You want a review? You got it! Overall a nice looking station. Only thing is I found out the hard way about having to wear HEADPHONES if you are listening to something on your radio, or your cellphone as I had a security guard accost me asking if I had lost my ear buds as I had been listening to a talk radio station on my cellphone speaker at low volume. Security guard said it could be heard through out the entire waiting area. Wrong! The one big door to the train platform easily drowned my cellphone out. I realize the security guard is doing his job BUT, hey Amtrak how about having some sign`s saying headphones/earbuds must me worn when listening to electronic devices or an automated public address announcement hmmm?!

We took the train from Tampa to Fort Lauderdale as the first leg of our vacation because we had never been on a train. The train was 1.5 hours late to begin with. Once we boarded the train I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and roomy the seating was although some housekeeping was needed. The staff was rude not very pleased to be doing their jobs. Staff did not provide updates on upcoming stops and times. When asked they were very rude about it. The man working in the “diner” was no better. I recommend bringing hand sanitizer and rely on Amtrak staff for anything. I understand we all have bad days but when half of your job is to deal with the public you should possess at least a small amount of interpersonal skills.

So this is a mini review of the station and amtrak itself. I LOVED the roomette. As a solo traveler it was amazing and the food was a better quality than airplane food. My attendant was great, funny and really personable. I had one issue with a power hungry little twig that walked behind me and was upset at me for going the wrong way but thankfully I never saw that guy again. This station was cool. It has an old fashion look to it and I really enjoyed it. All together a great time and GREAT experience.

West Palm to Tampa and return? Three ways to go. Drive, fly or Amtrak train. We chose the train and were glad we did. Easy restful day trip into lovely Tampa Union station ( a treat in itself) Less hectic than flying and much less stress than the 250 mile drive each way. Least expensive as well. Arrived relaxed for hotel checkin and dinner.

This is the 3rd time I had a nightmare trip with Amtrak’s 91 Silver Star from Tampa to West Palm Beach. 1 hour delay boarding - once on at Plant City sat for 5+ hours for mysterious delay. Rudest staff ever. AND NO FOOD or DRINKS in the food car. Was to arrive 4:17 pm arrived 11:05pm in WPB. Other two times the delays were 4 hours and 5 hours. Don’t know what the problem with this train but they should at least have a food car. People who were diabetic were in serious trouble. The staff which we never saw most of the trip bc they were hanging out somewhere. Awful. Rent a car one way and drive - it’s more money but you won’t regret it. The photo says arrival 9:55 but that’s a lie they stopped at Imdiantown for another delay and we arrived at 11:05pm. Shame on Amtrak.

I haven't actually travelled on Amtrak, I have seen the station. It's an old beauty with a local preservation group involved in maintaining it. Air conditioned with free parking.

I often take Amtrak when traveling from West Palm Beach to Tampa/St Pete, this trip like so many others was pleasant with great attendants at your service. I always upgrade to sleeper car service allowing me extra comfort and relaxation.

Once again the train is late. Last time I traveled to Tampa it was 4hrs late. That time I rented a car and was home in Fort Lauderdale before the train even left the station in Tampa. It’s crap!

10 minute ride form cruise terminal to station but is a $15.00 cab fee. Station is historical, benches very hard and there is no food or drink vending machines. Train was one and one half late Amtrak. They did transport us out to the end of platform on a golf cart with our luggage. Porter on train helped us get luggage on board train and off too.

There is free parking adjacent to the station. It is locked overnight in order to lessen the potential for shenanigans in a not so nice location.

No there aren't but you could probably call Uber. Not sure of the cost but you might want to give them a call to find their prices.

Barb, I can only speak with a personal opinion. There is a fenced off long term parking area behind the station. I've left my car there during a trip many times and have never had an issue. But be sure you park in the area with the tall fence. There is also a guard on duty 24 hours. Another option is the nearby City-run Twiggs Street Garage, but it's not free.
