse Blick über die Umgebung. Schade das es kein Café vor Ort gab.

There are not many ancient sites to visit in this part of Greece and it is definitely worth spending a few hours away from the beaches to visit Ancient Olynthos. It is well signposted and there is a car park. Entrance costs 4 euros (well worth it). The leaflet you get on entering gives a lot of information, as does the exhibition on the way to the actual site. Both are in Greek and English. Reading them means that the site makes more sense. Although none of the artefacts that were found here can be seen on site (they are in museums elsewhere) the reconstruction of remains of the walls of buildings is very atmospheric. Thre are a couple of mosaics to see, though. You get a sense of how well planned and organised this town was in the 5th century BC. and you really get a feel for how the buildings were used. Only a fraction of the city has been excavated but even so it is much bigger than I was anticipating. Am amazing piece of history - an in a stunning location.

If you are a history buff this place is worth it in more ways than one.
It’s quite a walk from where you park the car.
And it can be really hot. But in September with the wind in t was doable.
Amazing views on top. But what’s so wondrous is the feel of history and seeing the ruins of the place. You get a feeling and views of f how it was centuries ago.
Later in de n I visited the Thessaloniki museum and than it mentions the history of the place and why Olynthos was finally destroyed. And than you realized you were actually able to walk there yourself. Amazing.
Highly recommended if you are a history buff and love to take pictures

Nadat we in de buurt waren en ons hadden ingelezen over deze bezienswaardigheid hebben we besloten om hier een kijkje te gaan nemen. De entree is 4€,- per persoon, je krijgt hier een informatie boekje mee om het een ander zelf te bestuderen. Vanaf de parkeerplaats is het ca. 15 minuten lopen naar de bezienswaardigheid. Het is erg indrukwekkend om te zien hoe de mensen destijds hebben gewoond!

Das Museum ist zwecks Corona aktuell geschlossen, aber für 4 Euro pro Erwachsener kann man zu den Ausgrabungen. Nett zu sehen, aber nicht weiter spektakulär.

Très beau site, bien entretenu, qui se mérite ! Par contre documentation fournie pauvre (se documenter avant pour profiter pleinement)

Well worth paying a visit. This place could do with a little more promotion. Only ten percent of the site has been excavated but what has been is fascinating.
Some of the info boards are faded but the main one is in the shade, there was a chap at the top who was extremely knowledgeable regarding the history of Ancient Olynthos, it would seem he did this voluntarily....Thank you
Only four euro to get in, it's a short walk up to the top but can get hot so take a drink, a nice small Museum close to the entrance.

Je hoeft er geen uur voor om te rijden, maar als je in de buurt bent of in de buurt van Polygyros, Kalives of Gerakini logeert dan moet je hier eens naartoe. Verspreid over 2 afgeplatte heuvels werd namelijk ongeveer een tiende van een antieke stad blootgelegd, waarbij het rechtlijnige stratenplan en enkele mooie mozaiëk vloeren te zien zijn. Het is best een mooie plek, maar het is vooral de gids daar die je vanonder een afdakje zo enthousiast uitlegt verschaft over de geschiedenis van deze plek dat je alleen maar zin krijgt om op verkenning te gaan. Tijdens de korte wandeling ernaartoe zagen we ook nog verschillende landschildpadden, wat leuk meegenomen is als je met kinderen gaat. Leuk uitstapje...

Ένα μνημείο που έπρεπε να διδάσκει τους σημερινούς αρχιτέκτονες, μηχανικούς, συγκοινωνιολόγους, διακοσμητές, αφημένο στη μοίρα του. Ό,τι έκανε η Αμερικανική Αρχαιολογική Σχολή και τέλος. Εντούτοις αξίζουν πολλά συγχαρητήρια στους υπαλλήλους που μοχθούν με πενιχρά μέσα (χωρίς φυλλάδια ή άλλο ενημερωτικό υλικό) να κατατοπίσουν τους επισκέπτες, με χιούμορ αλλά αρκετές γνώσεις. Μα για άλλη μια φορά το κράτος/υπουργείο εντυπωσιάζει με την εμφατική του απουσία. Ένας χώρος "αφιλόξενος" στους επισκέπτες, με κοντά 800 μέτρα περπάτημα σε χωματόδρομο και μάλιστα από τη μέση και μετά ανηφορικό, χωρίς πρόβλεψη για ΑΜΕΑ και αρκετά ακόμα προβλήματα που χρειάζεται χρόνος για να αναπτυχθούν. Εξοπλιστείτε με νερό και καπέλα και καλή "απόλαυση"!!!

Beim Eingang wird man total nett empfangen, es wird einem der Weg erklärt (800m Pfad) und gefragt ob man genügend Wasser dabei hat. Oben wird man vom Kollegen (der wunderbar Deutsch spricht) empfangen und alles Wissenswerte spannend erklärt.
