Lake Kerr is a pretty & clear freshwater lake with a sandy bottom, averaging about 10 feet deep overall with some areas over 25 feet. Lake Kerr is over 2830 acres with 19 miles of shoreline surrounded by the Ocala National Forest. You’ll see diverse freshwater fish & birds, & often see otters at dawn & dusk, deer sipping along the shore, alligators, squirrels, raccoons, and even bear!
There’s one public boat ramp is located at Moorehead Boat Ramp off Forest Rd 11, with parking space for no more than a dozen boat trailers (if you count parking on the side of the road leading to the ramp). There’s an Island in the middle where locals hang out on weekends & holidays & residents often provide a fireworks display which can be seen across the lake. No marina with gas is available from the water, so come prepared. Ice, gas, oil, drinks, and other basic provisions are available at the 88 Store a few blocks away.

We had a great day on the lake fishing and taking in the sunset. Caught a few sunfish and a turtle. We were there in March and it wasn’t busy at all. There is only one boat ramp so I would image at peak, it would be busy.

Very nice pristine Florida lake. Good fishing not crowded. Only one very busy at peak times public boast ramp. The photos listed are not Lake Kerr probably either Salt Springs run or Silver Glenn both close.

Not an attraction, so to speak. Just a boat ramp,dock and picnic area, but so nice.very clean lake with a really cool island in middle to park on and swim and grill out.we caught 5 bass in about 30 min. and cooked them on the island.we had a great time and will go back.

Well when i was abou to leave florida awhile back i finally got my friend Charlie Goad, a local native of the Ocala area to take me out on a pontoon boat oe of his friends had docked close by on Lake Kerr which is just a short ride from the springs there and so as we approached the clear sandy bottom and the beginning of the springs i jumped off of the boat and began swimming towards the springs which were crystal clear but creepy to because you could see everypebble , fish or frog in the water, They also have these larger fish called Mullets that are between a foot and a half and two feet long swimming fearly right next to you which sort of freaked me out but finally i relaxed and approached the amazing head waters of the springs, a magnitude one spring ommits he most amount of water per day, over an estimated 100,000 gallons a day but its slightly salty but not brackish but more like mineral water since Florida sits on top of limestone that has a mass of underwater springs going threw the whole state, i loved it. All sorts of animals to see in abundance including Osprey, river Otters, Aligators many different kinds of snakes , they don't bother you so don't let that put you off. of course it is hot and there are bugs but who cares , if you love camping Florida is the place, some people have screened in houseboats and float downthe intercoastal waterways that go all the way to Miami, it is really alot of fun. i have photos will turn to post later

Would it be safe to swim in Lake Kerr for a long period

I wouldn't. Safer bet to go to Salt Springs where there's a swimming area. You can enter through the park (price unknown) & use their facilities, including a boat ramp, or through the marina which charges $10 to park. A ramp is available at the marina which your $10 allows you to use. You can ease over to the roped swimming area, anchor, & swim there. I believe you can swim in the park's area, but not go on land. That water is even more clear than Kerr.

Hi, I would like to know if there is a good amount of largermouth bass in the Lake. And if there is any baits or what baits re better to use in this Lake. Thank You!

It has good bass fishing. The photos on this review are not Lake Kerr. I think they are either SaltSprings run or Silver Glenn both close by

yes, there is...watermelon red finesse worms r good. the pics are salt springs run...lake kerr is across hwy 19 to the west.
