This ride is no longer in operation in WDW Disney’s Studios. The Chinese Theater is still there if you wish to see the handprints, but stay tuned for a future attraction.

I loved this ride, sad it closed but it was quite outdated. I wish they would have just done an update like they do with so many rides in the park but realize their MGM contract was up. A shame was a lot of fun.

So gutted this ride is closed. Our whole family loved it. Being replaced by another ride however we aren’t all adrenaline junkies so I hope it’s not another coaster.

This great ride was shut down at the end of September / beginning of October. It was one of my favorite rides in Disney Studios but they have shut it down, as they convert it into another ride that is to open for the Disney 50th.

I know it's gone now, but we really enjoyed The Great Movie Ride. Rode it once on our trip and even my five year old liked it. I'm glad we had the opportunity to ride before it closed but I wish they were updating instead of replacing. A few scenes were certainly outdated but the format of the ride was great and we all loved the Wizard of Oz munchkin scene! Hopefully the new ride will be worth it!

I had no idea this had closed since we visited, but I figured I'd throw my review in here for posterity.
When I went to Disney as a kid, I still remember Hollywood Studios being branded as 'MGM Studios' and the park having more of a focus on movies, studios, filming, behind the scenes stuff and classic era Hollywood. Some of that is still there in the decor and a few of the other attractions (like the Indy stunt show) but the Great Movie Ride in the Chinese Theater replica was really a great homage to that. I was actually wondering if my kids would find this ride interesting since so many of the movies mentioned were well before their time, but they were very entertained by the animatronics and the interactive guides (e got to ride with Mugsy). It was just a really fun trip down the history of film making.
I'm not sure where exactly Hollywood Studios is going now. We are huge Star Wars fans, and Star Wars has its own place in movie history, so I'm certainly excited for that new addition...but I can see how that might not be as appealing to others. My kids also love Toy Story and as that is now a Pixar classic, I'm confident that this will be a popular park addition as well. I've heard the ride will be replaced with a Mickey and Minnie themed ride, and if done right, this could also be an apt tribute to the beginnings of the whole Disney franchise. But this ride was something special and I hope the new ride has as much care and detail.

We have rode the Great Movie Ride every year we have gone to Disney World. It's a ride we love for it's Nostalgia. This August was or last ride as they closed the ride 2 weeks after we rode it. We are going to miss this ride.

This was a nice way to spend a little time. It was clearly popular as in the last week it was open, the queues were massive! We got there at just the right time one morning otherwise I'm not sure we'd have bothered. We certainly didn't want to bother a second time. It's now closed and we can understand why as it was dated and needs a reboot.
