Free parking at the Leisure Centre which is very close to the beach and where there is a Cafe and toilets. The sight of all the figures is quite amazing and thought provoking. We walked the length of the beach at low tide so saw most of them. Each one has a number although a few tags are missing. I hadn't read about the sinking sand but didn't put my foot in it until at the end where we had to jump across a puddle, so take care!

Really striking sculptures on the beach. Nice long beach, mixture of soft pale sand and brown, wet sand more like cement as the tide comes in/out. Not sure how many statues are here now as we just walked a short distance to the sea and along the beach a while. Tide comes in fast - one minute we were next to a statue and within a couple of minutes he was up to his knees in water. Free car parking is a nice bonus.

Very unusual to see all these statues along the beach some buried at different heights. I really did enjoy having a stroll and getting up close to look at this modern art installation. We took at trip in the day but i can image they would look impressive at sunset.

I first saw Another Place when there were 100 statues stood in the sand, an army of potentially drowning men facing the incoming tide. I got goosebumps that didn't leave me. It was phenomenal, an experience that haunted you. 10 years on, there are a fraction of the sculptures left, taken away to another place (oh the irony). I felt nothing looking at the distanced figures. Why Antony Gormley compromised his initial vision I can't imagine.

Very nice statues, but I feel he's been a little over generous on his chopper if it's supposed to be modelled on him.

I've wanted to visit Another Place by Antony Gormley on Crosby beach since i saw the Angel of the North.
Fantastic modern art installation on a large scale spread over a couple of miles of beach - though could do with more information - only 1 board at the northern end!
Visited at Low Tide - can't wait to visit at different tides next time i'm Up North.
Recommended for kids and families - though watch out for tide movements and water currents.
A bit tricky to find the car parks, but well worth the effort.

The statues are located on Crosby beach and are around half a mile away from Blundellsands & Crosby station.
I happened to be attending a cricket match at Northern cricket club and at the lunch interval, decided to take the two mile walk to view the statues.
I reached the beach going past Crosby leisure centre and manage to locate two of the statues on the vast beach.
It’s probably not worth making a special journey to view this attraction but if in the vicinity, take the opportunity to have a look.
There was an ice cream van near to the leisure centre which provided refreshments.

One hundred cast iron, life-sized, male figures spread along three kilometres of the shore, stretching nearly one kilometre out to sea …. the Antony Gormley statues were placed by the sculpture to explore ”man’s relationship with Nature”.
Each statue gazes out to sea as if lost in its own thoughts, influenced perhaps by forces beyond its control. In late evenings, the statues exhibit an otherworldly stillness and silence – sadness even – that somehow resonates with the inner world of human experience, loneliness and isolation.
Submerged to varying degrees in the sea, the hulking, barnacled figures evoke an immediate and very human response – an urge to examine, to assist if necessary, perhaps even to save. They are surprisingly moving.
According to the philosopher Aristotle, “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance”. If that’s true, then Gormley has certainly captured something about the inner significance of human experience in these, his silent sentinels.

Short train ride from Liverpool - some nice locals pointed the way to the beach, which was just a short walk from the station. Interesting to see all the statues - some close in and on dry sand (at least when I first arrived!), some further out and partially submerged (some probably fully submerged as well!). I walked down the beach and then, because of the swiftly incoming tide, back along the promenade (in the US we'd call it a "boardwalk!") Do be careful on the beach - the tide comes in VERY quickly - I almost got caught and had to wade back to dry land (the beach itself all but disappears during high tide!). Good idea to check a tide table before going!

I found this place oddly moving and I was so glad I visited it. It was a lovely morning on Crosby beach and the sculptures stretch along at least a mile of beach all facing the sea. Not an easy place to describe but I loved it!

You need to look up tide times at Liverpool on the internet. Tide times vary though out the year, according to the status of the moon.

Hi i think we will be visiting southport on tues 23rd or wed 24th october and it seems that high tide is 11am and 11 30am following day trying to work out when would be best time to arrive at the beach to see the statues at their best any help would be much appreciated thank you

I visited last week and was there about 11 and the tide was along way out. In my opinion perfect for seeing the statues. Hope this helps

Hi is this attraction easy to get to frim southport and what public transport goes there in southport is this near captain smiths house - titanic - thank you

Unsure on the price, but no more that £5 for a return I would imagine. If you travel after 9:30am I think train prices are cheaper. It takes 20mins on the train from southport to Blundellsands and Crosby station. The titanic captains house is the opposite end of the beach from where I've advised to get off, if you get off at Waterloo you can see the titanic house, but it is more of a walk from the station. My advice would be to pick a nice day, get off at Crosby and stroll along the beach front in the direct of Waterloo, Google maps will help 😁

We are visiting Crosby beach 10th, 11th September .What time will it be best to see all the Gormley statues?

Check the low tide times for that date. You won’t be able to visit all the statues as you’ll be too far out to sea plus you need to consider that areas of unstable sand exist and the advancing tides too. But you can appreciate a few close to shore and the rest in long distance view.

I live here so know that when the tide is in there still is sand. It’s much better to come though when the tide is out as you get to see many more of the Iron Men. If you’ve never been here, your in for a real treat.

Coming to Liverpool next month and would love to go to Crosby Beach and see the statues, is there a service bus from Liverpool? I am rather nervous with train travel, so a bus would suit me better ~ many thanks

You can get a train from Liverpool central to Blundell sands, and its then 1 10-15 min walk to the beach
You can catch the 53 from Queens Sq bus station and get off at Mersey road @ Waterloo (5 Min walk )

Not really. There is a cafe in the leisure centre which is just off the beach and also some cafes/food places on the main road which is a little walk away. If you are driving then my suggestion would be to see the beach/sculptures and then head towards the Liverpool Dockyard. It’s a heritage area with quite a bit to see and also a good selection of places to eat. It’s about a 15 minute drive.

Parking is free on the main road Brunswick Parade or Marine Terrace near all the hotels, near the park. No need to use the car park at all.
