As you drive up to the large home that houses the Spa you feel a sense of calm. There is ample space around it and plenty of parking. You will be greeted by a friendly receptionist in the foyer.
They are taking necessary precautions during Covid and I feel they are making every effort to keep their staff and clientele safe. All the linens are changed after every massage and the therapist changes their shirt. There is a filter running in the room. Masks stay on unless you want to take it off when you are face down. Face up, it must be on.
I had a therapeutic massage with Chris. This was my first massage in a year and he worked hard to relieve the stress in my back and neck. He released trigger points and I now have further range if motion. His communication skills are excellent so it was a pleasure having him work on me.
Since I am not from the neighborhood I cannot say if the $110 they charge for the hour is a typical price. I can only say it was worth it to me and I will return when we come back to this area.
Tip: if you are not going for a massage because you are concerned about being in a closed room, book the couples room, it has a window. If I had known, I would have booked it.

Went for a couples massage. Thought we would be in the same room but we were not. Maybe it’s to help you relax more. I was okay with it. Super clean and relaxed atmosphere. Bathroom and shower has everything you need. Offer complimentary item with purchase of certain massage so made my decision on which one to choose easier. Will go again. Next time I will try a deep tissue massage.

The Spa of Essex has a new facial coming to their spa menu. The Jurlique Revitalizing Facial is a sensory affair. Facials, by definition, are a deep cleansing and moisturizing of your face. The Jurlique facial will let you experience a natural wholesome treatment using delectable new products. In a time where a quiet hour away from the world of ugly is rare, this facial is a perfect contrast of unique peace. There are some lovely touches above and beyond the routine cleansing, masking, moisturizing, and replenishing of your skin, but I will leave them a secret because they are bright little enhancements. It has been a long time since I felt so thoroughly pampered. There are a lot of lovely floral undertones that float around and surround you with calm, and you will feel the effects long after you walk back into the real world. Take advantage of the Relaxation Room after your facial. Hold onto the luxury as long as you can! Thanks, DeAnne! Can't wait for the next time!

I had the pleasure of getting a sneak preview of next month's special facial last week. In March The Spa of Essex will be featuring a special Celluma facial and I suggest you book ahead for this wonderful experience. DeAnne always gives a relaxing and customized facial, but this new feature took it to a new level. The Spa of Essex is continually blazing the trail when it comes to new skincare. Celluma is one of the new treatment options on the Spa Menu. Celluma works with light energy to help fight the bacteria that causes acne. It reduces the appearance of wrinkles and improves skin firmness. It's also available as an option to help alleviate pain. My facial included the Celluma treatment to counteract some of the signs of aging that have occurred in my 58 years on this earth. Take advantage of this special in March - or just make Celluma a part of your routine Spa care.

I’m not one to put up a negative review because I believe in expressing concerns to management & allowing them to make a resolution (if needed). Well, when employees won’t let you talk Hi to management that is a big red flag.
My experience today was underwhelming to say the least. I am 9 months pregnant & with the 30 pound weight gain wanted nothing more than to have my feet pampered with a pedicure. I was greeted in a warm way when I walked in so I was excited for my experience to follow but the excitement ended pretty quickly. My technician seemed like a very sweet girl but it was clear she didn’t want to be there. She asked me no questions on what I was looking for & offered no assistance getting in or out of the pedicure chair even while carrying shoes, a purse & a glass of water. I was most looking forward to the massage but when the massage part came it lasted a minute & half per leg & was so light I thought maybe it wasn’t the massage. The polish is completely sloppy & all over my cuticles & skin. She showed me to the relaxation room for my nails to dry & then walked out of the room-saying nothing. Then when I went to check out, the receptionist asked nothing of my service & then overcharged by $10. She also did not say thank you. For a high end spa I was expecting a much more grand experience. $70 for a mediocre pedicure & terrible customer service = no thank you. I am a spa professional myself so this was an eye opener.

I have no doubt from other reviews that the Spa of Essex is very nice. Sadly, my experience was upsetting.
I made a massage reservation for two for 90 minutes by phone for my husband and I (hubby's 60th birthday). On the phone, the employee never informed me of the spa's cancellation policy. The day before we left for our weekend in Haddam, my husband complained to me that his back was bothering him a bit (he has back issues from time to time).
The day before our massage (and once we had arrived in Haddam), I surprised him with an itinerary for his birthday. Sadly, he felt that he shouldn't go for the massage, so I immediately called the Spa. I was informed that there was a 24 hr. cancellation policy. Any service cancelled within that time would incur a 50% charge to the credit card on file. I actually called 18 hrs. before our scheduled appointment to cancel.
I was SO disappointed, as the women that initially scheduled the appointment over the phone did not inform me of this policy. In addition, I never received a call the day before to remind me of the appointment either.
The owner suggested that I, at least, come in for my massage without my husband. That was the option I was offered. I don't think she understood that this celebratory day was for my husband, not me, and I did not wish to go without him.
I understand business owners have policies they feel they need to adhere to. I am a business owner myself. Yet, it would have been nice if she showed a little compassion to this situation. And honestly, I feel 50% was a bit steep.

The Spa was recommended to me from the Inn at harbor Hill in Niantic . I felt they could not steer me wrong since that was an excellent place The waiting room and treatment room was quiet soothing and relaxing . The spa experience with Nicole was great

This spa has something special. The prices are competitive and the location is peaceful. Perhaps the most amazing part of this spa is the access to the Relaxation lounge, steam room, and sauna with any service. The relaxation room is where I like to spend another 30-40 minutes after my service relaxing in a big comfy with a soft blanket on top of me and a glass of water. I can fall asleep there until I'm ready to get going. The staff encourages you to spend time in there after your service to completely relax before you leave the spa. Each staff member I have had work on me is so nice and very professional. I highly recommend this spa if you are in the area looking for something relaxing to do!!

What an amazing day way to spend an afternoon. I can't say enough how impressed I was with our treatment at the spa of Essex. From the moment we walked in and Deanna greeted us, until we left the spa relaxed and rejuvenated, we had a first class experience. Our robes and slippers were super comfy, and we took full of advantage of the steam room and the sauna before getting an amazing hot stone massage. The relaxation room had a comfy chair big enough for two, and the shower facilities were well appointed as well. Everything from the quality of the massage to the hot tea and little snacks available between steam and sauna made for an amazing day at this spa. I highly recommend the Spa of Essex to anyone looking to get away and be pampered by some really talented and genuinely nice people.

My best friend and I come here as often as we can. The services are wonderful and the best part of this facility is the relaxation room! Also during the Summer it is also nice to go outside and enjoy the gazebo. Great service and we always leave feeling fantastic!
