Great family ski area close to coastal CT

Mt Southington is a perfect family starter ski area close to coastal CT

My family and I have season passes and enjoy all the facilities!!
The strong points are: staff attentive and have a good attitude, ski instructor have a good attitude which makes for a fun "first time experience" Snow making and grooming it top notch, night lighting is good, clean bathrooms, two food areas with typical junk food- comfort food for cold days, good parking, many ski patrol and safety personal.
The negatives: Friday nights - typical teenage hangout, long lines on busy weekends, only 35 miles from coast so slopes can be icy due to milder climate.
In conclusion we love MT Southington and all it has to offer It is a 35 minute ride from our home and we take full advantage of that!! In the middle of the hot summer it all we talk about!!

Booking nightmare

I booked online and the receipt email didn't match the date or even what I booked (I booked night time w/o rentals and got charged day time with rentals ). The day was even wrong. I was booking for weeks out and it booked it for the next day. When I called the staff that answered was rude and said there are no cancellations/rescheduling for any reason. I booked night time skiing for two @ $70 and ended up getting charged $180 with nothing to show for it. When I emailed customer service I got no response after several emails. The worst customer service I have ever received.

Just Not Enough for the Cost

I wish I could give Mt. Southington a better rating but I just can’t. First, the prices for what you get are ridiculous. Mohawk Mtn. has more terrain, less lines, and the night price is about $10-12 less. Secondly, their rental equipment is very dated. Time to upgrade. Thirdly, the upstairs eating area was disgusting (tonight). There was food, bottles, and wrappers all over the floor. Mgmt should be ashamed. Grab some of the high school kids lounge around and have them clean up. Fourthly, the lines the lines the lines. Lots of them. The dated lifts aren’t the most comfortable either.

A plus was the variety of terrain vs what I usually ski, which is Mohawk. The terrain park was great and they have a small little mogul section, which is a plus. The food prices vs some other ski areas were very competitive.

While I would love to score because I know they try hard but I just can’t go higher. Very good mountain if you are a true beginner.

One of the best mountains to ski in CT. The employees are all helpful and nice. They're always making snow through-out the season.

I love these old, small ski resorts that exist because the owners love to ski. This places loves the customers like a grandpa loves the grandkids. Warm, comfortable, and smells a little. These are the places that breed skiers. The places that create those who visit the mega resorts while there heart is at home. Skiing was interesting, transitioning as you move downhill from the forest into more open slopes. The lifts ran well enough and the price is low.

Excellent place especially for a beginner.

I went with the family and we took a lesson there. Heather, the instructor, was excellent and so attuned to the student's needs. She also made the whole experience fun and exciting. The staff, in general, were pleasant and courteous. The place was really well-groomed and despite the relatively warm weather the snow was excellent to ski on. The whole family had a great experience and I'll definitely return.

George is awesome!

Friday nights in January - lots of school groups. Chaperones in the lodge and on the slopes - kids well behaved. George, in the rental lodge, very fun and helpful toward me and my daughter. He ran back to get a different size boot for my daughter with a smile on his face - happy to help. Love this place.

Today was my first visit to the mountain as some friends wanted to try snow boarding and online passes for 8 hour lift ticket and rentals was only $70.

The staff were friendly both in both getting our tickets and the rentals. Rental equipment was in good condition. Trail grooming was also good with mostly good conditions mountain-wide and very little ice.

Food was about average for a ski resort with the usual faire of burgers, fries, chicken tenders, and soup.
