We took our dog for a hike at Warwoman Dell to chase waterfalls. Its a really beautiful area. A short nature trail leads into the canyon and to the small but scenic Warwoman Dell Falls. Following Bartram Trail northbound, Becky Branch Falls is just a short ways across the main road. Bartram Trail leads about 2 miles to Martin Creek Falls and there is a Lower Martin Creek Falls a short ways downstream. Overall, a beautiful area and great place for a hike in nature.

We stopped by and took one of the hiking trails and enjoyed the sounds of nature. It was very peaceful and walking by the small cheek was nice

There are several hikes of varying lengths that leave from Warwoman Dell Recreation parking lot. The shortest is a 1 mile loop to a pretty waterfall. This is a very easy hike that we would bring grandchildren to hike. There are a couple signs that tell some history. Lots of places for pictures and a picnic building.

This area provided a great wooded hike for us. It is a natural beauty, filled with priceless gems. A group of us hiked the trails, ch8sing waterfalls and found three in this area. It is definitely a place I will revisit. We took the shorter trails, around the warwoman dell area, and crossed the road to Becky Branch falls. We covered a little over two miles, three waterfalls, a cavern, and sixty-six stairs. This was worth the drive from Atlanta.

This peaceful place in the "Warwoman" community near Clayton is just a peaceful place to stop and walk around or sit and listen to nature while traveling through the north Georgia mountains. My family and I stopped here several times over the years while I was growing up. Now, I have taken my children here once and they enjoyed it and just being outside. Neat history markers as well

This is a nice place to just sit back and relax. We forget to do that sometimes. There are several hiking trails and with the Bartram trail crossing through Warwoman Dell there is a change to take an extended hike. Sit down and enjoy a picnic lunch if you like as well, there are several shelters.

Warwoman Dell is a family-friendly interactive trail with lots of informative signs that educate you about the area and the woman for whom it is named, Nancy Ward (pronounced Nanye-hi).
One legend tells that she was a Cherokee woman that fought against the Creek Indians with her husband whom was killed in battle. Even after his death she continued to fight and the Cherokee eventually defeated the Creeks. She soon met and married an English man by the name of Bryant Ward and spent the rest of her days trying to make peace between the Cherokee Nation and the Settlers... or so I read.
The trail is a 1.5 mile loop that highlights the variety of plants such as the vast array of ferns, wildflowers and rhododendrons. This I believe is a nod to John Bartram (considered America's first botanist) and father of William Bartram of whom Bartram Trail is named. It also highlights Warwoman Shear, a crease through the mountains that acted as a travel corridor for early Indians. The Shear goes from the South Carolina state line to Helen, Georgia and is actually an ancient fault zone.
Warwoman Dell also features evidence of 18th century plans to build a railroad through this area. The bed for the railroad can still be seen. The loop trail is also said to have a beautiful scenic overlook, but I was honestly too tired to fully walk the loop to discover the view after my extended waterfall hike from Warwoman Dell to Becky Branch Falls and then on to Martin Creek Falls.
Those looking for a short waterfall hike will appreciate Becky Branch Falls. It is approximately a half mile hike round trip from the Warwoman Dell parking area to the falls via Bartram Trail. It can be easily viewed from a small bridge that crosses directly in front of the 20' waterfall. If you are feeling more adventurous (like I was), you can continue along Bartram Trail another 1.8 miles to Martin Creek Falls. It is mostly downhill, so the hike there is easy until you must return along the same path. Still, for the most part the trail is not terribly strenuous in any area.
DIRECTIONS:
From US-23 (Hwy 441) in Clayton, Georgia travel east on Rickman Road. In 1/2 a mile it will merge into Warwoman Road. 2.5 miles from here you will see the parking entrance to Warwoman Dell, which is difficult to see. Look for a small brown sign with a picnic table symbol and turn right thereafter.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Family friendly hike that encompasses a lot of the things I love about being out in nature: Waterfalls, scenic views, beautiful plants and historic sites. I can only imagine what this trail looks like in the Spring when the rhododendrons are in bloom.

This is a spot with lots of history. It's not as dynamic as other hikes, yet there is some very interesting history here. They do a nice job with some signage telling stories of the history.

I would like to know when the main road into the Dell will be open. It is closed now beyond the first picnic shed and has been for a few months. We want to use the larger picnic area soon but need for the gate to be open to do so. Can you give me a time it will open? Thanks so much.

I love War Woman Dell and have gone there for many years but every time I have gone there in the past months the road back to the larger picnic "house" has been closed. Can you tell me when it will open?

We were there last weekend (March 2019) the road and picnic area house near the restroom is open. There were a lot of trees down this winter and there were crews cutting and clearing the trees from the trails. Go and enjoy!
