Beides zusammen ergibt hier in Middletown ein besonders schönes Naherholungsgebiet. Ganzjährig bei Sportlern, Spaziergängern und Anglern beliebt bietet der Harbor Park im Sommer schattige Wiesen, Tische und Bänke zum Relaxen und Picknicken.
Das Parkgelände mit seinem gepflegten Boardwalk liegt unmittelbar am Connecticut River und bietet von überall aus einen einmaligen Blick auf den Fluß. Gebührenfreie Parkplätze und Waschräume stehen zur Verfügung.
Besonderes Highlight für US-Car Liebhaber: In den Sommermonaten kann man an verschiedenen Sonntagen die schönsten Klassiker und Hot-Rods bewundern, wenn sich die Besitzer zum 'Cruise-In' bei passender Musik aus den 50's im Schatten des Parks beim gemeinsamen Ausflug treffen.

I recently revisited this place after several years. There is good news and bad news.
The good news: In spite of the city's Common Council having authorized the mayor to contract with sculptor Pe-ter Lun-db-erg to place sculptures in the city, in addition to the one he already had here at Harbor Park, no additional sculptures of his have been placed here. I am quite sure none of his sculptures have been placed anywhere else in Middletown. Let's just say, I don't see how I could not have been aware of it if they had been.
The bad news: The sculpture of his that was here before is still here! This bulbous blob of concrete wedged up against a brace of steel (see photo). It is utterly out of place in this riverside landscape; it blocks out the scenery and breaks people's minds.
I strongly urge all residents of Middletown to petition their city government to get this hunk of junk out of here!

This is such a pretty park with a boardwalk, clean bathrooms and lots of places to sit in the shade. Parking was tight mid-afternoon. I can't wait to go back.

Great view of Connecticut River bend. Park provides a good stroll and occasional events and activities. Winter ice skating available.

Took a beautiful stroll along the Harbor, there is a restaurant on the Harbor if you would like to grab a bite or you can pack your on lunch and have a seat in the pavilion with the picnic tables and enjoy the view

Harbor park has a great view of the Connecticut River. The park is right on the river and you can watch the sun set over the Arigoni Bridge. It is breathtaking!

Stop at the small park before the boathouses and walk along the river. Go past the Wesleyan and Middletown boathouses along the Connecticut River. The boardwalk goes behind the restaurant and keep walking at the waterfront. Great vista south. Some benches or stop and watch the boats. Great for a sunny day.

Harbor Park is a lovely spot to visit in the summer months. It is located right.on the Connecticut River. There are benches and swings to sit on and enjoy a nice spring or summer breeze. It is a nice walk from downtown Middletown where a tunnel under the highway takes you to the park without having to cross the busy roadway. I have also walked down in the fall when the trees are turning colors. A little too cold for winter walking. A safe daytime place to visit.

Why Middletown ever cut itself off from the stunning Connecticut River by allowing Route 9 to be built is beyond comprehension. This little park is small, and there is not much there, but to walk along the beautiful river is relaxing and wonderful.

The Canoe Club is the main attraction at Harbour Park. I've resided in Middletown for a decade. Harbour Park has appeared to weather well, although one wonders WHETHER the town has ever viewed it from a highly ecological point of view. It seems maintained on a continual basis which entails spraying and mowing as is every property in the area. Dependence on the season, the temperature of the day, and whether the stars are in proper alignment, is key. On the occasion there are odours. If an area dumpster or canister is overflowing on a warm day, there can be stagnation. I've also experienced strong gaseous odours from the water drain area, although I don't know that this remains a problems still. Unpleasant. Last year, the Mayor chose to create an activity for all by taking over a significant portion of the area near the public restrooms. It broke my heart. Don't know that it proved successful but it was disassembled for the summer. Any removal of trees and bushes creates a field day for all the car exhaust which passes over on Route 9 North. These vehicles idle at a light by the underground tunnel [which connects to the town's center]. No one wants to breathe in an excess of fumes whist enjoying a walk in the park. There is a lovely view of Portland and the Arigoni Bridge and on a clear day one can enjoy passing boats as well as the view while seated on one of two double seated wooden swings. These were added to the park about three years ago. A truly nice old-fashioned, if not short, boardwalk morphs into cement on either sides of the park. Anchored by a tiny carpark at one end, is Lady Katherine, a paddle wheeled riverboat which offers a variety of CT RIVER cruises, depending on the season and those who rent it for special occasions. Located in the middle of all is a restaurant, The Mattabessett Canoe Club, with gorgeous views of the CT River. Its been redone in recent years, and the outdoor patios [upper and lower] are a crowd-pleaser. Attending an evening charitable fund raiser months ago, I was thrilled by the grand show as harbour lights filled the night's view. Gas firepits ablaze, it was a singularly unique Middletown experience. Towards the park's most southerly end is the Boathouse. This houses river craft for Wesleyan University competitors as well as the local HS teams. Watching young people row crew is lots of fun too. I've actually seen a few sunbathers lounging on their own chairs this past week. Good for them. The park ends at a newly constructed gazebo which is not as charming as its predecessor but such is life and contract visions. All in all, this park has always had remarkable potential which remains yet to be. Think about a magnificent BOTANICAL GARDEN featuring all forms of grassy sea plants as well as beautiful ornamental flowers/bushes. Think about a small glass bottom boat to take visitors around the harbour. The township seems ill-inclined to envision floral/fauna as an asset. Yes it requires some expense, significant tender loving care, let alone monitoring and protection. Its always been a major disappointment to me as if the mature trees remain stalwarts, while BEAUTIFICATION is never an option. [The former water treatment plant was decommissioned about eight years ago. Thank goodness, as the odours were often unbearable.] So we must inquire of Middletown. IS THIS THE BEST WE CAN DO WITH THE RIVER MARK TWAIN ADORED? And PS. On my most recent walk, I was bombarded by the noxious fumes coming from a 'town' pickup landscape/maintenance vehicle. This seemed highly ironic.
