Minutes away from high falls state park and admission is free. Many animals; tigers, bears, peacocks, turtles, cougar, snakes, owls, birds!! Very easy to access and many shaded areas.

Short and sweet

Short walk. Fully shaded. Beautiful view the whole way. Can actually get to the water at the end with nice crushed shell shore and a cute little bench to sit and soak in the view.

We enjoyed all of it, nice animal displays, and walking trails, loved sitting on the porch of the office area and watching all of the busy humming birds, we would recommend.

Great place for scenery and fresh air exercise.

While summer weather may prove hot for this activity, we had a mild day and still walked up a sweat. Many of the animals exhibited are orphaned, injured, or nuisance. With 20+ miles of hiking & biking trails it would be a good idea for first time visitors to get a map. Some of the trails around the Visitors Center are paved but even the non-paved trails we saw were quite passable, although some inclines will still help your heart-rate elevate! Ample restroom facilities available and no admission charge.

Not the dauset trails experience I remember

My husband and I visited this weekend as we hadn’t been since we were kids. I understand that Dauset Trails relies on donations and does not charge admission however there is a need for improvement. While they do have a lot animals that are native to Georgia, several exhibits were closed. No bears, no beavers, no falcons. They did have several types of owls, a bald eagle and a hawk. The otter exhibit was lacking, one lone otter with no mate. They had a few other native animals such as deer, turkey, bob cats and the grey fox. It seems the main attraction is General Lee, the ground hog who is used to predict the end of winter every year.
Hoping there would be a good variety in the reptile room, we were disappointed to see a fake/toy snake in the exhibit that supposedly housed an eastern coral snake. (And yes, in comparison to all of the other very real and very alive snakes it was quite obvious) Now I understand that animals could be released after rehabilitation or might die in captivity. However the case...instead of putting a toy snake in an exhibit, why not put another live snake/reptile specimen in it instead?
Unsure if the experience was due to poor funding or poor management. Whatever the reason, this might be a good experience for small kids but we left very disappointed.

Great free, local nature experience!

Dauset trails ia great for the little animal lovers in your life or for adults to just meander and observe nature! Easy to navigate and locate in a rural setting, Dauset trails has lots of local animals that you can see close up in a zoo-like setting. All wildlife has been rescued. There are tables and benches if you choose to bring your own food. No food is sold here. There are quiet trails, ponds and adorable working farm that makes for great photos. They do not allow pets due to the abundant wildlife. And best of all, it's free.

I spent several hours on a Saturday at Dauset Trails. This is a free attraction. It appears to be well maintained. It is also close to two state parks. This nature center has what is essentially a zoo. I think it is mostly rescued wild animals. Some of the cages seemed a little small and only a little like the animals natural habitat. But I do not know how long the animals spend there. So it may be only while they rehabilitate.
There are also horse and bicycle trails in the woods. You may also hike these same trails. They were not very crowded, however, school was not out yet. All in all I found the place enjoyable.

Good family trip with younger children. All wildlife is local to Georgia. Nice picnic area and playground as well. Clean restrooms with changing tables.

Fantastic free nature center with animals and hiking

A hidden gem! Only about 50 min SE out of Atlanta. Very nice, small animal zoo here with animals native to GA. Lots of hiking and mountain biking trails outside of the nature centers main visiting area. Tent camping available too for a small fee.
