We had a very relaxing day of Pontoon boating. We had a group of 9 and had lots of room for us all and several coolers. After a solid 1/2 day of boating (we went very slow) the “refill” charge was very low. (<$10)! The boat was very old. Circa 1980. So go for the fun, not the glamour.

I rented their 60' house boat for three days, most of the gauges on the flybridge including the depth finder did not work. The boat was equipped with plastic props that would break a blade if they touched anything, I even brake a blade under heavy throttle a-stern while docking in a strong wind. These so called "composite props" cost me over $500 and a days use of the boat and are a money maker for the marina and they know it. When I told them their plastic props caused me all these problems I was treated rudely and ignored. The boat was poorly maintained and had many other problems, I would recommend you take your business elsewhere.

This was the first time we had rented pontoon boats in Florida, the rental team were helpful, outlined a route, gave us a useful map, told us where to find our boat and where to load it.
Once ready to move they gave us some basic driving instructions and away we went.

Loved it so much want to do this again. Not recommended for high holidays because of boat traffic. Good thorough instructions and prep lists. Lots and gators so do not expect to swim!

If you love wildlife, fishing and water this is the trip for you!
We spent a week on the st Johns river on a house boat we rented from Holly Bluff Marina.
The staff were wonderful. The boat was clean and had everything we needed . Stove , fridge, microwave, 3 bedrooms .Even a tv .
We were given a quick lesson on maneuvering the boat and off we went on the river . First place we moored a manatee hung around our boat and played with our anchor rope it was amazing.
We spent a week on the st Johns river on a house boat we rented from Holly Bluff Marina.

Two of us rented the 38’ Catfish Bend for week around Christmas 2021. It was an absolutely fabulous experience. The boat had quality kitchen furnishings and the decor was superb….nautical theme and driftwood-look vinyl plank flooring. The office and dock staff were very friendly and helpful. Numerous Facebook friends indicate they woukd like to do the same trip. One is planning it currently. Wildlife cooperated nicely for photographing…….especially the manatees. Excellent excursion.😁

This business is TERRIBLE! Rented a roach invested houseboat for a full week. 20+ roaches and not a SINGLE apology from anyone anyone at the marina. Not the apathetic woman at the front desk who was very RUDE. Every concern was met with excuses or casual dismissal. They indicated they had sprayed for roaches and the smell was so bad they had to wash it down again. That smell was with us the whole trip. They scammed a ‘service visit’ to fix something that could’ve been addressed at the marina. The maps of where to camp were marked incorrectly and as a result the prop blade was damaged. Again, NOT A SINGLE “we are sorry, or what can we do to make this right with our customer. The grill was so caked with grease and food from prior tenants that it nearly caught the propane take hose the grease fire out the bottom. Understanding what a customer says about the trip and having no empathy is ridiculous. For $400 - night we would not have stayed in a roach 🪳 infested hotel. We took good care of the boat and if it weren’t for renting from Holly Bluff it would’ve been an even more lovely time on the St John’s River.

First the Bad:
#1 Five months prior to the date of a weekend trip for our family of 7, we paid a deposit of $500 and requested the 60' 10 person Sleeper. Upon check-in at 1:00 pm, for our trip, we find out the staff has us on a 52' 6 person sleeper instead of the 60' boat, claiming the 60' had already been reserved. They said, we had purchased a $500 gift certificate - not a reservation for the 10 person sleeper.
#2 The sleeper sofa was filthy with a mattress made of springs covered by a flimsy piece of material. It looked like a piece of trash found next to a dumpster.
#3 We waited at the dock 2.5 hours as we watched the 60' boat we thought we'd reserved (and 2 or 3 others who checked in after we did) go through their orientations and leave the Marina. The dock master was thorough with his orientation on operating the boat, however a lot of information to absorb in a very short time. Because is was getting so late in the day, we opted not to have him take us out for a "test drive."
#4 When returning to the Marina, the staff added a fee claiming the prop was damaged, even though we had purchased their Damage Waiver coverage. We questioned the charge, asking to see the damaged prop and proof the prop wasn't damaged prior to our trip. They claimed they change the props before every trip. Really?!
Now for the Good: The scenery and wildlife on the St. Johns River is a treasure of nature to behold. Silver Glen did not disappoint, lots of fun family and friend time.
Advise: Make certain to get all communication with the Marina staff confirmed in writing as their business code is, "They are always right - and the customer is always wrong."

We traded here through RCI and had a great Christmas week.
First the bad:
There is a $900 fee but it is worth it, you will also be charged for gas, $300 for us. We were charged $185 for replacing an impeller that failed on the generator. (I feel this is a wear part on their equipment and we should not have to pay for repairing it)
Now the good:
The House Boat was spacious and there is a lot of storage. The kitchen had everything you need to prep and cook for the week, and with the grill we had great food the whole trip. Two seperate staterooms give ample private space and although the beds are full size and felt small to us, used to king, but they each were a different firmness which allowed some choice. Although the boat is pretty easy to pilot you will need to adapt to it.
We spent the first night in the dead end river just South of the marina. Tied to shore it was a very pleasant night and there was plenty of wildlife and no other people around. In the morning the blue springs tours started coming around so we headed north. We spent the second night tied in a private spot that left us a very short hop to the springs.
We spent three days and two nights at Silver Glen Springs and it was pretty quiet while we were there. Anchoring there was easy and it is the only place you will really need to use the anchors. The manatees are great and you can walk most places except the channel. The water is crystal clear and 72 deg so seeing the fish and manatees was easy. We did not bring snorkel equipment and managed but you should bring some for full enjoyment.
We spent the last two night at Catfish bend where we had 3 bars of Verizon service for our Zoom Christmas. This was another great place where it was peaceful and had abundant wildlife. Tied up here we were able to get ashore and explore a little, but dry land was pretty limited.
There were a few places where we found 3 bars on Verizon, but the majority of the time it was 1 or 2 bars. 3 bars is more likely when you are in a place where you can see houses.
Returning the House Boat was quick and easy which allowed us to get out early for the long drive home.
Our final cost was $1500 including groceries for the week. So even though the fees sounded high our overall cost was similar to any other RCI exchange

Best. Birthday. Ever! The pontoon was big enough for the whole, big family. It was comfy & immaculate. Saw eagles, gators, turtles. Got fresh air and got out of the house lol. Definitely going to be doing this again soon.

are pets allowed?
Yes - pets less than 35lbs are welcome with a $15/day fee. Must bring “facilities” for them to use in the boat (ie a box with sod for dogs).

how long must you run the generator to maintain refrigeration and what is water and waste, and fuel capacities
Did you purchase the liability insurance? Is it needed or can it be covered by our own insurance?

Kind of like renting a car. Check with your insurance company, if covered I would not waste the money. Boat parts are very expensive so make sure your covered by someone. Have a great time!!

I am considering renting through a timeshare and there is the $900 fee, but the total cost is actually a little less than renting directly from Holly Bluff Marina. Are there any other advantages to renting directly from HBM?

They have different boats that they rent through the timeshare but there's nothing wrong with them. If you're happy with the size and occupancy of what's available through the timeshare go for it. The folks there are great and won't treat you differently because you went through the timeshare.

We are limited to rent the 44' 2 BR-1BA model through a timeshare. There will be two neighbor couples - not family. I am concerned about only one bathroom?? This is supposed to sleep six, and there will only be four of us - with only 1 Bath? Does the back bedroom area have a door to close from the bath area, if the other couple in the bunk beds need to use the facilities in the middle of the night?

I just looked at the pictures of the 44' boat on the Holly Bluff website. It looks like the bunk bed area is open to the living area, which would be awkward. Just to clarify, our boat had two bedrooms and they both had doors so they were private.

We are renting the 44' 2 BR-1 BA with another elderly couple for a week. The timeshare only allows the choice of this one model! The only real obstacle I see is only one bathroom???!!! This is difficult if you are not family members for privacy. What other options are there? If two couples rent this model size, is there at least a door closing off the back bedroom from the bath??
