Sarahs surprise lesson

Bought as a surprise for my wifes 50th birthday..She had not been in the saddle since she was 14..Nervous as this was unexpected surprise,she needn't have been..From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by all staff,then greeted by Sheila the instructor..What a character,my wifes nerves were eased by the fun put into her briefing, before nothing but positivity when on her mount Gray..Fantastic lesson hosted by great people..Hopefully back in the future,to show how she has developed..Thankyou Bigland She had a blast..

Brilliant lessons

Brilliant private lessons here. Thanks to the whole team for their professional techniques and caring approach. My Granddaughter loves her weekly visit to Bigland. First lesson with Peter yesterday, full of fun, encouragement and drive. She loves Bigland, Sheila and the team. Highly recommended.

Safety first for the most enjoyment for us and the horses.

We did the one hour woodland hack. Hats, boots and high viz provided with a quick assessment of our ability in the arena before setting off. Really good safety measures so we could really enjoy our ride. Karen our guide was great, our horses were fantastic. Too busy enjoying ourselves to take photos.

A fab day ride with great horses, stunning views and a friendly professional guide.

I have really enjoyed a few day rides plus one 3 day ride with Bigland over the years and this one day ride on 9 May 2021 was no exception. My horse, Prada, was a joy and a privilege to ride and the scenery was wonderful with stunning views looking down over Morecombe Bay and Lake Conniston. Our guide Hannah was very pleasant and professional and the other riders were all good company too! I have also ridden with Mike who is very knowledgeable about the area and a lot of fun.

Restoring a dream

I am returning to riding after a 7 year break and having nearly died of COVID this year and I was extremely nervous and excited at the same time. Would I be able to get on, would I be able to get off!! would the horse be too much for me, all the things that could go through your mind did. Especially with everything that has happened with the pandemic over the last year and how that has changed the hands-on assistant's yards are able to give.

But I didn't need to worry, my instructor Lyndsey was exceptionally empathetic and picked up on the level of my energy throughout the lesson. Jessie who is the RDA instructor was really supportive with the dismounting because my legs just have no strength.

The horses are lovely and well-mannered. The schools are a good size and the facilities in the yard are really good.
I think sometimes people don't realize what great riding schools we have in Cumbria and that's such a shame because the quality of instruction and horses is excellent and the countryside is beautiful.

Coniston 3 day trail ride - a must for experienced riders!

The Coniston 3 Day Trail ride is a must for experienced riders. We enjoyed it so much in the summer two year ago that we came back to do it again in Autumn. The scenery changes with the seasons and it looked different again in Autumn! This is for an experienced intermediate rider. You will need your wits about you, as you traverse terrain that you never expected. Travelling across streams, over mountain passes, down gullies, up and down small steep tracks, some that look like dried up streams; through forests and meadows, some roadwork, dropping down to Lake Coniston, cantering through moorland and dense trees, ducking under branches, around bogs and heather, with lovely pub lunches and super accommodation included (drinks not inc). Views away out to sea and even to the Isle of Man on a clear day. Some of the inclines are 25% up hill and down dale so not for the faint hearted, be prepared for six hours in the saddle every day, but it is the closest you will feel to setting off on a Lord of the Rings adventure. Sure footed, experienced, much loved and cared for horses. Quite spectacular. In the company of extremely knowledgeable and experienced guides. If you are unsure, there are 2 – 3 hour rides and day pub lunch rides available so you can get a feel for what the kind of riding is in store for you. An absolute joy and enough room in the saddle bags for essentials. Your case is transported separately to your accommodation. We set of on a Sunday (2 nights) and 3 days of glorious riding.

What a superb riding holiday

I so much enjoyed the Lakes Trail here in early September, I can't recommend it highly enough. The horses were fit and forward going as well as being obedient and good to handle on the ground. The tack was good, the ride leader funny and well informed - we stopped for lunch at a pub every day except one and that day we had a fabulous picnic with hot coffee and more than we could eat. The other girls riding were goo company and we all ate together in the evenings - the accommodation is better if you're prepared to share - single rooms are more expensive and less luxurious

Brilliant experience

Booked a 30 minute lesson for girls aged 11 and 6. It was a great experience with a young lady who knew her stuff and actually explained and taught the girls the basics. Got some good advice about how to choose a stables for regular lessons when we go home. The girls wanted to stay all day!

Awful experience

One of the worst yards I have ever stepped foot on. Horses in ill fitting tack, poor condition and the guide for our hack was one of the most disgusting people I have met. On a brighter note, the refund was quick and on time unlike the yard.
We had a hack booked for 2pm and only managed to mount up at gone 3pm.
The guide, was abrupt and rude. Pulling twigs off trees and telling us to use them to hit the horse when it’s shying at sheep in a field.
After telling me he’s rode for Great Britain, he continues to drag the pony across the yard.
Some horses were really poor condition. The bridles and saddles didn’t fit properly and were all twisted. The horse they asked me to ride had a loose shoe and most of them looked like they had don’t seen a farrier for a while.
Awful yard and have a base in grassmere too. STAY AWAY

Private classical lesson with Jess

Really friendly staff. I had a private lesson with Jess who took me on a journey of classical riding and the Portuguese history behind it. I thoroughly enjoyed this lesson and didn’t want it to end. I found muscles that I didn’t know existed and Ray, my 20 something pony was a darling and patient with me.

I considered myself a fairly experienced rider but felt a truly didn’t kind of connection with riding through my lesson with Jess and Ray that made me fall in love with the riding thing again.

To Jess and Ray, thank you I shall be back for more lessons only this time I shall book one for each day of my stay so I don’t miss out!!!!
