I have been a member at Six Flags Great America for many years. I have to say the staff this year has shown a significant improvement. The ride operators are fun and entertaining. I highly recommend spending a day at Six Flags Great America!

A friend of mine had not been to the amusement parks in the Midwest for several years and asked if we could do our annual park trip to parks around me. We added this one to our itinerary.

As always, this park is CROWDED, even on weekdays. Of the many times I have visited here, there was only one day the crowds were low, and that was a cloudy, rainy, cool day about 15 years ago.

The rides were in good condition. Sadly, several of the spinning rides were not in operation, due to staffing issues. One of the ones closed was the Frisbee swinging ride, which is one of my favorites as well as a rare ride in the U.S.

Food offerings are typical of most parks. The food lines were not as long as other times. The food was not too bad.

Employees seemed to be friendly for the most part.

Overall, not a bad day.

We had a blast at Great America while on vacation. We went on a day when there was 50% chance of rain, so the lines were all fairly short, and there wasn't a drop of rain the entire day. I highly recommend going on X-Flight! It was the best ride there. I personally wasn't a fan of the Joker ride though, that one was just a bit too crazy for me. The park was great, and the souvenir shops also had an awesome selection to buy from. If I could change one item about the park it would be the food. It was all pretty expensive and not that great, but that's pretty standard for an amusement park.

Hurricane harbor: They charge extra for a seat at the wave pool. So your expected to stand or go in and watch your kids.

Good variety of rides / they do add ones on a regular basis too - and water park right there is great for hot days. Tickets are a good value, especially in comparison to ones like over-rated and political Disney. Could use a little more staff, food choices, but heard may be adding some name brands to parks. Have seen it a little better, cleaner, and with enviable crowds just last year / before, but I know they will get it back as these times are a little hard this summer.

More bang for your buck than Disney. Several new rides and old ones give you enough options. My kids loved it, went on Monday and walked on most of the rides we wanted. Been 20 yrs since I've been there, I got a headache on some coasters though I am getting older and maybe my brain can't handle it. Food was pricey like Disney but it was pretty decent tasting, had to ask for a straw and ketchup where we ate, not sure why they don't have this stuff out. Staff could've been a little more attentive in spots. And the meal didn't include a drink, that was $6 extra... I liked the new sports bar, ice cold beer on tap. It's nice they have some areas to fill cold water into bottles fore free, Disney only had warm tap water so all in all this was a better time and so much cheaper than Disneyworld. We're only 30 min from Wisconsin so that's a treat. The water spray mists were still running also so that's awesome on a hot day. Wish they'd get the roaring rapids back up though. You can nitpick some things but for all the rides they have, bottom line this is fun place still.

Been here many times and never had a day quite like this one. 5, yes 5 rides broke down while we were either on them or in line. That's silly. Several other rides were down as well, including the newest coaster. Most of the small attractions and small games are closed or gone. I understand some of this is not the park's fault as it is so hard to find people willing to work these days. That said, they need to make it clear that the experience has changed. The flash pass is really nowhere near as useful as it once was. Most of the flash pass entries aren't close enough to the start of the ride to make it worth the money. We typically waited 20-30 minutes from the flash pass entry point to to actually getting on the ride. They used to take you right to the front. Lots of flash pass signage is missing or incorrect as well. Yes, you can still skip the meat of a long line, it's just not worth the price anymore. Also, several rides had short lines and the pass still made us wait 30 minutes to get in. Only then would we see the line wasn't long and that people weren't even backed up to the flash pass entry point! The food is as gross and expensive as ever and we saw a large group of young men running around with police in tow. It looked as if they had been in a brawl - lots of bleeding. All in all it was just a really bad day at Great America but the rides we did go on were still fun. I have faith they will get things back in top shape eventually. For now it is best to avoid.

I joined my wife and kids recently for a day trip to Great America. She had purchased 3 annual passes for her and our two boys during the winter, which at the time included some free guest passes. When we arrived at the park our problems for the day started with the 3 season passes not scanning properly, which forced us into a guest services line that was (early in the morning) already ~45 minutes long. Once we were finally at the front of the line, the passes were confirmed to work, but to my dismay we were told that there were no free guest passes to use and I was going to be charged over $50 for a single day pass. My wife repeatedly asserted that there were guest passes included when she bought the seasons passes. Eventually, after a bunch of delay including the customer service person disappearing behind the desk for 10 minutes, a supervisor appeared. I was completely shocked and angry when she told us "that was part of the package when you bought the passes, but the terms have changed since you bought the passes and the guest passes are no longer included". She sighted some terms in the fine print for the passes that Great America reserves the right to change the terms whenever they want. So, basically their explanation is that Great America reserves the right to bait and switch you once they have your money. What an awful business practice to screw over their season pass holders like that, and when you arrive at the park expecting a fun day you're left having to decide whether to pay the extra $50+ or disappoint your entire family.

Looking around the park, it was also apparent that their budgets and staff are not adequate to operate the park. Many of the rides look to be in disrepair, and either fully closed or "half closed" (with one of two sides shut down). As an example, American Eagle (the large wooden coaster that has been there for decades) looks like it hasn't been painted in many years. It leaves you wondering what kind of deterioration is happening to the now exposed wooden structure. The coaster was also "half closed", and the wait time was drastically understated on their app.

We were able to enjoy some rides during the day, but all in all it was a disappointment. I remember the park from my childhood, and it felt like it just isn't what it used to be in so many ways. The park now seems dominated by corporate penny pinching. Last I checked Six Flags generated positive earnings for the past 12 months, so it seems shareholders and executives are taking priority, not their customers.

If you still feel the desire to buy season passes, my only suggestion would be to not pay the full amount for the passes up front, and instead pay month to month. It might be more expensive that way, but at least then you have a option if Six Flags is not holding up their end of the deal you sign up for.

We went to spend the 4th of July there for the firework show and they closed early at 8pm instead of 10pm! So after driving there just for an hour we hear on the speaker system no fireworks closing at 8. I have been coming there for 30 years or more and the park is turning to a dump! Most of the rides are closed and the landscaping is over grown and looks terrible!!!!

From my experience recently at Great America they apparently specialize in lies and deceit. Was excited about the apparent "All new DC Universe"to realize the only thing "All new" was the paint and some new signage. I mean how idiotic do you think your guests are?? The Yankee Clipper water ride is now somehow the Aquaman ride?? Why because you gave a paint job and a new name. Their was absolutely NOTHING Aquaman about it except a sign upon entrance. The food court had maybe 3 restaurants open. So many shops cloed and a bunch of rides closed as well. Is cutting the grass and a landscaping upgrade that costly? The weeds and foliage are such an eyesore youd think the park also had a Swamp Thing universe (why not right since its also a DC character?) The place is honestly just an overall dump that needs a power spraying and paint job like no other.If money is that tight just close the place.
