Sope Creek is a real neat park. It is part of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) federal parks along the Chattahoochee River. Sope Creek is used primarily for hiking and biking.
Today a group of 10 friends hiked 6 miles around the park. Trails are marked with maps at junctions. Highlights included mill ruins along the creek and an old graveyard in the middle of park. See pics. Medium size parking lot which gets busy on weekends and holidays. Parking fee is required here (currently $5).
Three CRNRA units connect together: Sope Creek, Cochran Shoals, and Powers Island. One of my friends said you can do a 17 mile hike if you combine all of them. Nice!
Great area and worth a stop. My favorite CRNRA unit is "Island Ford" .... but all of them are worth a stop at least once if you are in the area.

Very good trail, but bikers make it difficult so be careful to hike in peace and alot break ins in the parking lot so be careful and aware. but good trail. I go all the time

Scenic short trail amid a residential area. Heavily wooded with water features. Ample parking. Good markers. Worth a stop!

Love this trail. So pretty around the lake especially in the Spring. You can cover a lot of ground too. Not too lonely, not too crowded.

Leaves crunching below your feet on this pretty easy trail is a bonus in the fall. The ruins are cool and the creek is nice too. We stopped here after flying to Atlanta, on our way to the cabin, to stretch our legs.

This trail is an enjoyable hike that goes' to the ruins of a stacked-stone Civil War-era paper mill on the banks of a rocky creek, and then loop to a pond nat the Chattahoochee River park in Atlanta.
The old mill was built in 1855 and was destroyed by Union troops during the Civil War, targeted for its role in paper production used for Confederate currency. The remnants of the foundation and walls stand, cathedral-like, beside Sope Creek, and a small spillway waterfall runs beside the ruins.
As you follow the paths around the ruins, the hike reaches the creek’s banks and begins following the creek’s downstream flow. The creek provided a beautiful backdrop to the forested canopy and makes for a peaceful hike.
Come and enjoy the views!

This is a such a beautiful place.
The Sope Creek is stunning and the trail is nice.

Great trail close to home. Always enjoy the walk. Options of short to long hikes. Recommend it. Weekends are a little crowded with bikes but there are non bike trails

Is it safe to play in Sope Creek?

I have to disagree with the yes votes. Soap Creek is known to rise quickly and unexpectedly. The dry rocks are suddenly slippery and if you don't know where to walk, you can get hurt. I've seen this happen twice.
Can I hike it with a small stroller?

There are four levels of trails from those that you can ride a bike or such with no problem to those that are difficult to walk on. If you stay with the first, you are okay except for some steep hills. The latter,, don't even try.

$3 one time honor parking. You can get a yearly pass for $35 if I'm not mistaken which you can use in all the Hooch parks. All the parking stands are near the entrances for all of the Hooch parks. Holidays are free.
