That's a good question! Thanks for asking. David Ross and George Ade bough the land to give to Purdue for the football stadium. David Ross was a notable benefactor of Purdue University here in West Lafayette, Indiana. He left Purdue his huge estate, Ross Hill, when he died. It may be part of the parks system here. It is still in use for very special events. George Ade was also a Hoosier in this area of the Indiana. He wrote lots of plays and books. He used "homespun" humor, now considered a stereotype or "politically incorrect." He and others in Northwest Indiana were among the buddies who gathered at Ade's home in Brook, Indiana, for good times. John McCutcheon, the great cartoonist for the Chicago Tribune, was one. He was from South Raub, just south of Lafayette. Some of these friends were in Sigma Chi fraternity at Purdue. They are worthy of a book!
