What is wrong with Daytona Beach ? Every time it rains this dog park is closed for 3 months or more ! Just reopened after 2 years closed and now CLOSED AGAIN !! It's just a dog park, no other services are needed. Rest room don't need to be open, no electricity required. What's wrong with you people. Now CLOSED until January 15, 2020.

This pet-friendly park is absolutely great! While there is no parking lot specifically for the Island, you'll find plenty of 2-hour parking on the street near the entrance to the walking bridge. There is a loop walkway around the island, with a small amphitheater, a playground, & restrooms outside the dog park. The dog park itself is a fully fenced, off-leash area where pups can play without worry. Unfortunately, the pups have no access to the river, but fresh water is available for drinking. There's plenty of room for fetching & tussling! I was completely surprised that no other dogs were there during either of our two visits. Thank you, City of Daytona Beach, for creating and maintaining such a nice facility for our four-legged family members.

Same now as the rest of the world its the start of the face of Daytona Suburbia across from the Glitz of the beach area, right next to the Halifax river beautiful tree lined area but does get its share of people that find themselves in a position of needing help, the area is one of Daytona's older neighborhoods but still needs to be seen as part of how Florida came to modern day fruition, this is not an area to be avoided it gives a good view of not too far distant past living.

Been closed sine October of 2017, supposedly because of Hurricane damage. It's an island you walk on it,how can wind and rain damage shut it down for so long. It's totally BOGUS !!! Volusia County GET THIS PARK RE-OPENED!!! Signs say under repair, yet we go by it every day, NOTHING being done!! It's a total BS LIE, nothing is being done. Fire all county leaders involved and re-open this site NOW!!!

It's a Beautiful location. Relatively Clean. I would recommend nature lovers to Bring extra garbage bags and do our part as Citizens of Planet Earth to keep it clean and yes pick up the slack and garbage of the Clueless. Pick up your share of garbage and a little extra before you leave so worth it. The only thing I would have enjoyed more was not having to worry about a leash law because of the clueless.

We enjoy visiting this island when in Daytona. It provides a nice walk around the whole island with a great view of the river and the "backside" of Daytona Beach boardwalk area. The playground is great, my kids love pretending at teh outdoor amphitheatre. Bathrooms and an adult fitness station area make this a place I think everyone in teh Beach Street area should check out. While it appeared there may be a homeless person(s) living on the island, we saw 1 sleeping bag, I didn't feel unsafe and visit alone with my children as well as with my husband.

The park is near restaurants and shopping. You have a view of the Halifax river. If you have just eaten and need a bit of a stroll or need a spot for the children or dog to burn off a little energy, this park will do the trick. There is a historic building at the opening of the park but it was locked when we arrived at 5:00pm.

TIP - As I was told from locals just walk your dog outside this park. "You never know what type and how many homeless are in the park. Rarely are there any dogs inside".
We were in Daytona for the day and needed a place to take the dog out. This has the only dog park I found in Daytona Beach. I was quite disappointed when I got there (around 9:30AM). There were 3 dog areas (little dogs, big dogs, and bad dogs) in addition to the rest of the park area. When I got there we were the only ones with a dog but there were 4 homeless milling around. Clearly the homeless use this facility more than the dogs. There was a bar of soap on the edge of the dog drinking bowl. The park looked totally uncared for. Just look at the two pictures. One is representative of the general state of the grounds, the second is of an outdoor event space. You can see the level of growth covering the seating around the amphitheater. The final picture is of a homeless person sleeping under a picnic space.

This place was beautiful to walk around until we seen around 10 homeless people hanging out staring at us. This island had an awesome park tlmy daughter was begging me to play at. No way was I going to let daughter play at a park surrounded by homeless people with no kids hanging around letting their clothing dry out on the playground equipment. We warned the next couple on our way out and they got back in their car with their 2 young children and left. This place would be great if we didn't feel like we were being watched the whole time.

As long as you do not expect to actually see any manatees you will not be disappointed.
Only issue I had was the homeless person camped out at the walking bridge, which you have to cross to get in an out - Daytona PD please take notice.
