We used to book with Gilligan's 2-3 times a year and had wonderful experiences. Last 3 years we have been unable to book at all because of their very cumbersome reservation system. You cannot reach anyone in person by phone and once you've chosen a boat on line you must continually monitor your e-mail to even see if you've "won the lottery" and was chosen to be able to rent a boat or not. The entire process takes about 3 days of which you must watch for updates and be able to respond on their timeline. You cannot reserve your campsite until you know if you have a boat and once you are chosen to be allowed to have a boat your choice campsite is gone. The most frustrating set up I have ever dealt with. After 21 years I will no longer try to book with Gilligan's.

There are three boat rental services on Patoka Lake. The least visible is Gilligan's, but it was recommended by someone locally. Overall, we were happy with the boat and service. There are loads of paperwork to be filled out online, but then the check-in process at the dock is super fast. Don't try to call; use email only. Expect only minimal, necessary info in messages. Some things they don't tell you: using a credit card invokes a 3.5% fee. But on the positive side, you get eight gallons of gas, easily enough to cover the day. We rented a fishing pontoon with trolling motor, but the motor had broken off and no replacement was offered. The boat did not correspond to the photograph on the web site and was in fact much older, but it had all the same features (except the missing trolling motor) and worked fine, including the live well. The biggest downside is that the "anchor" was a cement block that was a lot of work to pull up (I'm not a 90-lb weakling, btw.) And despite the weight, it did not hold the boat in the wind. We found ourselves blowing into shore several times and had to react quickly. (The bottom of the lake is sandy.)

We have been renting a pontoon slide boat every summer from Gilligan's for last 10 years. Excellent service. Knowledgeable & kind staff. I highly recommend Gilligan's Boats!

We rented a Pontoon. The owner, Kerry, upgraded the craft which provided an enjoyable day on the lake for our party of six.

Great day on Crab Island! Rented both pontoon & wave runner. Great experience & very helpful staff. Helped with return of wave runner so we could stay on crab island with the pontoon boat.

The staff member was nice and the boat was clean. They provided life vests as they promised. We had fun.

I do not recommend Gilligan's Boats at Patoka Lake (near Birdseye). Although the boat was nice and the staff were nice, the owner is rude and over-charged me 4 times the amount of competitors such as the Marina for a pontoon boat. Expect him to charge around $900/day, when the others charge around $250/day.

This place is terrible! Our boat was messing up so we texted the number they gave us with little help. So we called them and the owner or who ever I spoke to was extremely rude about the whole situation. His final solution for us was he gave us 40 min to get back to the dock and never to come back to this place again! Which the boat wouldn’t even make it so they had to come tow us back in with only a 50% discount! Don’t rent a boat here!
