Unfortunately there are not a lot of these old movie theaters around. Nice screen and sound system, seats don’t recline back but are very comfortable. The place attaches to a sandwich shop which is nice. Parked at Jewel. We enjoyed our midweek visit.

Great historic theater to see a movie. Comfortable chairs and yummy popcorn! You can also order beer and wine as well as a yummy sandwich from next door.

WOW! Yep, you'll be wowed when you enter the theater. After you walk halfway down the aisle, you will realize you are still half a block from the screen. You will want to go just once to view this classic great theater.

The Carlow offers one feature usually once a day but occasionally twice! It is in downtown Barrington and for years has allowed patrons to order food from the restaurant attached and it is then brought to your seat. The cost is minimal compared to the AMC’s, Century, etc.

Excellent historical old theater. Movies like they used to be. I saw The Godfather in this theater back in 1972

There is a coziness about the Catlow Theater. You don't have any previews, instead you learn about businesses in the community before the movie starts. You can order dinner, have a glass of wine while you watch the film or dine in the adjacent diner. We have been going for years and prefer it to the large theatre menu. Hats Off to the Friendly Staff.

It's so nice to be able to grab a sandwich and glass of wine to sit down with and enjoy a movie. The movies are fairly new. Parking hasn't been a problem, even though it's on the main street of downtown Barrington. Definitely recommend this as a fun experience!

Chicagoland's northwestern suburbs have very few of these classic movie houses remaining and the Catlow is among the best. Retaining a large single-screen in this rustic but elegant movie theatre gives viewers the true BIG SCREEN adventure that some of us "mature" movie goers enjoy. Catlow shows current films with an eye toward (hopefully) some of the smarter or quasi "art house" movies that tend to be appreciated by the upscale demographic of this area. Catlow works hard to earn the business (new updated sound system & screen) of today's demanding consumer. Kudo's to Catlow for recently starting craft beer and wine offerings along with good food selections (yes, you can eat in your seat if you are tidy and mindful of other patrons!) from the attached Showtime eatery) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

We go to this movie theater at least once a month--worth the 1/2 hour drive. The films are of many genres: from art films I can't see in my area to current popular films. The staff are friendly, the popcorn is great, the seats are comfortable and the owner Tim encourages voting on future films on the website and is very receptive to feedback. And you can't go wrong with the price: $7. My only complaint is the tiny women's bathroom. There is a small restaurant attached next door; Showtime Eatery offers all sorts of sandwiches, daily soups and chili, and recently wine and beer. Parking available on the street and in a backlot.

Barrington's Catlow Theatre is a hidden gem and I cannot recommend this theater highly enough. Our family has enjoyed the "movie theater" experience for years at the CATLOW that is missing from modern multi-screen multiplex movies, and certainly as an alternative to watching movies on handheld personal devises (blasphemy!!) If you consider the expense & difficulty of maintaining an older building (let alone an historic structure)--one can appreciate the hard work that the proprietors do in keeping this great entertainment option available to the citizens of our NW Suburbs. Bravo Catlow!
