C’est une belle maison d’époque avec le mobilier des premiers propriétaires, la dame connaît bien l’histoire des propriétaires et le transmets très bien pour 10$ cela vaut la peine, car il n’y a pas beaucoup d’endroit comme ça dans la région.

Une belle maison d'époque avec deux bénévoles qui nous accompagnent et nous raconte avec passion l'histoire de cette maison. Le tour est vite fait pour 10$ .

As one might expect - the only guest. On a one person tour you can learn all you want, and the guide was helpful + informative. This is a house that's essentially been preserved 'as was' - or at least recreated as such. I gather it suffered some during its most immediate pre-location period, but not so much that it could not be fairly easily and faithfully replicated here. The transition from 1890's tech to 20thc is interesting (house itself is newer - 1915-ish, but Pompano was not developed, thus, though it was ready for electricity and modern plumbing, people had to do without initially). Furnished with period family items, some clearly pre-date the place, others added through perhaps the 30's. It's a 'slice of life' place rather than 'priceless treasures' and sometimes that makes for a more interesting experience.

The house is wonderfully preserved. The era furniture is beautiful. The team members giving the tours offer great stories of the families that lived in the house and the move it made from its original location on Dixie Highway. Exhibits change throughout the year. Look for special events during the holidays, October and December. The house hosts events during the year such as car shows and food events If you have time go see the horse stables and the Goodyear blimp just north of the house just East of Dixie highway

The Sample-McDougal House is a pleasant diversion, especially on a cooler or cloudy day when the beach is not beckoning. Enjoy the refined elegance and simplicity of yesteryear and learn about the history of this area and its early settlers. Appreciate their efforts to turn this swampland into the shining city and home it has become for so many of us.

wonderful staff are very informative, see how Ft Lauderdale began. The house is full of period furniture. Located right on the waterway

We were able to have our staff Christmas Party at the Sample McDougald house a couple of years ago. It was very nice and they had tables set up all around the porch for our dinner.

Arriving 15 min early, Cheryl let us know that a tour would start in 15 min. Her attitude from the beginning was loud and rude and she continually talked down to the audiance She has a lot of knowledge but no personal skills that would be beneficial to a pleasant experience . Touring dialog just referred to the home as " hers "and her family. She came off as a pompous, arrogant, rude bag of hot air. We had just come from the three other tours of Smithsonian museums, The Old Schoolhouse, train station, and Butler House. All had congenial seniors or volunteers touring the visitors . Cheryl has an inflated ego and is a pompous bully not suited for a Smithsonian property.

I want proof of the house it’s interesting to see how they moved it all the way over here and how everything is doing everything by myselfIt’s very hard to turn off and I couldn’t answer think everybody should really take a look at it

Recently attended a Business Net-worker here and was pleasantly surprised. What a great piece of local Pompano history to discover in this beautiful home. As an added treat, the Docent who provided the tour originally lived in the home as a child and shared personal anecdotes. Explore the rooms, enjoy the period pieces of furniture, toys, books and photos. Don't miss the story and images showing how this home (and its contents) were was actually moved overnight - without a single window broken! They do hire the venue for events and the gazebo and wrap around porch are lovely touches.
