My worst experience in a state park (or any park, for that matter). Struggled to pay the entrance fee since there was no one there to give change, but finally was able to get change at the gift shop, not wanting to be a shady Florida citizen and not pay the fee. I was told by the gift shop operator that the park ranger would come out and start to take tour fees for the house between 12:50 and 1:00pm. Okay, no problem. There would be time to feed the kids.
My daughter has a disability and is currently on a feeding tube to help her survive, and so we were finally able to get her taken care of. My son (my daughter also) is on the autism spectrum and is very regimented, so he was already late for his lunch and couldn't wait another hour. So, we got him taken care of also. My wife currently has a debilitating achilles tendon injury and was unable to walk fast, but finally, at long last, we made our way to the gift shop to purchase our tickets. At about 12:57, we noticed that the park ranger had already started talking to a group on the porch, but thought that most assuredly she would see us coming and let us purchase tickets, since she had started early and it was not yet 1:00pm. Does the website say that the tours start at 12:57pm? Hmm. Nope, it doesn't look like it. It distinctly says 1:00pm.
So, we asked the gift shop operator if she could ask the park ranger to come out and let us purchase tickets, since we were ready for the tour. Mind you, we could still hear the park ranger talking to the group; they hadn't left for the tour yet. It still wasn't even 1:00pm yet. But, lo and behold, the gift shop operator came back and told us that the park ranger would not accommodate us and take us on the tour. She said that we could come back at 2:00pm. Well, guess what? We couldn't do that. We were just in the area passing through and had a strict schedule that we had to keep. My son started flipping out, since kids on the autism spectrum do not like their expectations shattered, and my daughter was extremely disappointed as well. So were my wife and I. Disappointed does not even actually describe my reaction to the nasty park ranger, however. Angry with a capital A would be a more apt description. What the park ranger did was downright nasty. Did I mention nasty? NASTY.
I would urge management at Eden Gardens State Park to re-evaluate the employment of such a despicable employee, as she does not represent the great state of Florida well at all. I work at a luxury hotel, and I can most certainly demonstrate impeccable customer service to you. This was not it. If you have special needs kids, beware, because this state park site definitely does not care one iota about the struggles special needs families go through. Absolutely shameful. A special needs family's worst nightmare.

Decent grounds and colonial home with antique furnishings. The house is only visible on the inside if you pay for the tour, which runs on the hour from 10-3. The tour is maybe 15-20 minutes and costs $4 per adult. There is a sign stating that tickets are only sold the ten minutes prior to the tour. The gardens, at least the first week of May, were sparse. There were a few rose bushes, azalea bushes, and a handful of other flowers. We spent about an hour meandering the grounds and touring the home.

A hidden gem of Florida State Parks- the tour guide was terrific. The history is really interesting and the home, gardens and trails are beautiful.

Beautiful property. We found this little gem on our most recent vacation. The house and gift shop were closed, but we still enjoyed our short visit. We spent an hour or so walking the grounds.

This is my 2nd time visiting these gardens and home. It was wonderful seeing it with all the holiday decorations, as well as wedding photos being taken. It only costs $7-$8 per car and it has an honor system envelope drop box. The area had a recent freeze so many of the flowers were struggling, or having damaging growth issues. There is a wonderful, clean restroom facility behind the main estate. The Spanish moss trees and local flora and fauna really create an atmosphere. There is a body of water and decking about 200 yards beyond the house. There is a cute little gift shop inside the home as well as a tour run several times a day. The store only takes cash - fyi. I will be back!

Every year when we visit Destin in December, we go to Eden Gardens. We love taking the tour of the historic home. Every year each room is decorated beautifully for Christmas & every year the decorations & trees are different since different local organizations decorate a room & a tree. The guide is very knowledgeable about the house & it's clear she enjoys working there, sharing the home & information, which is all very interesting. It's about 45 min. to an hour for the tour and they limit how many people in each group, which is nice, never feel crowded. Eden Gardens is also a great place to have a picnic, the grounds are beautiful, and Tucker Bayou is right there. They have so many camellia bushes, and some were in bloom, very pretty! The nature trail is a really nice walk too. If you're looking to get away from the crowds, and have some beautiful scenery, peace & quiet, plus see a historic home, don't miss Eden Gardens!

Interesting tour of restored old home. A look into the life of the elite in early Florida. The grounds and gardens are lovely and relaxing.

Off the beaten path, but a great retreat to relax and enjoy the bay. Take a picnic lunch and walk out on the small dock to take in the surroundings.
There is a house tour and beautiful gardens, waiting for a photograph.

Lovely historic mansion with beautiful grounds that slope gently to the water’s edge. We didn't have time to go inside, and still we were glad we stopped.

Yes, it costs $4 per person for the home tour. There is also an entrance fee for the park which is $4 per car and pay by honor system. The grounds are open all year but on Tuesdays and Wednesdays the house is closed.

Which is the best day and time to visit in March and April

In general, Early March will have the magnolia and other flowers in bloom through April. However, March also brings visits from college students on their spring breaks (many southeastern colleges party in the panhandle). Lodging, hospitality and other services have higher prices and longer than usual wait times. I haven't found these "partiers" crowding the park. Photographs in the early or evening hours are the most dramatic...home tours...plan on no tours during their lunch break(only one or two people work the house area). Weekdays are less crowded. Many restaurants (within 10 mi.) have weekday specials after 3:00/Happy Hours.

I am sorry I have never been during March or April but honestly I would think anytime between 10am & 3pm. You can look online under Edens Gardens State Park in FL & I am sure you will find all kinds of information. That is how I found out about the Park. When we were there the guided tours were Thursday-Monday. From between 10 to 3. It is a gorgeous park.
