This beach was larger than nearby Rehoboth but because it's on the Delaware bay and not the ocean there are no waves. Parking was limited.

Scenic Coastal Bay Town

Super fun coastal Delaware Bay town chock full of history (Colonial thru WWII). Great walking town with shop and plenty of great restaurants. Young and old will enjoy historic Lewes Delaware.

Just a quick stop to walk down to the water. Since they charge to park in the lot-one of our group just stayed in the car while we went down to the water.
We visited in mid-week, mid-September, so off-season. It was a beautiful 80 degree no humidity day-so it was beautiful.

We decided to go to this beach because time was limited, traffic was heavy and we were under the impression it was a free beach. No one mentioned the very high rates to park and the uncooperative parking meters that overcharged me by a lot. This is on the bay side of Lewes, so it's really not a 'walking' beach, which is what we wanted. It's actually very hard to walk on. Probably good for swimming. Also for all that price to park, could not find a single foot wash. Will not return.

Amazing bay beach

Lovely small beach. You have to pay to park. You must use your license plate in a central meter which takes coins,credit card or pay mobile app. They are serious about paying! This is how they get revenue for the town so don't forget to pay. Ok enough of that. The ocean is the bay. No waves so it is perfect for small children to play. The sand is pretty easy to walk on and they do have mats to assist people who have gait issues. The bathrooms,showers were fairly clean. They also have a small concessions stand. Prices were average for the area. We had a lovely day at the beach with a constant breeze. We will return!

This area never disappoints. We visit nearly every year. Lewes Beach is our favorite spot to catch the sunset and watch the moon rising behind us. Fantastic views.

Stop by Lewes Beach on Delaware Bay to see the Cape May - Lewes ferry shuttling back and forth hourly to New Jersey and Delaware. The view are scenic and swimming in the Delaware Bay is calm and great for younger children (little wav action). Have fun.

Poor Introduction to Such a Lovely Town

We were in town for the Lewes Garden Tour and decided to check out the local beach the first afternoon of our three day visit. Be warned: You must know your license plate number before feeding the parking meter. My husband tried to cancel the transaction so he could go back to the car and get the plate number but he had already put in the credit card while accidentally keying XX. Knowing this was the incorrect plate information, he hit cancel but the deal had been sealed and the receipt of payment was issued. We stayed an hour only to find a $30 ticket upon our return. So the next morning we went to the police station with our $5 receipt and presented our story to two members of the parking authority and their assistant. After some discussion of the incident, they lowered the fine to $10 charging us for inaccurately communicating our license plate number to the parking lot kiosk. Too unbelievable! So we paid $15 for a one hour stay on a beach...and many, many hundreds of dollars for a three day visit to this charming town on the bay. It's really quite unfortunate that the entire response we received from the Lewes Parking Authority stands out foremost in our minds. Some advice from these law abiding senior citizens: memorize your license plate numbers if visiting from out of state.

Bay Beach...perfect for families with little kids...NO waves

We visited this beach multiple times throughout the summer of 2021. We had some great visits. Lifeguards are on duty Memorial Day through Labor Day.

On a low tide day, we played on the little islands that formed. Here we found lots of sea creatures: clams, conchs, hermit crabs, calico crabs, etc. It was a beautiful day with no waves. On a high tide day, we had no islands, but the water was deeper so the kids could play in the slightly deeper water and build sand castles on the beach. On each trip, we collected sea shells along the shoreline. You will find lots of little shells (clam, scallops, lady slippers, etc). Sand is soft. You also get a great view of the ferry cruising in and out of port from this beach.

Overall, we enjoyed our visits with Lewes Beach. This is a bay beach, so it has little to no waves. Even on the day when a major storm was brewing, the waves were minimal. It is safe for families with small children. There are 2 parking lots for this beach. BOTH are metered. Pay rate is about $2 per hour, which can be done using the ParkMobile app or by using a credit card at the central meter. There is one bath house and 2 sets of restrooms. There are sprinklers to rinse off in outside by the flush toilet buildings. There is a Lions Club Snack shack at the edge of the parking lot in addition to a DQ within walking distance should you get hungry or thirsty! I would recommend IF you want a beach for laying out or with little to NO waves. IF you want to boogie board...this is NOT the beach for you.
