If you enjoy getting out for a nice walk the causeway is a great place do to that. There is a walking/biking trail that runs next to and at times parallel to the highway that the cars travel on. But on the other side you get fantastic views of the Old Bay. You can go as far as you want on the trail. There aren’t many restrooms along the trail & I had to cross the causeway to use some port a potties by the boat ramps & carefully cross back over. The trail goes out over the Old Bay towards Clearwater. If you plan on going for a walk, make sure you have good walking shoes & be prepared for some lovely views!!

Starting to not enjoy it. I get flats often because they barely clean the trail off. There’s always glass.

We rode the causeway in the wind this week. Oh my goodness it was so windy we had to pedal hard just to get down the backside of the bridge. Beautiful ride tho and it seems that everyone who uses the trail is pretty courteous. It’s nice and wide too. If you park at the Pinellas end there is pay parking, but if you park from the bridge and east from there, it’s free. The only washrooms noted are at the eastern end of the trail.

A very nice place to ride bikes and enjoy the sun. A continuous breeze make the area very comfortable.

More police presence required. Way too many inconsiderate groups of people showing up to engage in a competition of extremely loud music. Sad to see a group of thugs run off folks and families that are trying to enjoy a picnic, peace and quiet. Would not recommend this trail, especially for families with kids as the amplified noise they generate is mostly profanity and vulgar.

This is our go to when kids come home or we have visitors come to Tampa. We pick them up at the airport then drive to the Causeway Trail for a walk about. Last time we went was in the evening with our daughter and it was breezy...felt so awesome being up that high and feeling the wind on your face and so close to the beautiful crescent moon! Makes a lovely, challenging bike ride, too, and you can go all the way across to Pinellas County. Great way to make use of a retired bridge! Great views of both the St. Pete and the Tampa skyline from the top.

What a wonderful flat ride (other than one moderate bridge climb ) on a beautiful surface separate from cars..no shade so pick a cool part of the day..

This is one of my favorite escapes during COVID. I bike the bridge then head into Safety Harbor for lunch. You can't beat the view and often meet some good folks along the way. Folks are social distancing and glad to be outside.

Took the bikes along this well maintained bike trail. Take in the views of Tampa Bay as well as the Intercoastal Waterway - plenty of birds and dolphin in the early morning. Adequate free parking ( unless you park at Ben T Davis Beach). Since the trail is parallel to the car traffic across the bridge, there is a fairly constant background traffic noise. Ignore it and face the waterway, instead.

One of my favorite biking trails. Every muscle in your body will be exhausted from a round trip ride. I start in Clearwater, have lunch at Rocky Point, sometimes head over to Cypress Park, and then return. Parking is at a premium on the causeway. There is a lot of crosswind and traffic gusts. There are rest stops along the way. As well as bike repair stations and sunscreen. Bring lots of water and snacks. My youngest was 10 her first time and handled the 14 mile trip plus the additional 6 boring miles home. So now we eliminate them and park.

Is there a place to rent bikes nearby?

Near the main highway there is a smaller bridge for pedestrians and I saw many times there people running or riding a bike. I would suspect there are some places around where you can rent bikes, do your research online. The view is amazing and sometimes you cannot define when the blue of the sky end and the blue of the water starts - that is why I was envious of the people on the smaller bridge having their nice strolls.
Is there a place for large vehicle/rv parking? Not to camp, just to ride....

For a vehicle that size it might be more convenient to park at the boat ramp on the opposite side of the road, you still can access the trail in your bicycle by riding under the bridge. Or depending on the time you could try to park on the grass parallel to the one way road along the trail.

Since the trail is right next to the causeway (which I assume is open 24/7) it would probably stays open all the time. Their website doesn't specify the hours. You might call either Clearwater or Tampa authorities and inquire. I would probably not walk there after dark, just for safety reasons.

There are no bike rentals along the causeway/trail, as far as I know. There are several restaurant/bar locations on the Tampa side (Rocky Point) and 1 or 2 places you can rent jet-skis and boats.
