Took the one hour tour w/ Captain Dave today and had a great time. His knowledge of the Everglades, the plant and the animals is very impressive. While we went to see the animals, and we saw plenty, I learned more about the plants. We’ll definitely back in the winter to check out the increased activity and migratory birds.

A fantastic up close and personal tour with Ryan, who was a great captain and story teller! Amazing landscape, and definitely not your typical airboat ride with tons of tourists. Lunch afterwards at Joanie’s Blue Crab cafe topped off an awesome day! Highly recommend!

We went on the 1.5 hour tour with Ryan and it was awesome. Great tour through the everglades. I highly recommend this company. No issues at all.

It’s a longer drive than the boats out of Everglade City (and definitely get directions from the email when they confirm!) but worth the miles. We were the only boat in the grasslands and it was so beautiful. Lots of birds. Even though it was a cloudy day and the gators were sticking to the bottom because it was cooler weather according to Ryan, the captain, we still saw over 20 including really up close. Did not disappoint! Can’t imagine what he finds on a sunny day. Loved hearing about the environment, headphones make the trip nice. Highly recommend.

If you want a real Everglades air boat tour this is the tour company to use. From booking to getting off the boat it was professional yet fun. We booked a private 2hour tour. Captain Dave was friendly funny knowledgeable and a great Captain. He made sure we saw plenty of gators!! Down South Airboat tours are by reservation only.

Excellent tour with Captain Gary! We had done a lot of research trying to find an authentic tour, and were incredibly pleased with Down South Tours. We were able to see alligators and lots of birds. Captain Gary was very knowledgeable about the area, flora and fauna.

We wanted an airboat tour which was more isolated than the standard ones where there are a number of airboats taking off from a single location. Down South seemed to fit that bill and had good reviews so we booked a trip. The communication with staff was great from booking to arrival. They're about 45 minutes outside of Everglades City where we stayed right by the Shark Valley visitor Center and tram ride which we booked after the airboat tour, so it worked out great. The airboat tour was awesome. Captain Dave was very informative on all the different animals we saw. He took us to several alligator nesting locations and waterfowl areas. The pictures we took were fantastic and we learned a lot. On top of the excellent tour, when we arrived the company's owner informed us that although we booked for an 1.5 hour tour, he recommended only an hour tour which would give us excellent viewing of all the various animals and would also save us money but only if we wanted. Nice to have an honest business to deal with.

We were looking for an authentic intimate environmentally aware airboat tour of the Everglades, that was not your typical larger commercial operation, with gift shops, and alligator zoos.
We had high hopes of Down South, and both my wife and I and our guests were delighted. There were four of us and we had the 6 person boat to ourselves. We did have to drive a bit further than Everglades City for our tour, but it was worth it!
Our Captain Gary was charming, knowledgeable and very passionate about everything Everglades!
Our hopes were exceeded in every way.
I don’t often write reviews but feel compelled to tell others and recommend Gary and the team.
Thank you Captain Gary.

Keep in like that they do not run out of Everglades City, they are much closer to Key Largo
We have two adults and two children (age 5 and 2.5). Is the tour safe for children?

I would probably not take kids that young on this tour unless you have several adults to hold them between you. I’m sure they can go slower for you.

What is the best time to book? For light with seeing and animals out and about? And how far of drive are you from FMB location?

We went in December but were told that February is the best to see more alligators and birds. Earlier in the morning would be better because of the heat. It was about an hour drive if I recall correctly - we were coming from the Naples area.
what time of day did you take your ride. we booked the 830 am thinking we should see more wildlife at this time.

One further question, is mile marker 39 where the restrooms are, east Or west of mile marker 37 where Tippy’s is? We’ll be coming east from Naples. Thanks, everyone

From Naples, Continue East past the boat ramp and Tippy’s (approx 3 miles) and there is a gas station/store with facilities.

Where is Tippys Outpost? Was it easy to find?

Yes it’s actually very easy to find, I remember being worried about this but it is directly off of the main road and you can easily follow the mile markers along the side of the road. It’s at mike marker 37. Also used Satnav. We drove past it on our right(approaching from Miami side)and stopped at the garage to use restrooms then doubled back. They are literally next to each other. Tippys is a shop/shack and you can see where they launch the boats to the left of car park. Absolutely brilliant experience.
