I reviewed Shady Creek Winery in 2015 and gave it 5 big stars. We visited recently and were so disappointed we left to go elsewhere. The problem is with the service and attitude. We walked in a saw a sign saying to be seated by hostess. There was no hostess so we wandered in and found a seat on our own. The service is now fast-food style, you go to the counter, place your order and give your table number. The process is very cold and impersonal and we felt like we were inconveniencing the server by being there. The only bright spot is that the wine is pretty good for a local winery but the service and atmosphere is just sad.

Atmosphere was great on this gorgeous fall day. However when you pay $58 for 2 glasses of wine, a Caesar salad that was 70% stale croutons and 20% large uncut butt end of romance lettuce, and a Margarita Flat bread (that we waited over an hour for, the manager checked on us twice without it, then when we go to the window and check on it told it’s in the oven, wait another 10 minutes then ask for it to go and be told that it’s being boxed up and will be out in a minute but then the manger checks on us again and we’re still waiting for it, another 5 minutes, so we left without even getting it as we were frustrated it took over 1.5 hours and still didn’t have it) it really puts a bad taste in your mouth when it was not even that busy and you’re placing your own order and have a table number.
Also, being family friendly, there is no changing table in the women’s room nor do they have high chairs for smaller children. Makes it hard being family friendly.

First off, there were nine of us in a preplanned party. We preordered 4 bottles of wine and 4 appetizers. We then proceeded to order more appetizers and bottles of wine. We also had to go to a window to order and pay. The Server lost our second order of food. When it did arrive, the Humus plate, minus the pita chips, was the size of a catsup cup from Chick Filet. The wine prices were ridiculous and the food was very overpriced for what you got. Won't be back anytime soon.

We just discovered Shady Creek last year. We were delighted to find this treasure in Michigan City. It was intimate, friendly, had a live musician playing. Lovely! We came back this year, 2022, and their expansion is complete. But now it's loud and echoey and it was hard to have a conversation with less intimate seating indoors. And it would be nicer to actually be served rather than go to the counter now, but maybe it's a staffing shortage issue. Loved their decor with the dog portraits and such, very fun. The outside looked very inviting, there is a large stage for musicians or other entertainment.

This place is beautiful. Probably my favorite place from my entire visit in Michigan City. From the music, to the nice garden, the friendly staff, It was really perfect. There is not much variety with the food but I get that it's a winery and not a restaurant... We ordered a pizza and it was delicious. The only downside is that we came with our little kids and they were acting out lol so we couldn't really enjoy as much as we could have..This is a great place for a romantic date. This is definitely not a place for little kids.

The esthetic is amazing but you literally have to serve yourself. I want to be taken care of, not take care of myself. It takes away from the whole experience. Food and staff are amazing, but having to get up and walk to a bar just to wait in line is nonsense. Why can’t you hire real wait staff?

I went there spur the moment for some lunch and some wine. We wanted to sit outside and they told us to order at the bar which we did we ordered a salad pizza 2 glasses of wine they gave us our wine brought us or pizza never brought us or salad. We have to go back to the bar and stand in line and let them know we never got our salads they brought our salads 45 min later and some water but never brought glasses for our water had to go back to the bar to order some more wine which was served in warm classes which we brought from the bar. The food was good but disappointed in the service. We both ate separately!!! Drank warm wine because of service!! Spoke to management all they said OK never even apologized!!! Hope service gets better love that they are close to our house!! Shame on young management they could of handled it differently!! Will give them a try again!! Good food and always live vino!!!

We had a reservation for the afternoon, we got there on time and was seated immediately. We had the tastings and a glass of wine. The staff was very friendly. We are looking forward to coming back when the construction is complete.

We have been frequently Shady Creek since it first opened. We love stopping by and watching the expansion as it grows. This is going to be a fabulous spot once renovation/additions are complete. Love the fireplace, leather seating areas, hightop tables and the menu. Great place to grab a glass of wine or enjoy a bottle. Looking forward to the evolution of the Shady Creek.

We had to idea the winery was under construction, but that did not stop us from going in! The back yard area to sit was ok - I'm sure once the construction is done it will be amazing! The win selection is great. BUT the food is even better. We stopped for a pre-dinner snack and were pleasantly surprised how fresh and good the food was! It's off the beaten path, but totally worth the drive. We went on a Saturday afternoon around 3:30 and it was packed. You may want to call ahead if you have a large group to make a reservation.

Hi there, we do allow children. We just ask that if you have a stroller that you do not have it in the tasting room area because it can get a little congested with people.

I wanted to come and taste a few wines and pick some up on a Sat afternoon, but I have 2 kids. Can they come and just sit quietly at the table or do you have to be 21 to even go in?

Sorry, I don't recall the rule regarding age for admittance. And I don't remember if I saw any children there. It seems to me that they might accommodate. I would check their website.
