The best Fort Tour Yet, and we have gone to so many. It's very interesting and informative. They fire a huge cannon during the tour. Next to the fort is beautiful beach access. Lots of canons and military equipment outside too. Do not miss the indoor tour. Bring Bikes. Cape Henlopen Park has magnificent beautiful stamped pepple bike trail where you will go through swampy eco areas and see lots of water fowl.

Well organized informative tour, explaining how the Delaware shores were protected by the Army during WW2. Tour guide Mike was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I highly recommended this tour.

We really enjoyed our visit here. It was a nice walk with a good amount of stuff to look at inside and out. After leaving, I found out my dad was here when he was in the Army. That ended up making it extra special.

Since I was biking through here early in the morning, I only saw a small part of it. Overall it seemed like a nice area to explore WW2 history.

this place shows the history of the military protecting the Delaware Areas. They have 12 inch gun that could send a projectile all the way to New Jersey that moves up and down. You can hear and feel what it was like when the gun is fired for you. Every Thursday during the summer they fire the 3 inch gun at 12:30 . inside the museum there is a piece of the battleship Arizona I along with big screen TV's showing the actual battle. There are lots of displays demonstrations showing what life was like in the underground bunkers during WWII the views of the ocean are wonderful from bunker 519. If you ever wondered about the cement towers along the coast you can see what they looked like and here how the worked in side the fort.

This tour is so informative and fascinating in how much they show you. We went through every room from plotting defence and attacks, to the giant canon that they similate the shooting at the end of the tour

This is just another case when you think why this stupid system does not allow a ZERO score. Someone should look into how much bribery the park superintendent or the program coordinate took for the event on 9/25/2021 to allow the exclusive insanitary food cart to conduct business in the park.
So, on the event day, the parking lot is 5-minute shuttle away from the historical area. Just outside of the historical area, in the now staff-and-vendor-only parking lot, there is this food cart.
A relatively minor issue is a 5-minute wait on a burger evolved to a half-hour wait.
A huge issue is that the woman in the cart handles money and food with the same gloves. Did she wear gloves to protect herself from getting the hands dirty by the hot dogs?

This has been a place that I have wanted to visit for a very long time. I took the guided tour which was quite informative. I was amazed at the quality of work the volunteers have done here and what they have been able to assemble to recreate this WWII war-time fort. This was a monumental fortress that was run as a well oiled machine. The level of detail that was involved in some of the rooms was just quite impressive. I will have to tour the rest of the facilities in the near future. I was happy to sign the guest book and quite certain the small donation that I left will be used to good purpose to further develop this museum for future visitors.
I just wished that we lived in a world that would not have needed to spend the millions of dollars that they did to build it in the first place and to pay the many soldiers who defended our coast from an enemy nation.

When my brother and family visited us my 13 year old nephew, Aidan, wanted to do something that involved history. My 1st thought was.. FORT MILES in Cape Henlopen State Park. We visited the museum and participated in the tour which was led by a very knowledgeable young man in costume! Was able to climb up a Battery Tower and the view was incredible! Could see Lewes and Rehoboth Beach and I can see how these towers were effective for Fort Miles participation in WWII. Walked grounds to see barracks and guns. Very enjoyable, especially if you are into places and events during WWII.

As far as I know, the only place dogs are not allowed is on the beach during summer time.

You enter the park by car and the cost is by carload. $10 out of state $5 in state. There are no restaurants in the park but many in the town of Lewes. It is a great place to hike, bike or camp but bring you lunch or food.

The only admission is to enter Cape Henlopen State Park which is $5 for DE residents and $10 for non-residents. I believe admission is free in the winter. The best time to visit Fort Miles is for an enactment weekend. Check the Fort Miles website for dates and details.
