This is a Hall of fame trail! The trail is one of the safest trails I have been on. When we traveled it we saw trail cameras , they have police running around in little cars , they also have a unit that blows the trail off of leaves and debris . What else can you ask for. The tunnels a awesome. The only problem we had was we traveled in late october right after a wind storm the night before and 3 miles to the end of the trail where it meets up with the Chief we had walnuts on the trail which if hit right with the bike will send you tumbling , they had not had time to blow off the trail. This trail can be done in easy sections or whole rides with campgrounds. A great stop along the trail is in Rockmart called the Rails at Rockmart great food , A cute little town. A great Stop! Enjoy riding this trail.

My wife and I split the ride up over 2 days. We did 2 out and back rides. We opted out of the last couple of miles, closest to Smyrna. Day 1 was an out and back ride from The Esom Road trailhead to the Coots Lake trailhead, and back. I was a bit worried about the security of our car parked at the Esom Road trailhead parking lot. It is somewhat remote looking, but we did not have any issues. The Coots Lake trailhead parking lot was great. Paved, well used, and they had a port o potty. That day 1 out and back ended up at around 54 miles. We thought the Chief Ladiga trail was in good shape, but the Silver Comet trail was in great shape. And that section was not too busy. And for us out of towners, and first timers on the trail, we found the scenery to be lovely. And a bit of a change from the Chief Ladiga scenery. On day 2 we did an out and back ride from The Coots Lake trailhead to the Carter Road Silver Comet trailhead. That ended up being about a 48 mile round trip. On day 1, the towns of Cedartown, and Rockmart, were nice to visit. Days 2 ride was also very scenic, including the Brushy Mountain Tunnel. Very cool. That ride was not very busy, until we got close to the cities, then it got quite busy. It was nice to do the turn around and head back to the peace and quiet. Around the area of the tunnel, we ran into a Paulding County Deputy Sheriff patrolling the trail in a smart car, marked patrol vehicle. We also ran in to him a couple hours later, on our return ride. He was very professional, and a joy to visit with for a couple of minutes. We did note security cameras on a section of the trail too. We had a wonderful time riding the trail over 2 days. I would absolutely do it again.

The trail Highlights include the tunnels, tree canopy, terrain, cotton fields, and small town experiences.
Rockmart a trip back in time with local shopping and surrounding parks.
Piedmont is a small town experience with a homecoming parade, shops where the employees called you by name, very close to the trail with VRBO or AirBnB accommodations. The town is surrounded by mountains in the foothills of the Appalachian Mts. It was a great girls trip being in such a friendly community.
Cedartown was my favorite town along the Silver Comet. The people were inviting and welcoming. We were greeted by the City Manager and Arleigh the historian at the history museum. She told us about goat man.
The Welcome Center at the depot was a good attraction for bikers to learn about the area, get directions and picnic.
The Trail of Tears has roots in Cedartown at the Great Springs Park. All within walking distance of the trail.
Cedartown is a must do attraction!

I rented an ebike in Mableton (mile marker 2, I think). They had only 1 ebike, as I guess it's a bit controversial having them on the trail. I knew I wanted to bike at least 50 miles though and I was grateful to have the pedal assist option.
It was a lovely day - not too hot. I packed water and a sandwich. There were plenty of walkers and cyclists on the path until I got to about Dallas and then I pretty much was alone for several miles. I rode at least 50 miles and it was fantastic!!! It was flat and so not difficult. There were serious cyclists at some points, passing me going an easy 20 mph.
The trail goes all the way into Alabama. I would love to do this ride some day and camp along the way. You do go through residential areas, but also beautiful open spaces. Over railway, under old rail bridge, through a tunnel....riding bikes is my favorite way to see places and this trail did not disappoint.

We stayed in Hiram and biked south to Smyrna the first day - about 40 miles round trip. The next day we rode north around 15 miles. The trail is well marked with signage including mileage, food and places of interest. In addition, there are security cameras on parts of the trail. Finally, many trailheads include rest areas. If you enjoy biking or running this is a great trail. We would definitely recommend.

Great for families and kids to explore the woods and get some exercise. Its good to go with friends and alone, especially at night

This is an excellent place to get out and ride, run, or walk. It’s paved and pretty flat. Use to be an old train track. Park over by Nickijak Elementary School in Smyrna. Shady and pretty nice path.

Since my husband and I like covered bridges and I found out you could take the trail to get to it, we were on it! But there are no signs. We were fortunate enough to run into another couple that told us were it was. So for those that would like the directions - see my photos 😊

I jog here daily. It can get crowded, but I love how it’s mostly covered by trees with occasional breaks of sunlight.

I would like to bring a small group and do a two day ride from Smyrna to Anniston,
1. Is there a place in Smyrna we can park our cars overnight?
2. Is there a shuttle that can pick us up in Anniston and bring us and our bikes back to Smyrna on the second day of our ride?

There was parking at the trailhead but we parked our car at the nearby shopping center and had no problem!

Depending on the temps outside, if it is at freezing it may be slippery due to wetness freezing over and shaded areas not drying by sunlight. Otherwise it is very pleasant and worth checking out, in my opinion!

I'm trying to find a way to the get me and my bike to the Silver Comet Trail entrance in Smyrna. As I understand it, I cannot leave my car in a trail parking lot overnight. Is there a local parking lot where I can leave my car overnight? Or is there another way to transport me and my bike to the trail entrance without my car (Uber doesn't seem to have enough cars in their Uber Pedal program to provide an always-available service)?

There is a Silver Comet connector trail along sidewalks - we stayed at Fairfield Inn Smyrna, arranged to leave car there and rode about 4 miles to trail head.

What is the address for the entrance to the 0.00 mile marker in Smyrna, I think its right off of S Cobb Drive but I cant find the exact address to get there.

e Silver Comet Trail is 61.5 miles long, and starts at the Mavell Road Trailhead in Smyrna.... not sure what the exact address is. You can also enter the trail from several other Smyrna locations. There is an entrance just off the EW Connector at Fontaine Road with parking and you can enter by crossing the road. You can also enter on corner of Fontaine and Nickajack roads. Floyd Road entrance is about mile marker 4 and has SCD Cyckes where you can rent a bike to go on the trail. There are amenities at this entrance (restrooms, more parking, fountain).

Sorry, can't help you. We haven't biked. The most we walked on the trail was approximately 15 miles in one stretch.

I’m looking to ride the whole trail... having trouble where to stay in Smyrna where I can bike to the trailhead and leave my car until I return. Plan to do the trip in 4 days. Any suggestions??

Silver Comet Trail is not laid out for long-term parking and overnight stays (no nearby hotels/motel and camping not allowed along trail). If you are planning multi-day trip, you would have to do online research for places to stay within a reasonable bike ride from the Trail. As for vehicle parking, I wouldn't have a clue where it would be safe to leave a vehicle for 4 days without it being towed by the police.
What about the folks who have walked the entire trail, especially in the remote areas?

As mentioned, the trail starts in Smyrna and continue to the Georgia/Alabama border as Silver Comet Trail for 61 miles; once there, it's connected to another trail head named Chief Ladiga trail that continue on for another 33 miles. Together that's nearly 94 total miles. If you can walk that distance, plan on spending a week on the trail. If your question is in regards to security on the trail, it's generally safe during day light hours especially on weekends due to high number of people walking, running, biking on the trail. I would bring a friend or two outside of these hours especially at dust or dawn. Hope that answers your question.
