Shameful display of the mistreatment of animals and downright cruelty! The owner is not Carole Baskin who actually owns Big Cat RESCUE. Big Cat HABITAT had animals lying down and not moving. At one point we thought one of the camels might be dead. Moreover, a bison was bleeding, several animals especially the bears looked in dire distress, and the bit cats look as if they are retarded due to all the inbreeding. PETA and Carole Baskin, please make closing this place your mission. And, by the way, the ring non-master - CLAYTON ROSAIRE - made disparaging remarks about humane society, PETA, and Carole Baskin. He told the audience to be advocates of him and to not support activists. So, CLAYTON ROSAIRE, to you I say - thank you for making me a LIFETIME ACTIVIST! Shame on you!

This was an incredible sanctuary for animals. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of animals that were being taken care of at this lovely habitat. The bears were amazing, the big cats were awesome, the baby goats and momma goats were sweet, the monkeys were energetic, the lemurs were playful, and the zebra, horses, bison, and camels were engaging. I highly recommend spending an afternoon at this hidden gem.

This isn’t a sanctuary! This is animal exploitation. Animals shouldn’t be in cages, made to sit on a stool like the circus while an audience of people gawk around them. Stay away and support real sanctuaries. Shameful.

This place was dirty and sad. The animals were in small cages with a cement pool. Not much of a natural habitat setting. The grounds were just dirt and sun. The animals did look healthy but many of the cages didn’t seem very clean. It only takes about a half hour to walk through so we didn’t stay for the shows which is good given the ratings I read before writing this one. It was $50 for the two of us, it just kind of made me sad.

We weren’t sure what to expect with variable recent reviews but we had a great experience. They had a good variety of animals that seemed well cared for. Really had something for everyone in our group - from large mammals to petting zoo to tropical birds and monkeys. On a super hot day, we appreciated the food & drink area. We arrived too late for the bird show but did catch the animal encounter. Lemurs, dogs, and tigers. Outside of spending a tad too long talking about their mission and challenges, we really enjoyed the show.

We're rather embarrassed to tell others we were suckered into this place by the high Tripadvisor score, but if we can help others avoid it ...

They get 2 stars for having some truly impressive animals, a bunch of big cats to be sure, but also several large bears, a couple of camels, some smaller primates, tortoise, and such.

However, this place gets no more than 2 stars because the so-called habitats were dismal-looking tiny concrete-and-wire cages, in some cases the animal had barely 4-times its body length in which to move around. About 3/4 of the cages had minimal posted information to tell you about the animals, but that means 1/4 had nothing.

The worst parts were the shows. There was a very slow moving and unremarkable bird show, followed by an animal show - the main event. After a long diatribe that was variously defensive, accusatory, and political, they bring out a pack of Beagle dogs to do tricks. Common dogs doing lame tricks! Maybe the next act was better,
but we left at that point.

We are a big fan of zoos in general, and we've visited many. But this was a very poor excuse for a zoo, and yet it promised to be much more than a zoo.

This place is horrific. The minute you pull up into the parking lot, the smell of urine and feces is overwhelming. There was a mamma goat who just gave birth (fresh blood all over her behind) that morning already put in a pen for display in her the petting area. The smell of the aviary was awful and unbearable. The turtles were covered in feces from their pen not being cleaned appropriately.

The shows were shocking. The woman handler of the bird show kept calling the birds brats and wise guys. She would get agitated with them and would seriously threaten them.

The owner’s son who did the animal show went on a rant of how crazy Carol Baskin is and how they believe she murdered her husband. Then he started talking politics. I am a conservative republican, but I came to this facility to be entertained, not get a Fox News report Desantis in between animal acts.

Then they show a video of the owner begging us not to believe PETA’s accusations against them because everyone at PETA is out to get them. Let me tell you that I can firmly attest I didn’t need PETA to recognize how dirty the animal enclosures are, and that they deserve a citation for this. I love animals and I love to visit zoos and sanctuaries as I’ve visited many. And in my opinion This place deserves a solid F for FAIL.

Our family visited the Big Cat for the first time last so we wanted to share our thoughts since we were very impressed:

- Wonderful experience (great family memories)

- Very close up interaction and views of tigers, lemurs, birds, camels, and other rare animals

- Clean/organized facility, peaceful, rural location, but close to town

- Obviously donations/funding go directly for animal care (there are few employees and many volunteers, passionate and dedicated to the physical care and emotional well being of each animal)

- Their mission to rescue animals and provide them with a good home is definitely a place I want to support

- As a nonprofit they put their money back into the care of the animals

- The animals seemed happy very content. We watched the tigers play and the zebra, camel and buffalo race around playing tag. All the food given to the animals looked plentiful, healthy and fresh (fresh meat, fruits and vegetables

- We enjoyed the presentation and the enthusiasm of the owners and staff. We were also impressed with how the staff advocated for adopting dogs from shelters vs. retail stores or puppy mills.

- A great place for photographers and opportunities to feed the animals

- Our family drove up and down the coast visiting multiple towns and shops and the Big Cat had the best t-shirt designs (and quality) by far! We bought a few for ourselves and gifts

The Big Cat Habitat is truly a beautiful sanctuary for animals and for humans. We hope you will support them too:)

This place bills itself as a “habitat” and a “rescue” and informs you that they are a 501 c 3 charity. In reality it’s more like an old roadside zoo where animals are kept in substandard conditions and exploited for money.

The bears are kept in tiny habitat and look lethargic and depressed. The visitors are encouraged to feed the bears junk on a stick for $5 a piece. There doesn’t seem to be any imposed limit - I get it, a bear can consume a lot of junk.

The large cats are in slightly larger habitats which are still much smaller than any decent zoo would allow. The giant tortoises are in a tiny enclosed sand/dirt area with some dirty water. Every other animal we saw, the birds, the monkeys, the lemurs are in too-small cages without any access to the outside. I haven’t seen a zoo this low-quality in probably 30 years. I thought these were done away with.

The worst part of it was the show. The host, Clayton, let off a few tasteless jokes before deciding to rant at us about how wonderful a Governor DeSantis was and how wild animals had no chance of making it in the wild and could only survive in captivity (making no distinction between an institution that studies animals and keeps them in appropriate habitats and his zoo, which does neither). After this his mother came on and went on a diatribe about how horrible PETA and ASPCA was (“those people who show you kittens and puppies on TV with a sad song playing in the background actually euthanize puppies! And kittens!”) and about how we should “do our own research” (oy) and never give them any money. They kept mentioning that there will be a guy with a bucket at the exit asking for donations and advertising their “animal experiences” with their lemurs (“lemur in the native language means “ghost of the forest”—it does no such thing, it just means “ghost” and in Latin at that) and sloth, which has a separate fee of $300-$400 for 30 minutes, depending on the animal.

The show was … not good, with the two big cats, Mia the liger and Barry White the white tiger, jumping from post to post. Clayton talked a lot about giving treats but the entire time he was brandishing a long stick and a whip, which he at one point cracked.

Just the kind of attraction that really should have died out with the dinosaurs.

We recently visited the Big Cat Habitat & Sanctuary and were surprised by the exhibits and performance.

One can certainly see big cats, bears, and a host of other animals here, but calling it a "sanctuary" is a stretch. Most of the animals are caged in relatively confined areas that varied on cleanliness. Most zoos and sanctuaries have far larger exhibit/living areas for their animals.

We missed their bird show, but we did attend the big cat show. It is largely a circus act, and the "lion tamer" spent almost as much time talking politics as he did talking about the animals. They played a video of the owner who accused animal rights activists of being on the wrong side of animals' rights.

On display in their big cat show was a "liger." The announcer informed us that a "liger" does not exist in nature, i.e., lions and tigers will not mate together in the wild. A liger can only be created by a human putting a lion and tiger together such that the inevitable occurs.

We do not recommend visiting.
