Great setting for special occasions. Great wines and hard cider. Nice place to escape, listen to some music and relax. You are getting the real thing...everything is made by them. Off the grid establishment. Great place!

Located a few miles west of Cascade on Hwy 151 is one of the best places in Iowa for hard cider. Hard cider you say...it's a winery! Yes it is but due to a drought a few years ago that affected alot of their organic grapes they also started to produce hard ciders. Presently they have 7 different flavored hard ciders and offer three of these on tap, alternating each week w/ their selection. Since this is a husband & wife operation they're only opened Friday, Saturday & Sundays (closed during the winter months) and don't offer any food or music. However, Lisa & Kevin encourage folks to bring their own munchies, purchase wine or cider and sit on their veranda or inside and enjoy the scenic countryside. I've sampled their blackberry, strawberry, blueberry and pomegranate ciders all of which have the distinct flavor of the fruit that was used. My favorites are blackberry & pomegranate but my husband thought blueberry was very good as well. I haven't tried any of their wines but the people that were sampling them that day said that they were extremely good and each of them purchased several bottles. A small fee is charged to sample their wine and except for strawberry cider only the hard ciders on tap are bottled per purchase in growlers. It was a real pleasure visiting with Lisa and learning the history of the winery as well as her knowledge of each of these wines and ciders. My suggestion is to go on their website crimsonsunsetwinery@gmail.com to learn more about this hidden gem and then visit.

We have a group that takes a wine tour every fall. This year we choose Crimson Sunset Winery as a stop. We were happy with our choice as learning about "organic" wines and the work it takes was very interesting. The wines as you would expect are a few dollars more than non organic, but very tasty and delicious. The winery also made hard cider that some of our group enjoyed. The winery has planted apple trees to expand on the hard cider business.

The sampling area was very nice and there are also couches to sit on and enjoy a glass of wine or cider. Just an enjoyable stop for our whole group.

I've been to Crimson Sunset a handful of times and have had a great experience on each occasion. Spring of 2014 we even had our class reunion there. Everyone enjoyed the wine and cider, as well as the shuffleboard and fire pit. Previously, I was there with some of my family and enjoyed the musicians they had performing. At each visit, we were greeted by Kevin and Lisa with warm smiles and felt very welcome!

I can't wait to spend some more afternoons enjoying the atmosphere and wine.

Such a lovely place. The owner-Kevin-explained how he does most of the work himself (wife is busy with 2 little ones) & he is passionate about his vineyard. His wines are all estate grown & the only winery in Iowa that is certified organic. He operates off the power grid with wind & solar power. The tasting room is very modern. The outside patio overlooks a corn field & has a fire pit. How lovely to be outside on a nice summer or fall day overlooking the field while sipping a glass of wine. And the wine is quite nice. I especially liked White Velvet-a semi dry white wine with a nice finish. My husband was impressed with the frontenac red. it is quite dry, which he says is unusual for this grape. Also try the hard cider! I don't even like hard cider, but this stuff was so good we bought a bottle of "original." We will definitely return when in Iowa.

My wife and I stopped by on Sunday afternoon to see the place we had driven by on several occasions on our frequent trips to Dubuque from Cedar Rapids.

The road to access this spot sets the tone for you to relax as you wind back to the vinyard from the highway. The destination is still a work in progress (and a passion!) for the owners Kevin and Lisa.

The wines are very nice. At time some of the Iowa wines are not on my list of favorites, but these guys do a great job with their small organic process. They stay true to their word and quality not quantity pays big dividends!

We enjoyed our time, met some wonderful people with similar interests and we will be back again!
